Awesome idea
really cool idea but I disagree with the idea of marines getting a combat synth, those things are REALLY overpowered if they’re willing to chase down T3s with their SMG (especially if they focus on frags instead of supporting marines).
CM Campaign edition is real!!!
Anyways what kind of buffs would xenos get on their strongholds / Capital.
this looks awesome, but one faction might get rolled, maybe the gold stronghold planets buffs shouldn’t be able to be deployed on other gold stronghold planets so that one side doesn’t get rolled
We’re doing this. I’ll DM you.
For xenos how about they get a predalien for one of the strongholds.
I thought it was more just a ploy by Steel to remove hijack gameplay from the rounds he plays xd
I wasn’t sure about the idea before but now I’m fully on board somebody go get auth for this immediately.
Re: concerns about the game entering a stalemate. If that is a risk we can simply set it up that we can skip certain planets to force a confrontation, so I am not concerned about a endless stalemate.
but I disagree with the idea of marines getting a combat synth
@unknown920 that’s a fair assessment, however my thought process is that the Marines will only ever get 1 round with a Combat Synthetic, in all other rounds they don’t get it.
If its found the Synth is doing too well we could compensate the xenos during the round. No one likes a 1 sided stomp.
Anyways what kind of buffs would xenos get on their strongholds / Capital.
@Yellows In xeno territory my thoughts are that we would offer to the Queen to make some Xenomorphs transform straight into Hivelords at round start to speed up hive construction, I’d also likely remove the survivors on xeno territory (I’d make sure to emphasize to not spawn as one) and reward extra Larva to xenos, this is so the xenos can 100% focus on building up the planet.
Edit: On the xeno homeworld we may even offer to add an extra Tier 3 slot to the xenos. We’ll see how it goes but it would be nice to ensure the final battle is a epic once, especially since a homeworld fight is going to be the last battle of the campaign no matter what.
maybe the gold stronghold planets buffs shouldn’t be able to be deployed on other gold stronghold planets so that one side doesn’t get rolled
@JediKing112 Possible but we won’t know till we play it. The stronghold planets are all also the very large maps so this may somewhat dillute the boons.
EDIT: I should emphasize that this first campaign will likely go through teething issues, since its a first of its kind thing, and I’ve not done events before. However, since the campaign is held over multiple days due to its length there’s plenty chance to adjust things if its found some things are not balanced well.
If it turns out, for example, 1 faction gaining a certain asset is simply too powerful, we can simply adjust the asset to be less powerful or change it outright.
This sounds very cool. Maybe if you wanted to prevent a stalemate you could implement a max number of lives for each side over the entire campaign that you keep track of at the end of each round (e.g. Marines can have 1000 players go perma, xenos have some kind of equivalent). Then when one runs out you force it to the final stronghold round.
love this idea, maybe if one side starts to stomp the pred metacord can arrive to balance out this new dynamic conflict
Also USCM’s stronghold should be WO, with the announcements and whatnot referencing the campaign and the Almayer instead of the dust raiders, maybe the Almayer crew needed to deploy there for some reason and there’s some natural disaster preventing them from being evacuated. A last, large deployment of personnel that command can’t in good conscious leave to their deaths before leaving the Neroid Sector.
If you went with this route maybe have an after campaign event where CLF try to recover a planet in the sector from the bugs now that the UA has left.
pred metacord can arrive to balance out
Outside of making Predators some kind of environmental hazard both sides need to deal with, I don’t know if it’d be good to use Predators. I don’t think it’d be a good feeling if a faction won or lost a planet just cause the Predators swayed the outcome.
Also USCM’s stronghold should be WO
That would make more thematic sense, but I’m not certain how it would work since I’ve not tested it. It might need a lot of admin intervention to make it work.
I can imagine just transplanting all the Marines to Whisky Outpost and forcing the xenos to make a hive to the south, but the entire map is designed around endless xenos throwing their lives at the defences. Which is not that fun.
Taking the final fight to the Almayer, while it will also need some admin intervention, I think might be more interesting since we have never actually had a “distress call” map on the Almayer. We have Hijack but not a straight up fight on the Almayer between the two factions at their peak strength.
We’ll see
I’m currently getting obliterated by midterms, so I might not be able to get this cooking with you until after that, but let’s get a design doc going ^-^
I could totally see this being a successful and long-term project. The one concern I have is the competitive nature of it. Some players are already hype fixated on winning, and this would surely exacerbate that. My biggest concern is that some of those players might take to griefing their own ‘team’ in order to get their meta-faction to win the round. Not strong enough reasons to not take this idea and run with it, but it’s a concern nonetheless.
Hell yeah , this could be a fun way to enjoy a game. Kinda like planetside right?
The concerns of people taking it too far are fair, and I do expect people to get a bit more “excited” since there is now a meta-game stake in your faction winning. I’d say if anyone is found is acting in bad faith, should be removed from participating, but this already happens.
@Exolt I think a strength of my suggestion is that it adds a meta-aspect to the game. Now, you are not just fighting to win the round but you are fighting for a greater strategic game.
Of course this event is far more mechanical focused and not roleplay focused, which is a possible issue since the game mode will likely feel a bit more gamey than a normal game, but that is something we have to live with.
I’ve mocked up a better “strategic” map.
I’ve made a google doc of my campaign event idea, I’ve refined my thoughts on it. I’ve opened it to comments as well.
I feel like New Varadero should not be a 1st line human planet, doesn’t New Varadero get like 90% xeno winrate? I feel like it is more suited for xeno home world.
I don’t know the win rates. If this is true the maps can be swapped.
Will Preds still be in game, if so will items that were taken from them still stuck in the next round.
Also, will there be random hostile spawns of CLF or UPP on the map to spice things up a bit?
