Possibility of returning custom cosmetics for twitch subs, maybe passing a certain goal of months?

Title. In the ooooldun days we had donations on the server proper through which some people have unique donor armors and packs. A few of these people are still around, some have been banned, others just left. This was a pretty different climate back then, so I can see why readding it back today and having a lot of new people running around with this could be less than ideal from a lore/theme perspective. Figured I’d throw this out though since I was always upset that I just missed being able to donate for a cosmetic.

This makes donations for profit / twitch subs for profit, ie mickey mouse angry :stuck_out_tongue:

and giving subs custom OOC colors isn’t? I doubt they would draw a distinction

Unique donor armors are LRP as hell. Oh yeah, Solid Snake, HECU marine and Master Chief all running around in MRP™ server that has a problem with adding combat power loaders that are canon even to the game CM is supposedly so heavily based upon.

I don’t know, I’m quite fond of Fortnite

I think the best way to: “2 birds, 1 stone” is to add Fortnite skins as Donor cosmetics to CM13.

Hi, Duke!
I don’t really know why I decided to write five hundred words off of the top of my head (with some slight help from Wikipedia, as ever!) on this topic, but here goes - I made it collapsible so it doesn’t clog up the entirety of this thread, happy reading!

Incredibly long tangent about PUBG, Fortnite and Live Service games.

Fortnite is a ‘Battle Royale’ style game (A genre of games vaguely inspired by a mix of DayZ and a film of the same name. The genre first saw success with 'PlayerUnknowns BattleGrounds, or PUBG.), where players have to fight on a large map, which slowly decreases in size over time, usually with some sort of passable barrier that does damage if you are caught within it. The barrier moves slowly at first, then becomes quicker and does more damage with each passing ‘circle’, quickly encompassing the entire map.

The original gameplay of PUBG was relatively similar to the DayZ, as with most battleroyals, though the matches are heavily compacted into the span of fourty minutes, where you would have to gather equipment (of various levels) from various areas - Military areas having the best loot. Where the gameplay really differs from DayZ is with the afformentioned passable barrier that shrinks the playable area over time, causing players to be forced into a smaller, and smaller space, increasing the likelyhood of interactions. The fight continues until only one person (or squad) is left standing.
Most battle royal games support servers of up to a hundred players, allowing you to queue up alone, in a duo, in a trio, or even in a squad of four.

A notable aspect of the genre is how they often monetize their games, unlike most other games, they can’t release DLCs, and the majority of the games are free to play; The majority of these games make their money through an item shop, which requires credits. (most easily earn-able by purchasing them with real money, though ‘Battle passes’ exist - Not enough time in the day to go over those, sadly.). The items bought in the item shop are purely cosmetic ‘skins’ (A term referring to textures that change the appearance of something, most commonly your character, however there are weapon, vehicle and even parachute skins.) These ‘skins’ provide no tactical advantage whatsoever. While the ‘stock’ of the item shop cycles every day or so, causing ‘skins’ to be pretty much exclusive, until they appear again in the shop. Usually, licensed ‘skins’ stay around for longer, and don’t return.

Fortnite is rather notably for partnering with all sorts of media franchise, though their partnerships are not exclusive to media companies; A few notable partnerships include: from Aliens (and AvP), John Wick, Fallout, Marvel, Star Wars and even the Tesla.

When someone compares a game (or, in our case, CM-SS13) to Fortnite, they are probably implying that unrealistic armour will degrade the experience, causing it to be a cluster-fuck of nonsensical and clashing armours and uniforms.

Because I had to look at it, now you all have to;

Oh, theres also building.. thats like the entire gimmick of Fortnite… How did I forget that!
Oh, also, when I say ‘Fortnite’, I’m actually referring to ‘Fortnite: Battle Royale’, which is the battle royale spin-off of the original ‘Fortnite’, a fort-based third-person survival tower-defense shooter game released in 2017!

Wikipedia also states that PlayerUnknowns first made a mod for either Arma 2, or the DayZ mod for Arma 2, called DayZ: Battle Royale. ArmA 2 is a bit before my time, so I can’t vouch for either one.

In less words; Fortnite: Battle Royale is a third person last-man-standing shooter. Its… interesting.

We aren’t getting subscriber skins or donator skins, current donator skins never gonna become normal items either (steelpoint armor is an exception). We have a rather strict policy about monetary gain, same with cosmetics in general. We aren’t interested in hammering nails into our own coffin by adding LRP attires that people can pay for.
