pointblank buckshot: A thread

I made this thread to discuss an age old topic: are buck PBs balanced, do you often use them or find yourself hit by them?

and more importantly for our less robust/newer brothers, how exactly do you buckshot PB, how does melee/melee attachments affect it, how much damage/how many PBs should you expect to need to kill any given caste of xeno?

and most important: how does one/two handing effect how PBs work? do any attachments like angled grips matter?

if you miss by 1 tile with your click when the xeno is right infront of you, you miss. You have to click on target even though its right infront of you. Absolutely shit mechanic.

you say that, but hitting it once or twice on a xeno basicly confirms your kill of them (unless its a rav or crusher, but even ravs are susceptible to it).

what is buckshot

I for one don’t get PBs off that much but i do play runner… and i got to say PB buck misses all the time its fucking wild. i am willing to say its at lest 5% time to even fucking 10% it miss some what.

pb buck doesnt miss people fail to click your sprite
pb’s are fucking great I love them. I record every single plab on a runner and I can post some clips
sadly buckshot PB’s have been nerfed repeatedly due to double shotgun being a thing(hasn’t been a thing for the past 2 years) and now buckshot is absolutely a ghost of what it used to be
its pretty much become a t1/t2 stopper that’s also a ok burst of damage I guess. completely useless against any t3 that’s not a young xx though since it has only 5 AP

one handing/attachments do not matter outside the recoil compensator which will completely remove recoil from a 1 handed PB(no screenshake)

buckshot has a maximum range of 3 tiles( will disappear after) and at 3 tiles it’s already inaccurate as fuck, you used to be able to get reliable LRB(Long Range Buckshot)'s at 3 tiles range with an angled grip and a extended barrel, but since morrow gave extended barrel wield delay and nerfed the angled grip that build is no longer worth it.

mind that buckshot has a main projectile(the one that stuns) and additional buckshots(the one that deal some damage)

buckshot is not very good as a main weapon. use it as a backup with a rifle.

If you sprite-click a xenomorph in point-blank range, you will deal ~260 damage to 0 armour xenos, or ~190 to 20 armour xenos.

Whereas firing a shot at point-blank, but not sprite clicking (so either missing your sprite click or clicking on a tile past the enemy) will deal between 60 to 260 damage to a 0 armour xeno, and around 45 to 140 damage for a 20 armour xeno.

Its also possible that the buckshot that stuns a xeno can miss the target if you don’t sprite click.

So, basically, any issues you’ve ever had regarding buckshot damage reliability or stuns can be traced back to missing a sprite click or firing past the xeno.

I think PB is very balanced and really interesting mechanic to play with and against. That being said I kinda hate LRB, because it lets you circumvent the main requirement of being adjacent.

I fucking hate pb as runner but then again the caste exists literally just to cap lone noobs for free

The entire marine force is held together by two things. Medics and buckshot.
Nobody cares how much pulse rifle bullets you need to kill a xeno, everybody cares how many PBs it takes.
That is why I hate buckshot. Game would be much, much more interesting if buckshot was restricted ammo for a restricted gun, so that the game can finally be balanced around other things.

At the very least around 50% of xeno issues with marines comes from buckshot (despite it being only around 13% of total ammo used by marines).
Shotgun juggling, marines being strong close quarters where xenos should shine and such.
Devs have to assume every single marine carries buckshot shotgun, so every single other loadout suffers.

juggle shotguns and say chung

Changelog, any Human carrying more than 1 primary weapon will incur a stacking 20% slowdown on movement speed per primary weapon.

Coming in 2025!

Honestly yeah. It dosn’t make sense that John Marine is just carrying like 3 different primaries (Shotty, M41A, Flamer), and would make taking a sidearm more attractive as it would cover the downsides of your primary. Like a flamer having an 88 or M4A3 instead of an M41A as an example.

Edit: Maybe make an exception for certain specs. Like Pyro and Sadar having it built into their armour that they can have two “Primaries”.

So it should be more of an antique type of thing, thats more restrictive like the Mk1 then? Because the only reason that hicks had it, was that its an heirloom.

Lets be careful of using the movie as a reference since in that its heavily implied the Shotgun is a non-standard issue weapon that he only carried as a personal weapon.

it’s become canon the USCM use this shotgun along with a pulse rifle, if you played Aliens Fireteam elite or any AVP game then you’d know that marines can carry a pistol, shotgun and pulse rifle.
