The xeno caste I main is base crusher (slashes are good).
Despite me being ancient Crusher, I still struggle to land slashes consistently. Even if there is a marine right next to me that I click, I’ll be swiping at the tiles instead, and the slash won’t register.
Before you ask, I have Directional Assist and Combat Click Override ON.
Yet I still find myself whiffing a slash of a marine right next to me. I also whiff when I try to tailstab a survivor.
Xenos like OWL are excellent at landing slashes, how do they do it? And how can I be better at spriteclicking?
Important question. Does your mouse sensitivity need to be high, medium, or low? I found low to be the most helpful, but even then I still miss slashes.
I’m by no means the best assistant in this matter, but when I messed around on a private server a bit, I found there was a particular rhythm between moving/clicking that would result in more attacks on a sprite. When I was on rhythm, I would hit on every click. when I wasn’t, I could click 6 times and I wouldn’t slash at all.
Some people say you should spam click but when I tried to click on that rhythm it would always slash more often.
e: this only goes for basic attacks w/directional attacks, spriteclicks abilities seemed to work regardless.

First thing is don’t be too over critical of yourself, no one hits their clicks all the time. For every round you have where you hit like 6 awesome attacks back to back you’ll have many moments where you fumble in spectacular fashion and wonder “how is this possible”. This game is old as shit and when you throw in human error it just becomes something you have to accept. Easier said than done (I myself am guilty of this)

Practice and timing, and a bit of luck (you can’t always predict how someone will move). It’s why blocking is such a powerful thing to do, if you stop someone from moving it stands to reason that clicking them till horizontal becomes much easier.

I used to think like this in games all the time, fiddling with sensitivity all the time to find one that works. But you can’t just take a sensitivity that works for someone else and apply it to yourself. Everyone is different is the short answer. All you need is to choose one that feels ok for you, and not mess with it. Muscle memory is a very powerful thing.
Common advice for shooters is make sure mouse acceleration is off. This will mess up your muscle memory. If you’re using Windows and haven’t already done this, you can do this by unticking “enhance pointer precision” in mouse settings.
best way to do it is to time you slashes when you are next to someone, dont chase someone like going right behind them as you just push them, wait for slashing until you and your target moves, if you click to slash in the time after someone mives a tile you are way more likely to hit em, so that rhytm the other guy was talking about, and sprite clicking is best practiced as marine, keep tracking a xeno while shooting and sprite clicking, being good at one helps with the other a lot
dont use directional assist, just spriteclick you will get better with time, it only took me like 150 hours to hit most of my spriteclick, also aim for legs they will be slower and easier to click.
I am not at all an expert on melee combat, I actually kind of suck at it, but an engine mechanic important to consider with regards to input drops and “timing” is your FPS limit. I have heard a lot of different things about it, but increasing your FPS limit may help with the issues you’re having with getting in the “rhythm”.
I’d ask individual players what they have theirs set to and whether it seems to help them. When I first swapped from 30 to 60 it was like night and day in regards to not dropping inputs–I only had to click things once instead of thrice most of the time, unless it was a map with bad performance in which case all of this post is thrown out the window.
i haven’t had any difficultise with 30 fps and i perform better on it then higher fps levels. But movement is easier to see on higher fps for sure and less jittery.
It feels like for me tho, the higher the fps, the more weird bugs show up and inconsistencies.
