OT consumed into research

So before i forget this idea again for the fourth time, ive been tryin to think of ways to keep OT in a form instead of just gettin rid of it like quite a few people suggest.

and the one idea i keep goin back to is research consumin OT and bein rebranded as RnD, this would allow OT to work more efficiently in producing explosives and flamables in a safer and more time efficient manner, and also free req from having to constantly order refill tanks for there 12 reagent canisters when that one cracked OT gets on, and the second is that it would give research more options during downtime in between IO deliveries of viles and chem sheets and corpse deliveries, another thing that would fit better with the RnD is the development of better marine gear, such as gas masks that provide better protection from boilers (and nerve gases that the science boys make) or gear that provides better protection.

Back in 2019 making big booms was actually the Researcher work. Particularly the good old Kaga was famous for them.

This got split off because it kinda makes little sense IC-wise, but the gameplay reasons are there, because the currently role is like “build the current OP shit before deployement, then cryo”.

i mean… OTs and lab lads are kind of friends as it its, i will quite often feed the OTs shit ton of chems. have you ever seen a OT and Lab sweat shop i swear one round i made 60+ MAXCAP M15 do to the fact the lab just keep feeding me chems. The bottle neck i was hitting that round was mats and printing time.

OT workshop and research should be next to each other. They’re encouraged to cooperate so why are they on different floors smh

I started working on it because I wanted OT and research to be merged as one department, but it was shot down.

OT is in a good spot mapping wise since it’s to allow interaction with marines, easy to walk up and ask for a nade etc.

Maybe giving them a pipeline to research like they have to req except reversed so rsr can send them chems would help. Or some console to type chem orders and amounts into that’d then get sent to rsr somehow.

This will be a great QQL the biggist issue with working with the OT is getting shit down to them, what many of sweat shoppers do is take one of our chem storages and bring it down to the OT so they may hack it and take the chems as needed. having a chem storage baked into the OT workshop will be a great QQL.

this is substantially better than how it is currently, it’s like trivially more distance (we’re talking 3 more steps) to go to the ladder instead of the current spot and bam ur there for the benefit of immense QOL

I agree, I think it’s very cool looking, I moved morgue to where OT was so it’s even easier for people just to move corpses across.

Sadly, some people were against it because “it’s just above medbay and it’s dangerous” but I find this to be a bit silly because you could just imagine there’s some extra armored floor or something.

Ah yes, because OT and chem storage being next to outer hull is not dangerous at all. Explosive stuff being stored as far as possible from the outer hulls, or in some external “disposable” place (kind of like toxin explosive test site) makes much more sense.
