So sometimes I will see a person rp as haveing as being insane according to the server rules. Examples include an MT who was obbssed with cleaning things. To the point of smashing windows to clean up a cig butt. A doctor who loved rabbits so much that they bombed and shot up REQ when they killed one. A marine who acted like his body was not his own or something. Mutilple universes where involed somehow. The CMO said they where insane. Be aware I do not know the names of these people so they could have been admins for all I know but I find that unlikely.
The main question I have is peopledo fun rp like thisyet its aginst server rules. I know that drugs and science moments get around this issue. So am i missing something. I know all enlisted members must get a pychological checkup that would prevent things like this. CC and CL might have more leeway as the checks might be less intense. I do know that pychosis takes time before the first episode. So if an admin does shoot it down you could rp as this being your first episode.
To be honest, iâve been always against this type of RP, in which ONLY YOU have fun doing it. The rest of the players have to deal with this BS, almost daily, USCM personnel are sane and sound, and ready for duty. Even the rules state that. Unless of course, event or similar. Iâd give it leeway to survivors, which most are civiians, etc. But no, iâm totally against USCM personnel acting coockoo.
If your RP bit is mostly just making things harder for other players itâs not a good RP bit. Fullstop.
That being said. Some of my most memorable encounters in CM have been with people RPing insanity. The prisoner who made a ânestâ of food or the Marine who ran around medical with a gun asking why all the doctors wouldnât save their clearly perma friend and then shot themselves when the MPs finally explained it to them.
Or the time mods made me and only me able to see ghostroles and I sat crying on the floor until I ODâd on antipsychotics.
Big thing is to ask yourself âam I just trying to be the center of attention and make things harder for other people or is this going to create an interesting dynamicâ
A Maintenance Technician smashing a window to pick up a cig isnât some good insane roleplay, itâs non-rp behaviour ontop of them being bald for not knowing how to remove the window and hop over without a mess.
Some examples of good roleplay Iâve seen of âinsanityâ are survivors role playing traumatic distress from the situation theyâre in. A FTL/SL breaking down after the operation is over because of how many marines in their squad were killed in front of them. Or a researcher doing some fun greeno RP and eventually becoming their own âfactionâ and siding with the greeno Queen to turn against the marines because of the voices in their head.
People that do fear or insanity roleplay are fantastic and should be celebrated. But itâs not common and the majority of people trying to do it have no clue what theyâre doing, donât understand roleplay properly or are trying to abuse/skirt the rules by claiming their low-rp/griefing actions are a result of them trying to do high roleplay insanity.
tldr; Insanity roleplay is cool but most people are clueless and donât know what theyâre doing or arenât actually being genuine.
note for those reading, as a researcher you are never allowed to âcompletelyâ side greenos to the point of freeing them to fight marines, but you can definitely make a stand against marines killing your greenos (and subsequently get a mk2 burst to the head).
I do understnad your opions. However before doing on deconstrucion on other players actions I used as mearly examples. Please answer my main question. How are these people are able to do such things without breaking the server rules.
For reference if I was ever to do insanity rp I would do something with a mind. Examples would be how on LSD I was shouting about the army of medical dummys over the radio to command. My rp never hurt anyone and I played it out correctly. However that was drug induced insanity but I asked about regualr insanity rp.
To be sure, iâd ahelp first, before attempting it, stating what ya plan on doing and if thats okay.
Also, if you see someone doing those types of LRP insanity memes, you should ahelp it, sometimes it goes unseen, i suppose.
So from what I have gathred all these people where simply breaking server rules and im no missing anything. Okay then that is all. I assume this rule does not apply to things like drug or science induced insanity as I have seen that many times.
As long as you keep the drug or science-induced insanity non-disruptive and believable, I doubt most people will pay you much mind. Same for any other kind of RP, really.
I hate to be cynical but itâs the truth - it depends on what admin is online. I know a bunch of admins like Stalkerino will let you fuck around if no one actually ahelps about it. Thereâs a few admins that intervene before anyone ahelps. Which is annoying, but itâs within their right per the rules.
That being said⌠The second 1 guy ahelps, itâs over with.
I would prefer admins to be a little more lenient with stuff like this though. Like instead of noting or banning you, they forfeit any protection you have under the rules re: your gimmick.
Yeah. Agreed. I think if youâre really confident a bit could make a good story itâs worth the risk.
Iâve done insanity RP twice as CO and never had anything but good things said about the bits. (Admittedly one was a mod actively making me hallucinate so- maybe that one doesnât count)
My line is, you can play a character that has a few screws loose - and come off as a little unhinged, but your active enlisted, meaning going all out insane? no go.
Plus people use âinsaneâ as an excuse to grief other players a lot
The rule of thumb with doing funny quirky stuff like that is you donât really want it to impede on other peopleâs rounds. Commit to the bit and admit that your round is going to be over for one reason or another once you begin.
For example in that specific round I literally broke into the SEAâs room and filled it with food and trash and by the time I was found it was a horrible den, and then in the brig I started to do the same thing.
The biggest pro tip is to never repeat a gag if it comes to you, or only do it once like a year.
Also any RP of insanity shouldnât result in you attacking others, the moment you throw hands the rp is over and youâre just an enemy.
IDK this isnât particularly well formatted, but you get the idea. You want to add something to the experiences of others, be memorable, be funny, and be harmless
