Orbital Signal Flare

Orbital Signal Flares are used by CIC to signal commands to all groundside marines. These commands must be assigned by CIC then briefed to the marines before starting the op.

A console in CIC will be used to assign a command to each flare, up to 50 characters.

For example, CIC might use the dropdown [v] menu to select the Yellow flare and assign the command “RETREAT TO FOB.”

Launching this flare will make an icon :fireworks: appear in the form of a ball burning in yellow light on the top right corner of the marines HUD, and play a firework sound effect. Hovering the mouse over this icon will make a tooltip that says:

Command is signalling you!

“RETREAT TO FOB”

This also appears in the chat box.

Clicking on the icon, or typing the verb “View Flares” will pop up a UI to view all commands currently assigned to each flare.

When CIC modifies these commands, the UI will update for marines that have a comms signal, otherwise it will stay outdated. They will also be notified in chat.

:light_bulb: This idea was inspired by WW2 tactics as a backup for undeniable long range communication when radios failed.

So for simplicity, a queen’s marker for marines. Not to say it is exact, but something so we are all on the same page. The idea for a marine marker has been thrown around for a while. Not sure what happened to them, or if something is partially coded for them already.

edit: grammer.

Maybe utilize the canon control room north or south of CIC for reload, like loading a pack of flare (like 5 each) and calibrate once every 15-30 mins. Give MT more reason to exist.

this would go so hard if command announcemnts didnt already exist

Knowing marines illiteracy rate, this would be better for marines as there’s a real shining light guiding their way not arbitrary “marines, queen at comms” with 2 comms tower in 2 side of the map and a building known as comms next to engi bay on LV-624.

That is a great idea.

Simple.

We kill Command Announcements and rework how CIC communicates with the field
