Character Name(s):

Luke McKendrick (Xeno is LM)

Why do you want to become a Mentor?:

Like many in the community, the first person to ever stick with me was my first SEA, Casey Walton. CM, and SS13 in general, is infamous for having a very steep learning curve and Casey led me through it. Now, about 600 hours in CM later, I want to do the same thing that my first mentor did for me and help our new players through that very same curve I was led through.

What gameplay areas do you know and which areas are you strong and weak in?:

I’ll break it up best I can

General - experienced
Medical: proficient in all areas, I consider myself a very good surgeon and doctor in general, chemistry I have a good wrap on as well.
Engineering: MT is one of my favorite roles, so I could easily teach anybody the basics and even most of the more advanced stuff. My only worry here would be like a very niche thing that I never had to tackle as an engineering role.
Combat: Rifleman is my most played role, and rifleman+ (FTL) isn’t far behind. I have an incredible grip on it and teaching new players how to be a good rifleman, combat technician, corpsman, spec, SG, or SL would be very easy for me. The occasional Mhelp for something such as keybinds or the legendary “My shotgun won’t fire after shooting it” will be easy for me.

Advanced - adept
Research: Before this section would have been how I did not understand research well but now I can say I understand research adeptly. Things like contracts, botany, xeno surgeries, and making stims I could teach a new researcher fairly easily. I would also say I can respond to a solid majority of any Research Mhelps that may fall on my desk.
Req: Req is easy for me, I’ve spent enough time in it to understand it in depth.
Piloting: Basic piloting is easy, and I just spent some time in GP so I should be able to pass that knowledge on easily, there’s not an insane amount to it.
Command: roughly 75 hours command in total for me, no worries here. Teaching a new SO or XO I could do easily and I believe any and all command Mhelps, which I must admit I have no idea how common they are, I could respond to.
Intel: After spending some time in intel I understand it enough, it’s not exceptionally complicated. To say I am a master of intel would be a very large lie but I can safely say I have a solid grip on it.
Civil: Things like CC, CL, and MST I could teach easily. I doubt many people mentor help for any three of those roles but if it came up I could answer the call.
Ordnance: If it came to it I could teach them an easy fire grenade that does well on the field, but I mean I’m no LCPL OT. Shouldn’t come up much and if it does I can teach them the basics.

Xeno - mixed
My xeno hours aren’t impressive I’ll admit, but I promise I will constantly try and improve my knowledge on xeno as a whole throughout the rest of my CM career, there is always more to learn. Even then I would say I understand a good bit of xeno, it’s not super complicated. I understand most everything about xeno that I would need to know for mentor, things like pheromones, building, strains, and many other things I have down completely. A lot of the important things, such as strains, are similar for every caste so I was able to understand them quickly just by playing a variety of roles. As well as this I have been told by a few mentors that xeno Mhelps rarely pop up anyways, but I also understand that this isn’t a good excuse and that I should be ready for them anyways which I believe I am. Despite this I will try and cover the three areas of xeno I believe stand out the most.

Combat: I have always considered myself a little below average in xeno fighting, but with time that hopefully should improve. Also capturing is something I have spent a good amount of time on and I would actually consider it to be something I am decent at. It’s also important to note here keybinds and stuff are not something I ever really used, as I mostly mained marine but I understand now that xeno keybinds play a much larger role so I spent some time with them.

Support: Despite my lack of hours I do believe I have a xeno main and that would be drone. To put it simply, I like playing support a lot more than playing a combat role and I think I have gotten pretty solid with it. If there is a xeno build theory I believe I have mastered it, and saving lives with pheres and dragging is like muscle memory now. Questions about building, pheres, and pylons are something that I am able to answer.

Queen: This is a rough one right here, Queen is just too much for me right now. I would hate to bring down other people by playing queen and absolutely fumbling everything. I think queen Mhelps would be rare but just in case I squeezed in a bit of time with queen so I should be able to help with a few things.

How often are to able to play CM?:

I would say around 10-14 hours a week.

Anything else you’d like to add?:

Kind of drawing back to my first statement here but mentor really does mean a lot to me. Again, my first SEA, Casey Walton, perfectly embodied what a SEA and at that a mentor should be in my opinion, and I could not tell you if I would enjoy and appreciate CM as much as I do now if it weren’t for him being there to lead me through those new player trenches. He was a true mentor to me and I would love to be able to do the same thing he did for me to another private. On top of this, being a mentor for this community will really be a nice way to give back for all the fun that CM has given me. At this stage in the game some of you honestly feel like very good friends to me. I have put in many hours in every single marine role, excluding a couple of department heads, so that I will be ready for nearly all the questions that come my way. I’ve also spent much time helping new players while playing roles like rifleman, doctor/CMO, FTL, and even once I did my best to teach a new player as CL (got a valor note for it too which is funny). As a final note I will try my best to respond to any questions given to me in a timely manner, and I will inform everyone in the replies if I will be on leave for anytime at all.

June 15th through June 21st I will be away from home and therefore unable to play CM, I’ll try my best to keep myself updated on this post however.

Denied, I’d prefer more xeno experience and activity before and after the application seems to be trending down..
