Character Name(s):

Andy ‘Mutton’ Marcotte

Why do you want to become a Mentor?:

Have been pondering if I should try and obtain mentorship due to the fact CM13 is seeing a lot of new players. And today I decided to help, mainly due to the lack in actual SEAs joining the round, but that’s besides the point. I believe I can help greatly in mechanics and tidbits that not everyone knows.

I simply want to help.

What gameplay areas do you know and which areas are you strong and weak in?:

I am:

Most experienced: Command (I am a WLed CO)
Quite Experienced: Medical, Engineering, OT funny stuff
Fairly Experienced: All Auxiliary Combat Support roles (IO, DP, DCC)
and finally I am the weakest in is Requisitions. I know everything, excluding some parts of BM, about Requisitions.

How often are to able to play CM?:

More or less everyday, though my actual playing hours are random. Just whenever I feel playing the game really. Typically 3 rounds a day at minimum (roughly 4-6 hours give or take)

A screenshot or transcript of your human and xeno playtimes:

Anything else you’d like to add?:

I play whenever I feel like it, more fun for me this way. Either case, I will have fun teaching the new lads.

Second link for my playtimes broke somehow, fixed it though.

Hours look good, as does the range and spectrum of experience from Queen to a full hundred hours as Weapons Specialist as well as the intelligence and medical roles. As for your experience as CO, I haven’t had a bad round with Andy as CO as far as I’m aware and personally I haven’t witnessed any poor, LRP, or toxic behavior from you. If any other mentors want to come and ask questions or give their testimonies I would encourage them to but otherwise I’m willing to give this app a +1

Thanks for the +1, and to any other mentors who wish to ask a question about my knowledge of CM13 I am ready to answer to prove my know how.

On the topic of xenomorph hours, I am a marine main. I find marine gameplay a lot better in terms of RP and the such so that explains why I have comparability less hours in xeno than marine. That being said, I know all the castes and their abilities I will very much be able to help a xenomorph player the same or similar to a marine player.

I’d say play a little more xeno to balance it out with your human hours; I don’t know you super well, but I’ve seen you around enough to know you could handle this.

Here’s a couple questions, pretty basic.

“Hi, this is my first time playing an engineering role; how do I load the OB and fire??”

“I pressed Z to prime my grenade and then pressed R but it wouldn’t throw it and I blew up, what’d I do wrong?”

“What weapons can I carry as an MP on blue alert?”

“Hey, I accidentally clicked myself with my shotgun because I was trying to bandage myself and forgot to switch hands, can I be revived?”

“I’m playing defender and used an ability that made me lay down, I can’t move now, what’s happening?”

“Where’s the HPR kit in marine prep? Was it removed from the game?”

“I’m playing drone and the resin nest isn’t in my build menu?? How do I nest someone?”

“Hi, this is my first doctor round, is there somewhere I can read on how to do all the surgeries?”

I thank you for the questions you have, I will assume these are meant to be done in an IC way so I will account for this as best I can.

“Hi, this is my first time playing an engineering role; how do I load the OB and fire??”

"First you go to the western side of the ship (Fore side, lower of the ship down the ladders), then when you are in the OB room you will see many items and equipment. To start loading the OB you have to first check what warheads you have and check the console right next to the OB to see how much fuel the types of warheads need (Each round it will be different for how much fuel they will need, keep this in mind and always double check). Then drag yourself onto the powerloader, grab a warhead and move towards the OB cannon, hop out of the loader when right next to the cannon, interact with the console, press unload tray, Hop back in loader, load the warhead and the required amount of solid fuel, hop out of loader, interact with cannon console, Load tray, Chamber OB, Press it once more to confirm, and Presto the OB cannon is loaded with the warhead. All finished here. If you need additional help, let me know and I can walk you though it. " (Would be much more condensed if it was in an mhelp but yeah)

“I pressed Z to prime my grenade and then pressed R but it wouldn’t throw it and I blew up, what’d I do wrong?”

“You see, when you press Z on a nade, it automatically sets your character to throw. Pressing R to make em throw it will just turn this off. Next time just press Z and click on a tile a few meters away from you and it should work. If you need additional help, let me know and I can walk you though it.”

“What weapons can I carry as an MP on blue alert?”

“Taken from the wiki, SOP for blue alert states: All crew are authorized pistols. Military Police may carry any lethal weapons to subdue non-human threats. Military Police may use non-lethal riot gear to subdue Marines during a Mutiny or large gatherings of insubordinate personnel. Flashbangs are considered a Riot tool. If you need additional help, let me know and I can walk you though it.”

“Hey, I accidentally clicked myself with my shotgun because I was trying to bandage myself and forgot to switch hands, can I be revived?”

“Mentors can’t aheal, nor will I attempt to find your body should you tell me where it is. but I will help you should I stubble across your body as would anyone else do. Any case, I suggest placing your weapon away when doing any healing incase you accidentally switch over to your firearm or explosive. If you need additional help, let me know and I can walk you though it.”

“I’m playing defender and used an ability that made me lay down, I can’t move now, what’s happening?”

“Defender has an ability called fortify, it makes them have a higher resistance/armor value allowing them to tank alot of bullets before needing to retreat or falling down into crit. As a trade off it makes you immobile. Luckily there is a strain (Under xenomorph → Strains → Steel Crest), with minor concessions and ability augmentations, allows you to move while fortified. (here would be a link to the defender on wiki). If you need additional help, let me know and I can walk you though it.”

“Where’s the HPR kit in marine prep? Was it removed from the game?”

“They moved it to Requisitions I believe. (or removed completely should this statement be outdated due to morrow wanting it gone) either case they should still be in the game, though the weapon’s existence is being heavily contested on whether it should stay or not.”

“I’m playing drone and the resin nest isn’t in my build menu?? How do I nest someone?”

“The devs changed how nesting is done, now you need to be on HIVE WEEDS and with a RESIN COVERED or COMPLETELY RESIN wall to nest someone. Simply drag or click on the wall while you have them grabbed on the ground. If you need additional help, let me know and I can walk you though it.”

“Hi, this is my first doctor round, is there somewhere I can read on how to do all the surgeries?”

“Hello, There is in fact a wiki where everything to doctor to engineering is listed, even Whitelisted roles where you have to place an application is listed there! (here would be the link to the surgeries wiki) If you need additional help, let me know and I can walk you though it.”

“Hey, I accidentally clicked myself with my shotgun because I was trying to bandage myself and forgot to switch hands, can I be revived?”

–but I will help you should I stubble across your body as would anyone else do–

I probably seem really nit-picky saying this, but you’d be surprised: saying something akin to this might just lead to the person replying and telling you where their body is. Generally speaking, I’d just refer them to adminhelp (Admin tab → Adminhelp verb), which you’ll find yourself having to do every now and again because mentorhelps that should be adminhelps do tend to pop up here and there amongst newer players.

“I’m playing defender and used an ability that made me lay down, I can’t move now, what’s happening?”

“Defender has an ability called fortify, it makes them have a higher resistance/armor value allowing them to tank alot of bullets before needing to retreat or falling down into crit. (here would be a link to the defender on wiki). If you need additional help, let me know and I can walk you though it.”

Make sure to let them know that they can use the ability a second time to unfortify, too!

Other than my nit-picks, decent enough answers, I’d say.

Thanks for the +1.

but yeah, I was on the edge for the shotgun question but it is what it is.

As for the defender, yeah I just forgot to mention its togglable.

I thank your support.

knowledgeable about command and everything that goes with it, pleasant to interact with, and usually helpful to most new marines from what I have seen and experienced. your knowledge as CO is valuable to newer command players who don’t know how to handle operations or OW.

Been a good hot minute since anyone commented. And that is why I am thankful you did so.

Thank you for the comments and the +1

Will have to -1 this application. You were recently heavily warned as CO for marine law issues. In addition, you were dishonest in your moderator application causing it to be denied.

I do have a thing to talk about in the moderator application, I would have talked about it but it was closed before I could respond.

Either case, Yes I didn’t mention the past with me being removed as staff. The reason was for improper handling of a damage modifier for the xenos, was a simple box with no instructions and I wasn’t told what it would’ve done should a value changed, and after I set a higher value to ‘spice up the round’ I accidentally had the queen killed as it wasn’t the proper setting (Later I obviously learnt the lesson to not fuck with something unless told what it did and how to do it). I set it lower than normal which I didn’t know at time of editing, But regardless, I didn’t handle the following ahelp + DMs about the situation properly, and not really holding my end of professionalism and the like which was the main killer. It was an accident but I treated it like the player was in the wrong, They weren’t.

As for the reason why I never discussed this, it was simply never brought up… No one asked. And I hoped it wouldn’t rear its ugly head as its shameful for me. Suppose everyone likes to show something shameful to someone, to parade it about as if it wasn’t a dark part in a mostly spotless record.

And for here, I don’t think it should even be considered as mentor has limited abilities as staff and mentor are very different positions and the only thing I could fuck up here is being unprofessional, which I have improved on since my removal from staff at TGMC.

For the CO ML issue thing, I spoke with councilors and the like, they said that it was a lapse in judgement (For which I agree), but on the other hand they said in the end it wasnt a massive issue but still have to place a heavy warning for punishment regardless. For the parts I did handle for that appeal, I handled pretty well.

Just a question, Does a mistake have to hover over my head? Suppose it shows the person I am, but that was, more or less 8 months ago, and I have time to mature more during that time.

But here’s a final question, what would prove that I will not do this again? I ask, as I have not yet found any answer to this question.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t highly hesitant due to your past. If you believe you’ve improved and obviously you have a good bit of investment in the TGMC community why did you not reapply for staff, or apply for mentor there? If it’s because you believe you would be denied why do you believe I should I approve you? Finally, if you plan to just apply for Moderator again why should I accept you as a Mentor when you’d rather be a Moderator?

Also I’m confused why you chose to say “No one asked.”

One of the questions is “Do you have previous experience in game or community moderation?”
Your response was: “Yes, long time ago unfortunately. Roughly 4? years since my last admin position. A lot longer for out of community moderation for a different community and game.”

The report that lead to you being removed from TGMC staff was concluded November 12th last year and their staff roster lists you removed as of the 13th. This looks to me like you were obfuscating it, if you’ve been working to improve I’d imagine you’d want to parade that fact that you’ve had a negative experience and improved.

So I’m going to be honest this is a hard application denied, but I’ll leave it open for a day or so to allow you to address my points and perhaps if you attempt apply for either a Moderator or Mentor position again you can point back here.

Right, time to address the points in your closing mark. Though it is been a hot minute since this application has been messaged on.

About applying for moderator AND mentor at the same time: I was told I should apply for both since the head moderator was apparently faster/quicker with replies and processing applications. And because, I would have thought, that applying for multiple staff positions wasnt a bad idea like with WLs. Suppose this not the case then…

About the reapplying for staff/mentor on TGMC, I have tried. I am completely blocked from even ATTEMPTING for mentor/staff positions until I have prove I learnt from my mistakes and can be trusted. On this there is no requirement, Things I gotta do, etc. Just “whenever the Senior Admin” says so. To end this comment, I am not staff/mentor for lack of trying, I am not staff because I am COMPLETELY blocked until the senior admin I talked to thinks I am trust worthy once again, of which I don’t know when it will be until they believe I can be trusted again.

On the topic about “No one asked” is mainly because I forgot and I have a life outside of video games, life threw several nasty curveballs IRL during that time too, and remembering about the time I got removed from a staff team isn’t that pressing in my opinion, especially since a family member almost had a heart attack…

“The report that lead to you being removed from TGMC staff was concluded November 12th last year and their staff roster lists you removed as of the 13th. This looks to me like you were obfuscating it, if you’ve been working to improve I’d imagine you’d want to parade that fact that you’ve had a negative experience and improved.” - As mentioned above, I just completely forgot about it. Regardless if you believe me or not, I whole heartedly forgot about the whole thing and wasnt shouting my improvements from the top of a building.

On the note of improvement, I have worked on accepting stuff and accepting accountability for actions I have taken; Evidence, is of this is with my current actions within my CO WL as with the more recent reports of my actions and having a lapse in judgement during an appeal whilst during a very stressful round where everyone wanted to talk to me at once. But, whether I have improved is not in my hands but in the eye of the beholder’s.

Regardless, I have failed myself in 9/10 of cases and this is something I am improving on. Though, people do not seem to believe me.
