Queen Banishment, or how to keep the hive disciplined.

First of all - greetings to everyone reading this particular thread.
I am not writing this in order to dispute any received note or punishments (even though the reason for this thread is directly related to that). In fact - this post will only exist so I can understand the general opinion of the public and, maybe - get some staff to show their point of view. I have no intention to actually argue about the ruling itself either, so this post does not qualify as a staff report.
Not so long ago (literally within last couple hours, in fact) - I got warned while playing queen for this specific situation: I banished a player who kept writing dumb disinformation/distracting people at least 3 times within the xeno speak chat. This was done without a warning, which could be important enough for it to be mentioned. After banishing them - I immediately told not to do kill them, but one of xenomorphs did it anyways. As the result - I got a formal punishment, while the player who commited the murder did not.
This ends my small introduction. So - topics for the discussion are as follows:

  1. What you, my fellow Queen players - use banishment for, and in which situations you utilize it?
  2. It was mentioned by the staff that banishment is only used when you want a specific xenormoph killed. If that’s the case - why, in your opinion - does the ability to reintroduce someone back into the hive exist.
  3. Should only Queen players be responsible for deaths of xenomorphs during banishment.
  4. What is considered, per rule 2 related to Queen and banishment, a “joke”, which banishment cannot be used for.
Thank you very much for all potential responses.

when someone is disobeying you or being LRP or creepy or a variety of things and you don’t want to ahelp or you want to remind them to comply e.g you say retreat and they don’t so you banish someone as an example

if you banish someone you should expect them to be killed it actively drains their hp and kills them
readmitting is what you do if you accidentally banish the wrong person or they start listening to you and yes it is kind of your fault if they die due to your banish and it isn’t a good reason

you basically already are considering it drains a % of their hp every second

it’s not that difficult to just tell someone to knock it off rather than immediately banishing them

you have the power to banish that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use your words instead of coming off like a dick and removing someone from the round the first time they do something or without warning

the rules regarding banishment are open ended intentionally because it’s by nature removing someone from the round depending on how many caps there are and in general if you are making even a modicum of effort to use it in a good faith way you won’t get in trouble for it

I wish there was a softer tool that queens had. Most of my queen rounds go like this:

I plan a hold and build it up, everyone is following the plan or sleeping in hive.

marines land, wipe at the designated location

its 00:30 minutes into the round, and I don’t want to FOB siege, so I announce as such.

Maybe one or two xenos listen, 80% just keep sieging and screaming about how they dont have weeds.

I dont want to banish the Rav that killed 10 people but him charging in with tier ones against turrets and whatnot is getting everyone but him killed.

I repeat this order, maybe disable slashing of hosts to further discourage this. Some backliner fighting an IO is gunned down helplessly.

And at this point I just resign myself to helping with the siege.

As queen very often I’m locked into watching my best xenos refuse to listen. My options are politely asking them and murdering them. And the worst part is, if I just hands off do nothing they’ll evacuate with 90% of their force and we get wiped on hijack.

I think the queen can control the pace of the game a lot, and as the queen I dont like to just walk over marines before an hour has gone by, and have REALLY tried words to get this to happen

if that ravager doesn’t have the mental capacity to listen to you when you tell them via queen announcements to fall back, then they are already far, far too gone

i wish marines had explosive collars i could detonate as CO or some shit

Speaking as a person who plays a lot of Queen / Drone roles, the Ravager in question tends to be a Prime / Ancient player who thinks because they’ve played more hours than you they know better, regardless of the fact that the game is ever changing and just because they can walk into the open and secure kills, does not mean everyone with them can also do so. And even then, getting kills is not important; gaining and securing ground is, due to the nature of how defibs work.

Its why xenos lose siege so much; you cannot secure any caps or permanent kills on marines since you cannot secure any ground (and if you do you won the game since marines evac), and all their supplies are centralized in one area, so they can just keep shooting till you make 1 mistake and then its over.

Litterally a BE button to kill xeno’s that are doing what you don’t want them to do.

Dont think about it too much, every prime queen is bound to get job baned, its a rule, only ones that dont either dont talk or dont use banish

I find banish nearly useless or unwarranted most of the time, due to most players actually responding to verbal warnings and commands. I myself have been banished only but a few times, and one time even has gotten a cool round out of it due to admin intervention(Banished due to disobeying one order four minutes into the game, queen refused to readmit so I became forsaken), so I dont see it used often. The very few times I had to banish xenos they fell in line very quickly, but one time an admin PMed me telling me, and I quote, “You cannot banish xenomorphs from the hive due to not obeying your orders”.
From that moment on I just dont banish xenos at all, if things get really bad I just turn off pheromones and hope the marines find their target, cause I dont want to flip a coin every time on whenever I get bwoinked or not.

I operate on a three strike system, you’ll get 2 warnings for the following and on the third strike, if I feel that you have made errors in good faith or simply lacking in skill there will be some lenience to allow for the simple fact you are just human and that’s fine.

As a Queen, I make it a ritual to dissociate from the game, not completely, but I try to place myself into a position of acceptance with what happens. Life is transient, xenos will die, people will ignore commands, stupid things will happen. As long as you think about the bigger picture, that this is a single game in a wider list of games that you will be playing, it will make it a more tolerable experience.

That said, the punishments are simple. I’m not going to shit talk people, I’m going to tell them what they’re doing that’s wrong and to change it, that’ll be the first warning. If they persist or talk shit back and argue, that’s second strike. If they are pushed to prove their personal inadequacy as a person by giving me some lip after the fact they will be banished.

A xeno who will not listen, disrupts, or breaks rules of civility to the point they can be reported is not a “plus”, they are a detriment. The banishment system is not a system that is there for one round. The effect of being banished is a psychological one that goes beyond the current round and gives messages to players for future rounds. You are doing FUTURE queens a favour by enforcing this system.

Assuming that these players are not simply griefers, they want to play the game, when they start to learn that you are not their pillar to lean on and make miserable, they will be forced to focus their attention on something other than you, other xenos, or hivechat.

That said it is rare anyone does anything that’s really worth a banishment. Usually, it’s people who are extremely hostile in chat, who demotivate the team with their shit talking, or plain saboteurs. A proper tool for these people is queen mute, banishment isn’t necessary at that point. But we have no queen mute.

I basically never use banishment. so much to the point i had hard time finding it the few times i deemed it necessary.

The only time i use banishment is if a xeno is causing others to not follow orders. To highlight a round, this was on Kutjevo, the old queen attacking fob had died and i was still young. The USCM was holding strangely likely thinking they can retake fob. I evo in to queen and took note of this. we could push in wipe them… BUT the alamo was clearly off of cooldown and i was still young so can’t screech and seize control.

I had given the order for the whole hive to fall back to comms and to stop attacking, in hopes the USCM would retake fob and foolishly start to dig back in. fact was we could only pick off a few at time and with out me grown CIC was just going to call the alamo up saving the bodies even if the hive wiped the ground forces.

Issue was the T3s flat out disobeyed me and were pushing fob… i had given order after order to fall back, but they did not. i had even told them the reason WHY i want them to fallback, the fact i was young still and needed time to grow.

Times like this is when banishment is needed to be given out, in cases of not only being disobedient but causing the rest of the hive to disobedient as well. if one xeno doesn’t follow orders its not big deal if just one off thing, they are going die with out support going off on there own.

but if they dragging a lot of others with them… thats when you need to get out the whip.

(also if want to know what happend to the end of the story… a mad lad carrier hugged a pred and we got a Abomb, the T3 in question that cause the debacle got off the hook so they can help protect the abomb larb. as well as the fact the rest of the hive wanted them off the hook so in celebration of getting a abomb i acquiesced.)
