Mentor Application - Huskymaru

Hadrianna is literally the no.1 doctor I look to dump newbie nurses who need training onto. She is nothing but kind to her students and her mentoring is easily understandable and far better than anything I could hope to do, and I say this as someone who is legitimately licensed to tutor.

+1. It is tradition that I proclaim my intent to commit arson on behalf of candidates I support in the event they are not successful in attaining their desired position.

Great answers!

I think this shows that you can assist with basic xeno questions, so I am leaving a +1!

As always, questionnaire time! (Xeno focused, as your hours are quite low for non-support castes.)

  • How do I devour and nest?

Devour:
In order to devour, the host must first be lying on the ground. You can do this by clicking on them repeatedly on disarm intent in order to shove them off their feet. The caste that you are currently playing can greatly affect how easily you can knock them down. This process is easier if you can get your fellow xeno teammates to help shove the target with you!

Then quickly grab the target by clicking on them on grab intent, then click on your own character sprite to start the devouring process. This will trigger a devouring process which will take about 2 - 3 seconds to complete (you can see the circle appear above your head to indicate that the devouring process is in effect).

While waiting for the host to be swallowed up, you can continuously shove the person by switching to your other hand and clicking on their character on disarm intent. This ensures that the target does not get back up on their feet while you are devouring them.

Then take the host back to the hive.

Nesting:
If the host has not been hugged already, stand on top of a planted egg or an egg morpher, then regurgitate the host back up by clicking on the ‘Regurgitate’ ability on the top of your screen. This will allow the host to be hugged by a facehugger, knocking them unconscious.

As a final step of the nesting process, locate the nearest wall that is built on top of hive weeds (hive weeds have more darker and veiny looking appearance compared to normal weeds). Click on your target on drag intent and bring them right next to the wall. Then, while holding onto your target in drag intent, click on the wall to start the nesting process. You will see a circle appear above your head once the nesting process starts and when this happens, make sure you stay still until the host is successfully nested to the wall.

  • Help! It says I’ve been banished! What does this mean?

Banishment occurs when the Queen deems a particular xeno to be too destructive, disobedient or a threat to her Hive (I.e: Intentionally ignoring Queen’s orders, intentionally destroying hive walls). When you are banished, you will receive a small red icon on your character sprite that can be visually seen by other xeno players to indicate that you’ve been banished. In most scenarios, banished xenos will be hunted down and killed by the hive, unless the Queen readmits you back into the Hive before you die.

  • Whats a tall/small/faketall/host?

Talls and Hosts usually refers to humans in xeno language, and the two terms are often interchangeably used.

Smalls or small hosts are used to refer to NPC humanoid creatures such as monkeys or yirens.

Faketalls or Fake hosts are used to refer to synthetics.

  • How do I use the hivemind chat?

Hivemind chat can be used by pressing ‘Y’ on your keyboard to open up a hivemand chat or by using a semicolon in front of your text speech (example: ;Hello!)

  • The Queen says to rally on her, how do I do that?

When the Queen orders you to rally, it usually means to get on her position and follow her. If you can’t see the Queen, look for a blinking arrowhead near the right side of your screen (it should be set to constantly track the Queen by default). You can track her down by heading in the direction where your tracker is pointed.

  • Help! I cant tail-sweep as a defender!

First, make sure that you do not have your ‘Toggle Crest Defence’ or ‘Fortify’ mode on, as tailsweeps only work if neither of these abilities are active. Then, make sure you are directly adjacent to your targets when you are tailsweeping, as it will only affect enemies who are right next to you!

  • I saw another ravager throw spikes, how do I do that?

I believe you are referring to the ‘Spike Shed’ ability from the Hedgehog Ravager! As a ravager, you first need to go to the Aliens tab and select ‘purchase strain’ option. Then select ‘Hedgehog’ and submit it in order to transform into the Hedgehog strain. You will notice a variety of new abilities open up for you on the top of your screen.

As a hedgehog ravager, you will be using ‘shards’ rather than plasma in order to cast your abilities. Shards generate passively over time but can also be received when taking damage. When you have at least 50 shards, you can either click on ‘Spike shed’ ability to throw spikes at your enemies or press G on your keyboard.

  • One of the other runners coats people in acid when they attack. How do I do that?

In order to coat people in acids, you must first purchase the Acider trait as a runner! Go to the Aliens tab on the top right corner of your screen, then click on ‘Purchase Strain’ option. It will open up a popup menu, where you can select the ‘Acider’ trait and then press submit. Click ‘Yes’ for the pop up to transform into an Acid Runner.

Now, all you need to do is hit your targets on harm intent, as each hit will coat them in acid!

  • Help! I’ve accidentally become a Queen! What do I do?

As a Queen, you are essentially tasked with the responsibility of leading your Hive to victory against human threat. There are various facets to being a Queen but here are some introductory guide to basic Queen abilities and tips.

First, decide on where you would like to build your hivecore if none has not been built yet. Ideally, you want to build your hivecore in a cave, where it is most defencible and far away from the landing zone to avoid being rushed by marines. Select your ‘Order construction’ ability and press your middle mouse button on the area where you want to build your hivecore. This will open up a menu. Click on ‘Hive core’ and you will see a faint image of the hive core on the ground. Click on the Hive core to finish building it up in exchange for some of your plasma.

Make sure you build 1-2 Egg morphers near the Hive core as well so that you can hug your secured captures. You can do this by using ‘order contruction’ ability again and selecting Egg morphers!

After building the Hive core and Egg morphers, you will need to go on ovi in order to generate ‘evolution points’ for your Hive, which will enable your xenos to evolve into stronger castes to defeat your enemies. To go into ovi, click on the ‘grow ovipositor’ ability near the top of your screen (The icon looks like a cocoon). Then stand completely still until you finish growing your ovipositor.

While on ovi, you will not be able to move. However, you can still observe your fellow xenos by clicking on ‘Watch Xenomorph’ ability (Icon has an eye above a xenomorph) and selecting the xeno you want to observe. You can also give that xeno the ‘Hive leader’ status while observing them by clicking on ‘Choose/Follow Hive Leaders’ ability (Icon is a star above a xenomorph). Hive leaders are granted the ability to place markers on locations, such as ‘Need weeds here!’, in order to communicate the needs of the team to other xenos. Any pheromones they emit will also be amplified as well if they are given Hive Leader status.

In order to give orders via announcements, use the ‘Word of the Queen’ ability and type out what you want to say in the following pop up. Ideally, you want to observe your xenos on ‘Watch Xenomorph’ ability or listen in on hivemind chat to gain vital information, such as hearing someone yell ‘Sadar in Engineering!’ in hivemind chat. You can relay that message with the Word of the Queen ability and tell them what you want them to do in response. i.e: “Sadar spotted at Engineering! Pull back!”

If you’d like to still build structures while on ovi, you can enter ‘Overwatch’ mode by clicking on ‘Enter Eye Form’ (icon looks like an eye, not to be confused with the tactical map icon).

Select the structure you want to build from ‘Choose Resin Structure’ ability and toggle your ‘Projected Resin’ ability on. Then click with your middle mouse button to build the selected structure. You can leave the ‘Overwatch’ mode anytime by simply clicking ‘Leave’ ability (icon looks like a door with an arrow).

If you want to join in the fighting with your fellow xenos, you can leave your ovi form by clicking on your ‘Remove eggsac’ ability and wait a few seconds. Use your ‘Screech’ ability to stun nearby enemies, which can either be used to kill or capture specific targets before the stun wears off. Alternatively, use your ‘Xeno Spit’ ability and click ‘Toggle Spit type’ to switch between ‘acid spatter’ (coats them in acid and deals burn damage to target) and ‘neurotoxin spit’ (stuns the target for a short duration, ideal for capture).

Great player, great member of the community, and an all around very nice person to talk to. The only thing I can’t personally vouch for is their xeno sided knowledge, but considering how much they’ve been playing xeno recently, I would assume they’ve picked up a fair bit of it.

Husky is someone who I’ve never had a bad experience with. Absolutely no toxicity and, somehow, even friendly. It’s almost too good to be true. They’ll fit right in in the mentor team, particularly given how they already teach new players fairly frequently whenever I see them.

If I could give a +2, I would.
Unfortunately, I cannot, as I am but one creature, so have my +1.
