Others, rarely.

Why do you want to become a Mentor?:
Honestly, I really enjoy helping people and teaching. It’s satisfying to see PVTs that I’ve helped in the past be still playing after a month as silver or gold medal riflemen, and knowing that I had a hand in that. While I understand (and help people regardless of not being one) that being a mentor is not essential to helping people, it does offer more tools and options to assist new players, which is always helpful.

What gameplay areas do you know and which areas are you strong and weak in?:
I’m rather competent in most of the standard in-game areas, ranging from simple tasks such as effective barricading and strategies for FOB construction, up to some of the more esoteric things, such as a (barely) passable understanding of the more advanced features of telecomms. I’m extremely familiar with Baycode as a baseline, and feel confident in giving advice and feedback on attachments, effective loadouts for different roles, and even more advanced things such as keeping track of marines in a command role and how to keep marines focused and on task. Ultimately, and I hate to say it because it’s a bit of a cop-out, I’m really a very knowledgeable generalist in most topics.

My one and only weakness that comes to mind is research, as I’ve not dealt with this arcane system much at all. That being said, I’m sure there are other things that simply aren’t coming to mind that I may not be the most proficient at, but at the end of the day, all players are always learning and improving, and I would never claim to be the end-all-be-all expert and authority on any and all things CM.

How often are to able to play CM?:
The simplest answer is ‘often’, but depending on work, there may be a week where I don’t play, and there may be a week where I play every day. Such is the life of an adult. Right now, this is usually during deadpop hours.

Anything else you’d like to add?:
I have a tendency to engage in a small amount of ‘LRP shenanigans’ from time to time, but explicitly only when playing as a PFC. This is something I own up to, and am actively working to curtail, but in the end, if I’m playing the TDM game, I tend to treat it like the TDM game. I do wish to emphasize that I am dialing such behavior back, and have been for some time. I would like to think that people can vouch for my ability to roleplay when playing in command/officer positions, as a CL, or as a survivor - basically, anything not a PFC. Again, I do want to point out that I am working on improving this behavior when I am a PFC, as it’s important to be the change I want to see in CM if I want it to be more RP and less TDM.

I welcome any scenario questions that the peanut gallery wishes to toss at me. Thanks for taking the time to read this and considering my application.

Exemplary player which I have seen proactively take steps in order to help newer players in all shapes and forms. If I had to choose a single mentor to add every 6 months this would be the one.

Sorry meant to get to this app sooner, busy week and all. On to the meat of this topic.

Nod is a dude who in short knows his shit. I have personal seen him in loads of roles, and he in my eyes has shown he can do pretty much every job to good vet of the CM community can or should be able to do, and also know how to RP with people and situations very well. From being a MT deployed to the FOB to help build it, to being a medic saving lives on the front, to being a rifleman spearheading the main push, Nod knows a ton. He would a great addition to the mentor team.
To speak of him able to have good RP IC and roll with the punches as they come. I can say nod is one of the few ppl in the community that makes good enjoyable reasonable RP at i have experienced first hand.
Dude is active in the community and easy to sit and have a talk with almost any time.
+1 from me.
Best of luck @nodnodnod !

I wasnt planning on posting here, but seeing as you barely got 3 comments ill say it. Ive seen you ingame so many times by now, and you clearly have a very good understanding for the mechanics of the game. its a +1 for me, you have a good attitude towards the game as well and I think that is something that should be very important for a mentor!

Probably knows more about the game than a quarter, if not half, of the current mentors. One of the most friendly people I know in CM, and just generally fun to be around.

Appreciate the positive feedback from everyone so far! Didn’t realize I was such a celebrity :sunglasses:

Why this isn’t accepted yet, I don’t know. Nod is a great player in my interactions I’ve had with both Kira Fairbanks and Nadezhda, knowledgeable about the game, and knows what they’re doing. +1

Round 17094.

Hi, I played Sam Johnson that round. I don’t remember seeing you before. Nice to meet you. I’m fairly new to the server, I started playing regularly very recently compared to yourself. I’m definitely not on your level of robustness I’m sure - I see your CM discord history goes back to 2016. I didn’t see you beside me at all. If that happened, then I was either lagging or I didn’t see you. Perhaps had a health analyzer screen open healing someone. What I do remember is that you were a fair few tiles away from me getting dragged by a xeno. I was running after you trying to shake you up, and then the other marine in our small group who was trying to do the same thing ran into one of those acid traps that knocks you down, and we never got to you. I felt horrible as you got dragged off. That being said, I was playing in good faith in a very rough round for the marines. You yourself noted later that I got the ‘most revives’ stat at the end. I feel like your deadchat and discord feedback would be better received by a new player if you phrased it like "Hi Sam, next time try to shake people up if possible when they’re being tackled (tackling is the thumping noise - click on them with empty hand and help intent if that happens ^-^) rather than something like
Uaefqntitled
I hope you will take this pixel roleplaying game a little less seriously, and consider trying to lift people up rather than bringing them down. As noted in this forum, “As a member of the Mentor Team you represent the server to our community.” - I hope you will represent it with a little more kindness in the future and assume good faith on the part of your fellow players. Best of luck to you with the application.

I have known Nod for about a year and a half now, and he’s been a great guy. He plays often and helps out where he can. +1

Nod is a pretty chill guy and a great person to ask questions, they’d make a good fit for a mentor and I’m willing to back them.

Hi, Mike. I’m glad you’ve taken the opportunity to register and find my mentor application to provide feedback. I was under the impression at the time that, as a medic player, you had the basic gameplay knowledge of shaking and tackling, but that’s on me for making an assumption.

If I colored your impression of the server or myself negatively, I’m truly sorry. I was malding hard at the time, as I had just deployed and was instantly captured as a specialist. I don’t excuse my malding, nor will I deny that I mald on the rare occasion like almost any member of the community.

For future reference, since you mention it and I can’t give advice ingame now (you never answered at all and thus I couldn’t gauge what you knew or not):

-Yes, the thud sound is a tackle. If you see someone get tackled right next to you and being dragged, it’s generally a good idea to shake them or drag them to break the xeno’s grip.
-You should generally not be performing lifesaving care on someone when you are in exposed positions with active combat two tiles away. As is taught in real life, it applies to CM too: eliminate the threat, then begin treatment.

There are a lot of things you’ll pick up over time, and you’ll find a lot of nuance to CM. I wish you luck in playing medic in the future, and I encourage you to reach out and ask questions. Congratulations on outperforming the five other medics and getting the round end accolade with two revives, by the way! Not often newer players manage to get a fun fact.

I know 2 revives is a laughably small amount for a ‘most revives’ stat, hehe. I only mentioned it to illustrate that I wasn’t completely useless - cause I did kinda feel useless for a bit after what you said. When I saw your discord post that I "somehow got the MVP for 2 revives’ I actually felt better because I didn’t check the stat, and I was amused that I managed to get it with only 2.

Sorry I was a bit unclear before. I did know about shaking and tackling, however it didn’t come into play as I didn’t see you beside me, let alone for 5 full seconds as you described. I mentioned taking a teaching approach because we hadn’t seen each other before and I think it would be nicer to try to help someone in that situation for next time rather than flame them.

Personally, when I get tackle-chainstunned, I don’t look for other people to blame for not bailing me out, I just try to work on my positioning and strategies for next time. But also I keep RPing - I enjoy staying in body after getting nested and trying to talk to anyone else who is nested nearby, or talk on comms if they’re up - it can be pretty fun to RP like that if you haven’t yet. A round with fun RP is everything for me - my side getting a win is nice, and I aim for it of course, but I really consider it an RP game first rather than being overly concerned about ‘winning’ or the fate of my character. Xenos deserve to have fun too, so I’m glad that they get to enjoy the cap when they get me. I also find it cool that two ghosts get to reenter the game for the cost of just me getting bursted - as getting perma’d isn’t a big deal to me. There is always IRL stuff to do, other games, ghost roles, new rounds, etc. Anyways, thanks for the reply, and I hope you take a different approach if this kind of situation happens again.

NOD is open to provide information when folks ask.

NODs guidance, and perseverance, has helped me to be the gamer i am today.
