Radio satchel

Simply adds telephone back that has no holding space and goes in the pouch slot instead of the back pack slot. It would allow SLs and JTAC to use as more varied loadout with weapons like the M2C or the M56D or let specialist classes like scout communicate with command.

Pouch slot is way too cheap to carry a free communications device, maybe if it ate a belt slot without storage but even then its a bit cheap.

Backpack is iconic and you can carry a very varied loadout with it, only thing you cant really do without juggling is double primaries, ie mk2 and a shotty, which is a good sacrifice for comms imo, you also arent forced to run it, if comms are a decently hold you can just use jtac radio.

nah no way agree with erawh, plus it fits with the setting that rto packs are these big old chunky things reminiscent of old human historical rto packs but with some storage space too

That is something I crave, but would be too busted.

To balance this out let’s restrict it away from the riflemen and the Lance corporals beside the spec.

Add a higher point cost somewhere north of… 10 points maybe? Let’s make it 15 for now.

Given that it’s a pouch and not integrated into a full backpack it’s gonna have some problems with power.

So the limiting factor here is going to be needing power cells to keep it functioning. Given that most calls are pretty short in nature it should use up a decent amount of power per second. (Like NVGs)

There we go. Battery operated pouch phone.

you know that CM is set in 2122 year so smartphones were invented like 100 years ago, so why dont just add smart phones?

It’s 2182 and walkmans still exist, I think that’s enough to tell you why we don’t have smartphones.

CM’s literally set in 2182 plus alien’s from 1979.

I hate this entire concept to the core.

The whole point of the RTO, I refuse to call it an FTL or respect the new role, is to act as the communications member of a squad.

The SL should be carrying the radiopack themselves or relying on their RTO for this vital function. You should not be allowed to have a radio satchel so you can also carry around an M2C at the exactly same time.

For starters you can already do that, you just can’t put it onto your backpack slot, just carry it around in your hands.

you can already take M56D and M2C as any role, just HOLD IT IN YOUR HANDS.

Average runner, drone combo melting your M2C in 2 seconds because its not magharned

True brother man.

Nah, they (xenodevs) want me to pay 15pts for a pouch’d machete - let me get a pouch telephone at the same price. Let’s not lie, a prank phone satchel is amazing - consider what a prank phone pocket slot is - an easy 15pt spend.

I’ve suggested this to someone high on the dev team years ago and got explicitly told no. But the dev team core has effectively changed multiple times since then and people with the “lets screw up marine comms for absolutely no reason” bias are no longer in power it seems, so maybe this would pass this time.

In the ideal world world though, the static comms and the phones should be completely deleted both for not fitting the setting and the gameplay reasons. Coordinating marines in the FOB sieges is already hard enough without making it even harder. And inorganic “hold random spot” map design is just inferior to the organic design where the marines would hold whichever spots make tactical sense.

In exchange, someone needs to come up with a more reasonable system that punishes marines for playing too defensively and incentivizes them to actually push.
