Recently people were talking about how much of an impact new/young queens can have on rounds, in the span it takes them to actually learn the role. Someone queening for the first time will usually die immediately and lead to a full stomp and kind of just ruin the round for everyone. This isn’t to say you shouldn’t play queen if you’re new, in fact dying is a necessary step to actually learning the role. It’s inevitable. Unfortunately the side effect of collateral damage on an entire round is also inevitable. Or is it?
What if young queens, either someone who evolves into one without having the timelock unlocked (usually out of dire necessity), or just someone who isn’t at say elder empress or whatever number of hours, were given a “Princess” status instead? As a pampered princess, you would basically just be the exact same as queen, but with the caveat of a respawn - if you die, you respawn immediately fully mature.
It gives new players a second chance, more opportunity to learn the role in the span of one round, and a second chance for the round overall to go on a bit longer. I don’t think either xenos or marines enjoy kitting up for 30 mins just for round to end at 42 mins. This might also make queen a less intimidating role overall and encourage more new people to try it without fear of having the entire server cope, mald and seethe at them because they haven’t learned to play the role yet.
I like the concept but I think it raises the issue that some hard-core sweaty queen may try and takeover the young queens role, and start telling them “how it’s suppose to be and how you have to do” instead of letting a young queen figure it out while playing. It can also deprive possible new strategies and ideas, when all young queens are expected of behaving like the prime empress princesses.
Hive should be supporting the new queen rather than flaming and cussing them out. I mean who wouldn’t wanna win but we all gotta start somewhere to get good at something.
Also the young queens can always ask for suggestions and stuff in hivemind and im sure people gonna suggest strategies, tips and etc.
i don’t know if im understanding this right, but my suggestion had in mind that the same young queen would get to respawn. If they die, nobody else gets to go queen, the same new player gets it again without the maturity timer. It’s basically like giving 2 lives to a new player to counterbalance them being bald. I mostly thought of this cause people were saying they wished for a xeno role that is the equivalent of what SO is to prepare people for XO. But we can’t really have 2 queens at the same time, so this is kind of the closest thing I could think of
And no, youre absolutely right people shouldn’t be flaming new queens, and most of the time they don’t. People are pretty good/understanding about that most of the time. But the game runs on salt, and I still think most players have a perceived fear of being antagonized for trying a new role and being bad at it, which stops them from trying altogether. This would just reduce the negative round impact on everyone while new players learned the role, and maybe encourage more people to stick it out.
Yes, they can ask for help and suggestions. If I see a new queen, I’ll offer to help, and even if I spend half an hour coaching them, it might give them like +/- an extra 10 mins of survivability on average (except that first time queen on shivas I taught and they actually gigaclutched it was fucking amazing). But yeah most of the danger in queen lies in getting off ovi, and surviving combat queen will ONLY come with a shitload of dying and experience. This idea is kind of to help smooth that transition along.
The Queen role can singlehandedly have the most round impact on a game, a bald queen will break the game for a long time until they get good, and being bald is a necessity before you can get good at the role. This just helps minimize the round impact on everyone else while someone embarks from baldness to prime baldness on their queen main arc
this is kind of why I was thinking of a tertiary or like a unique time limited role/xenomorph for the “Immature Queen” to have some semblance of security. I like it, I think it needs more work. However New Queens absolutely need all the support they can get.
instead of giving them a free respawn, spam their chat with “GO HEAL” when they are at half health or less and “DONT PUSH” when screech is off C/D or there are X number of marines in sight that arent hit by screech, and you will clamp down on the worst queen death impacts
Why are you booing me? You know I am right. Honor is on the line good sir. This affront to my honor will not stand., Do you prefer pistols or swords. Choose your second and be ready for a duel at dawn.
