Nice Discussion about Lessers/huggers

So in general Hugger are basically free and I understand there is hive mind, but could it potentially be considered metagaming to see OT claymores and constantly suicide into them? In Example: I witnessed multiple ghosts just becoming lesser and hugger to go run into claymores, even ones that where hidden under gear that you couldn’t normally see. I don’t mean a normal “oh a claymore let me go run into it” I mean spawned took a tunnel literally pathed straight into the claymore frontline while infront of a runner levels of bee line. I get the general hey hivemind excuse, but the levels of beeline where kinda sus to say the least. This is a discussion and I totally get everyone has there side but this could easily be a form of metagame kinda like how sometimes you get the guy who is ghosted and “miraculously” finds the guy hiding in a locker kind of thing.

also one more thing to add is does the hive really want you to go sacrifice yourself like this constantly , just doesn’t seem lore reasoning friendly to constantly sacrifice yourself just to find and explode claymores where there is only backline presence.

lets have a discussion about this and see what people have to say.

Is it metagaming or no?

Edit: Ya the context for the discussion is that the queen is on ovi in the hive and frontline is in caves still. The lessers are going all the way to FoB to set the claymores off right after spawning.

Now for case where YOU or YOU SEE other xenos die i think its fine. other wise Metagaming.

But frankly the issue is there is no good way to disarm the mines other then huggers and lessers. Most OT claymores are HE+INC. the HE is not hard to deal with as you can just slash from behind, issue is the flames.

Ehh… Lore wise the hive is not at all against Sacrifices… the real question if the xenos would SEE mines as some thing worth going after. If its not host or threat Xenos tend to not give a fuck in the lore.

If you placed mines in the middle of nowhere hoping for a runner to hit it and lessers instead spawn to disarm em, it is metagaming. If it is in front of the fob, it would be hard to tell if a lesser wanted to poke the fob to see if bravo is awake and found the mine, or saw mines getting set up and wanted to trigger them. After the first mines are triggered the hive knows though. So fob mine triggers are just kinda scummy.

Frontline though? yea that’s in the lesser’s job description. Do what you can to support your older sisters, including taking out threats that could take them out later. Going around and striking wounded is way more scummier than spending 2-3 minutes per mine, assuming you make it through bullet hell to em.

Also be aware that the text might seem expressive and negative but in my head it did not come off that way at first. Generally this is a discussion on certain action like lessers spawning just to run at claymores around fob where the front is not.

a lesser drone beelined to me over 10 times it was considered an IC issue so i dont think so

thats just metagaming, preferably get a clip and open a ticket about it

Your text is fine for a discussion. My wording is where I draw my lines, although it does sound all about rules. I thought about it for a bit: let me draw something imaginable to where I see lessers at.

Imagine the queen/queen’s eye is a player playing an RTS game like command and conquer. There is a fog of war but marine cadelines and last positions are grayed out in explored areas. Fog of war is cleared around hive and around all xenos. The lessers are dumb AI: they dont move unless the queen player controls them.

My thoughts on the matter are if the queen could reasonably select and send the lessers for an objective while playing this RTS then it is fine. If the queen has units near the front that see the mines, she should be able to select and send the lessers at the mines. She can send them to fob too, but it’s in the fog of war so I dont expect much from it. Maybe after repeated attempts though. If there was a scout or IO or sniper in the backlines, they are in the fog of war so how did you go to their location? If it was random exploring or building up an area then attacked that’s fine though.

It may suck because of the nature of mines, but I am not seeing wave tactics as metagaming.

I’d like to note it is 100% cannon for xenos to throw themselves suicidally into something so later the other sisters can attack after the suicide wave has completed its mission, see the turret scene from Aliens for reference.

Oh I know but thats when there is a full on hive presence. I edited the post to add this tidbit. I play a bunch of other alien games like dark descent, and fireteam which have that swarming mechanic.

could it potentially be considered metagaming to see OT claymores and constantly suicide into them?

Well pretty much what happens, and has been openly admitted to in dchat by players I’ve seen doing it - as in expressly “I am going to suicide into all the mines as a lesser”, is you look for the claymores as a ghost, find them, then spawn in and suicide into them to get rid of it.

This is metagaming, but it’s difficult/impossible to enforce or prove (“Oh I didn’t find it as a ghost the xenos are a hivemind and so I just know :^”), so any punishment is rare to non-existent.

There was a PR that had a decent solution for it - lessers and huggers don’t trigger claymores. That seemed all around fine to me, but AFAIK it got rejected.

I would like if that PR got approved for OT claymores, or maybe they allow you to do a setting like with the blast protection you can set for grenades, just make it an alt click for the iff sensor to target any entity larger than a child or something. Idk.
