New Command Role: 1st Sergeant

New role

Company SNCO

What will they do?

The company 1SG is an advisor/support role for CIC. The primary function of this role is too support the operations of whatever command is trying to do. A list of things they can be expected to do is~

  • Advise and support the duty officer, acting commander or commander of an operation.
  • Teach newer SOs or XOs how to function and do their job with confidence. (Basically be able to curve a poor command team)
  • Handle ML issues such as appeals and may be deputized by a Commanding Officer
  • Serve as a CIC RP role for the CL and survs
  • A role allowed to be deployed by the permission of the acting commander for groundside cohesiveness.
  • Handle shipside issues. Like CMB arresting req or a chem team to investigate research for a chemical that research lost.

Why add a tutor role when we have a SEA?

The goal of 1SG is to be a command pet. While he has no real power over what goes on in command, he has the knowledge that can save a game. Backed up by knowledge and experience. Much like real life, if an officer doesn’t listen to their SNCO, then they are doomed for failure.

SEA is also a whitelisted role intended for players who are newer to the game or that specific role as a whole. In contrast, the 1SG is purely meant to handle command members, the SOP, COC and ML as experts in those fields specifically. While a SEA could fill in the gap for this role, I don’t think a mentor wants to help command an operation.

To conclude

In summary, the 1SG role is a role intended to train and support an otherwise overwhelmed command team or a newer one. Allowing XOs and COs the ability to focus on the operation and only handling matters that require their attention such as making greeno’s or diplomacy in a small TWE event. This role should help make the game more soulful to the command structure of a company and help CIC become less strainous to newer XOs and support duty officers.

Timelock
this is just what I think, however

I think they should have a high timelock in command roles such as SO, XO, CO and any role in the MP section.

So for example, a time lock I was thinking of was
100 Hours in Command Roles (SO, XO, CO)
25 Hours in MP roles (MP, MW, CMP)

also, IMO, they should get an office, the large and Bold SL voice and an unique revolver that doesn’t have any different stats then the M44. Nor different ammo. Just as fluff

Isn’t the role currently taken by the SEA? Like it almost seems 1 to 1, except they are expected to tutor new people. Like, why add second SEA, and make SEA a tutor exclusive role.

you just explained what SEAs are in more words

Good idea, but might turn out to be bloat and a useless role, possibly benefiting for more powertripping people, since in our CoC, 1st Sergeant is the 4th highest ranking enlisted rank (including the unavailable SMCMC, or simply known as E9C), the SEA can perfectly assist command personnel, as I’ve done before.

Its a good idea as I’ve said before, but it might have bad effects on the playerbase and people who’ll use this role to no-good

essentially bloat, as we have the SEA. nah.

This would be the SEA equivalent of MP cadet.

Yeah, this is literally just SEA but can deploy and be deputized.

I have gone entire rounds with no new players to teach and its just purely sitting in CIC doing stuff.

Yeah. We’ve already had SEAs effectively do this role. I’m pretty sure I remember @CoreyTori going “While you (the XO) may be higher in rank, I outrank you in experience. Watch and learn, I’ll negotiate with them (greenos & reddies).” ~ 3 seconds before walking forwards and immediately being hugged in Research in Round #22832, upon which everyone was immediately blown up and set on fire. Shame it was never recorded though.

This is basically the kind of roleplay you’d expect a 1stSG to do, so uh. Yeah, the niche is already filled.

Damn shame.

Burnout, just do this as CO.

Balto and Wulfe personally taught me CIC basics and would basically Vod review with me what I did right or wrong at round end when I XOed for them. To be specific, Balto talked to me about how to approach LV-624 as it was just me and him in CIC. I outlined a plan about doing three bases instead of just the one. One at Nexus, one at Hydro, and one at Engineering that would be a QRT. This was back when we had nuke. So one squad was going to basically just be IO guards. He suggested that Hydro was too important to lose, so we should instead of having the team at Engineering, we have them start from Hydro Road and work back. This of course being back before Boiler was OP, and it was easier to turn Hydro into a Bulwark that held for an hour or more. We got nuke eventually from the Xeno bleedout and IOs not dying 4 minutes into the round. Also, while doing the plan, one of the SLs said he wouldn’t guard the IOs or listen to a “Woman’s Plan” and Balto screamed at them in a really funny, huffy, puffy way, “I do not allow SEXISM in my platoon! You will do as the XO ordered, or I will make you myself.” Something to that effect while clad in the old White Generalissimo CO outfit.

Anyway, I did the same somewhat when I was CO, or at least tried to. I would usually at roundstart, if I didn’t have an idea already, would ask the XO if they would like first lead, then I would judge their plan and provide advice. I’d also tell people ICly to go for a higher commission if they had talent or listened or did something better than me (Booker, Nessie, You, Murphy, etc).

Anyway, I remember both COs fondly for doing this for me, and doing it in a HRP way. I recommend just doing that, and advising other COs to do it.

This is SEA+, its bloat. We do get command asking us to help teach a new SO every now and then. Mentors like @CoreyTori and I for one love to help command and all crew when we can. I can say this from personal experience.

I somewhat feel im beating a dead hourse by repeating what others have said but this just seems like SEA.

My take which others seem to of not mentioned and perhaps will disagree with, is part of being a good XO is taking a moment to instruct new SO’s.

Even the most intense operation has a few moments downtime every now and again unless you are just making announcements for the sake of making announcements.

Also, ASO is often free.
