Enforcement Action Taken

Description of the incident:

“Noted for Rule 10, Escalation | Another player was disarming them, leading to an MP accidentally getting flamed. The other player and MP both started disarming them and threw a knife at them, so they started shooting. Please follow escalation”

I’d like that removed. I believe I followed escalation.

As CE, I had an MT, Kilgore, who was going corpo. There was some animosity there due to that, there had been talk from CIC on punishing him for lawful reasons, and talk from him that he would kill the major, so escalation from an RP POV was there albeit it hasn’t got much to do with this note. I see him when I climb the ladder, pull out my incinerator to look tough. He disarms me, which causes the incinerator to flame the MP the opposite way I am facing. I had no clue that incinerator disarm worked like that, and was flabbergasted, taking me several seconds to get my mind together to put out the fire.

  1. MT Kilgore begins disarming me. MT Larry, from off-screen, sees the MP die and rightfully assumes I just intentionally murdered them, and begins punching me. It’s a 2v1 so when push comes to shove, literally, I will be stunlocked and beaten up. I have no intention on escalating, and instead try to de-escalate by running.

  2. For running away, I end up getting stabbed. That’s escalation on his part(Fists to knife), and again it’s a 2v1- I can be stunlocked and stabbed to death. I have no knife to respond with.

  3. I run again, but draw my pistol. Notably, I do NOT immediately fire- rather, I wait until Kilgore draws his weapon, then I fire.

As per Injury & Risk to Life, a 1v1 fist fight would not be potentially fatal, and even a 1v1 knife vs fist fight would not necessarily be so. A 2v1 situation is different- I’d point to Dragon Ball Z, and the Goku, Piccolo, & Raditz fight. Alone Goku & Piccolo posed no threat to Raditz, but together they became a fatal threat. I don’t think anyone is in the wrong here, admin or player. Kilgore was only disarming, Larry punched and stabbed because he fully assumed I just murdered a guy.

Yeah I was Kilgore, I was angry that the Major threatened me with a desertion charge for signing a contract with the CL, which quite frankly made zero sense to me. I threatened to harm the CO which was a bluff and I never intended to do anything about it but this doesn’t really have anything to do with the note.

The reason I was pushing you was because of a prior incident with you that resulted in my death, I did not intend to make you flame the MP and that was an accident on my part, and I apologize. Once the MP was flamed larry ran over and started punching you and I was pushing you, Larry then threw a knife at you and you drew a weapon so i drew mine. I only fired once you popped a shot off.

From my point of view, a lethal weapon was thrown at Hunter so he responded by pulling out his firearm, you can see in the video he doesn’t have a knife to defend himself so he used his gun. From my point of view as the person who was shot by hunter, his response seemed reasonable to the situation at the time, and I have no malice against him.

This seems like a IC issue that stemmed from a misunderstanding.

Honestly, at this point I just wanna rescind this. I doubt it’s going to get overturned, and it’s really not a big deal. I’m usually pretty good about escalating properly. At worst, I’m going to continue to disagree with this, but it might just be me fundamentally feeling differently about escalation server wise.

So please, just take this down.

Hey there!

Since the video makes the situation clear, I won’t go into too much detail.

After reviewing and discussing the incident, we decided that the Chief Engineer did not violate the escalation rules outlined in Rule 10, so I’ll be removing the note. On the other hand, Larry “FAT” Westland clearly committed an escalation violation by throwing a knife at the Chief Engineer. As the Chief Engineer never physically engaged with him, the knife throw was unjustified, therefore I will be issuing a note per Rule 10 to Larry “FAT” Westland’s player. I will also talk to Vending Machine about this note.
