Timeline clarification, the CM-SS13 Universe lore diverges in 1975. References to events after 1975 should be avoided.
What is the reasoning for this change? I am not on Discord.

Aliens franchise lore has faster than light ships, but not faster than light comms.
It’s kind of like ye olde daes when you had to send couriers everywhere. If you want to communicate with a colony or a station you need to send a spaceship.
Good for storytelling imo - makes captains and ships reminiscent of Age of Sail and moves a lot more autonomy onto them.
I can’t make an immediate reply because of slow mode, so:
simple oversight and game mechanics overriding verisimilitude of the setting. Some of the comics and other peripheral material also breaks it but the movies (particularly) and games (mostly?) haven’t.

No, they didn’t. It was clarified multiple times in the Discord, and everyone seems to want to jump to conclusions rather than look anything up or just ask.
Anything implemented in-game is canon. The walkman wasn’t invented until 1979, but as it is implemented in-game, you can assume it was invented at the same time in CM, as it was IRL. The same with songs.

I’m mostly meming but I do think it’s a little unclear where or how these things were clarified. The announcement itself says nothing about these clarifications and leaves things rather open-ended and I’m not a fan of admin roulette.
The intent of eliminating LRP “I LOVE LEAGUE OF LEGENDS LETS GO FIGHT BUGS AND JAMAICANS” is a good one and I agree with it, but it seems like a lot of these rule changes are rather opaque or require extra effort in an unclear direction to get more information about.
But, hey, I’m glad that I won’t have to hear about the newest Skibidi Toilet episode in the req-line.

Can I still talk about 90s songs and nu-metal or ICP? And if not, would you be so inclined as to put forward the idea for some sort of permission for 90s and early 2000s military culture, since I believe that it’s cool and the Gulf wars still fit the atmosphere?

Because boy oh howdy, did a lot of things happen after 1975.
I’m still gonna mention the internet ICly at least in some capacity at least on a minor scale because I refuse to believe that would not have developed at some point
at least on a smaller scale.. im still sad there’s instant messaging between chinook and bumfuck nowhere when any FTL travel still amounts to days or weeks of time in-universe
Can we also assume that anything directly mentioned in aliens/predator lore is also cannon 1975 and forward or does it have to be explicitly mentioned in CM lore or present in game?
That is a safe assumption, although we tend to avoid anything from the comics.
