Post who your CM character is based on/inspired by

Current and only character inspired by the man, the myth, the legend the cocaine mercenary of the congo.

There is nothing on this guy at all except for rumors, apparently his first or last name was Walasenko yet i can find nothing to back this up. Story goes that he was a vet of some country, joined with 5 commando as a merc when they were dicking around in the congo, and died in combat.

The second I saw this dude I was enthralled, he ran around an active warzone with a durag, eyepatch, and no shirt was ever seen on his back at any point.

To carry on his legacy I almost always never wear armor into combat and keep a headband on at all times (to the anger of a great many SOs and Admins)

Documentary he is seen in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Fm464VmtPc

My SO character (Orion Blackburn) is based off of a mix of Captain America from generation kill, Gorman from Aliens and Ciaphas Cain from 40k. Generally incompetent officer straight outta OCS who only gets through via blind luck.

Based mine off this one guy that advertised his channel on OOC chat about some ‘Joe Nation’, so I inspired my character off of it. Wanted to name him Joe ‘Joe’ Joeson but adminman said no :patrice:

Enough said. I don’t know why I and many others are so fond of Adrian Shephard from Half-Life Opposing Force. No dialog in game, a small diary about events of bootcamp and animations in game of petting spore launcher.

And I think “Cabal” is a cool name, decent MK character and my favourite AI, just above SHODAN.

PvE has much more fleshed out character, CM version is just a snarky dude trying to be funny.

Not really a visual inspiration, but the character I’ve been playing as CMP, & Warden for the past moth has a surname taken from the main hero of an old russian novel: “Oblomov”.

Considering the context of the book and it’s character, playing as CMP with his surname is a bit ironic. Although, if you observe my gameplay closely, you can still notice how I skimp out on ton of stuff, seemly giving NJPs left and right so as not to bother with brigging people.

I did want to get the appearance to resemble the book’s Oblomov more, but even more fucking ironicly, I was too lazy for that. Besides, due to the nature of a book character, it’s difficult to nail down his looks, especially with all the book covers portaying him a bit different each time.

Welcome to the suck

Some of mine are based on stereotypes, like my MP who is a very stereotypical “save the trees maaaahn” hippy, some are based on parts of pop culture, like my CMO based on J.S steiner from bioshock and the various shady doctors in many movies.

My main characters, that i play most often? Part of what makes them easy to play is underneath certain character quirks and pop culture influences they do have a little part of me, as a real person in them. My CL character is definitely based on my initial passion for my work, and feeling of skill being replaced by the corporate man my position requires nowadays. He is the personification of every upper management member iv had to deal with, “corporate” in general, and my own corporatision. Plus a little bond villian and burke, heh.

I named my CM static after one of my exes who was a Half-German, Half-Spanish Burlesque dancer and Chemical Engineer who lived in Costa Rica for two years.

We can all be grateful that there is not an actual human being alive who served as inspiration for Gretta. The original character was born back when me and my friends used to get shitfaced and fuck around on Garry’s Mod. Gunther Swahili was designed to have a name that technically met the “RP standards” but absolutely pissed off the racist chuds in Nazi RP. I ported it to SS13 and made Gretta as a second character to run Science/Medical/Service while Gunther did sec and engineering. Turns out I didn’t like Sec and Engineering that much. Her RP personality sorta developed in CM as a I grew into the community, starting off as a shy vegetarian medic and eventually growing into a salty asshole.

Annette was conceived entirely to try and spark arguments in command comms. She was a Staff Officer with the last name of Habsburg who was incredibly vitriolic whenever anyone made an even remotely negative comment about her family history. I gradually lost interest in the bit with the XO grindset and after some feedback and my own decisions dropped it altogether when I applied for CO.

Licorne exists in part because naming a vat-grown super soldier “unicorn” is funny to me and part of the whole point of the character is to act a “straightman” to CM’s shenanigans while refusing to actually do anything to stop it. Pointing out how ridiculous the game culture is and being a confused observer beholden to professionalism is often incredibly entertaining. I would recommend it.

My character name is David Daboza. I first gave my mob the name of Dimitri Novikov, but I really sucked at the game and didn’t feel like I was worthy of such a badass name. So I changed it to Daboza, a goofy misspelling of a anglicized polish name in my family tree. It was based off of Private Wiezbazki, the marine in aliens who you never remember, and who dies almost immediately, which summed up my skill at the game pretty well imo. I figured as I’d eventually pick a cooler name once I got better at the game.

Years later, my mob’s name is still David Daboza. :person_shrugging:

Are you a hitman player, by any chance?

I didn’t base Keaton off this guy but he is unintentionally the best fitting appearance, and I am so sad I didn’t use this as his headshot when I still played him

One round i was playing as Lou, and at the time i didn’t really have any definitive look for his appearance, during that round i eventually decided that, as i was playing an MT i believe and doing crime stuff i may as well base his appearance on travis bickle (who’s hinted to be a former FORECON/MACV-SOG Marine) from Taxi Driver and it stuck.

That’s about the most inspiration i took for lou besides the times i quoted hudson from aliens back when i started playing.

“You see what I mean? It’s plump, it’s juicy, it’s three inches thick. Now, look at this sorry, miserable, squashed thing. Can anybody tell me what’s wrong with this picture?”

You should torment some poor MST with that quote. With a submachinegun in hand, of course.

No. Novikov is the heroic Soviet tank commander from the “Life and Fate” novel. Played the first 2 hitman games, but I never got around to the modern series. Might check it out. It any better than the first 2 games?

I am surprised to not see a single answer of “The mirror” or “Myself”, I am sure that’s pretty common

My character, Mary Strauss, was ported from TGMC where my driving force was to act like a silly goofy (honestly super basic) femstatic and to have fun actually roleplaying in a mostly NRP environment. I suppose for inspiration there, the closest analogue would be Metal Slug’s Fio, who’s pretty happy-go-lucky until the scary shit goes down, when she starts freaking out.

That all changed when I got handpicked at the founding of what would become the most recent and successful meta squad, Rabbit Squad. It was an absolute blast and I found my niche as a right-hand woman in command, being designated Acting Squad Leader with the “real” Squad Leader giving me orders to echo loud and proud.

When I ported Mary, she lost a bit, and gained a lot. Her hair’s a few shades darker, I never quite picked up on calling people “mister” or “miss” unless I’m a civilian role (has any marine worth their salt ever been that prim, proper, or naive?). Generally, I conformed a lot to fit the setting, and have taken inspiration a bit from characters like early Resident Evil’s Jill Valentine in terms of at temperament, trying to keep cooler (hardly succeeding) and certainly when playing IO.

It’s difficult to pinpoint anything I’ve directly taken inspiration from aside from “vibes,” really— but I love any excuse to tell the story. Good thread, good posts, game actually rules? Love you all.
