Random event ideas

So if you didn’t know there’s a random event subsystem, there’s currently only one random event and so i want to ask you for ideas on what other events there could be.

Power outage ==) engineering APC needs to be switched back on/repaired

Faulty piping ==) A random pipe starts to leak with audible hiss. After one minute it explodes unless repaired with a blowtorch.

Malfunctioning AI Core ==) Makes corrupted announcements (ARES announces random gibberish and threatening announcements). If ignored progressively disables:

  1. OB (ARES remotely locks OB and cannot be unlocked)
  2. AA (AA powers down and needs to be manually turned on and set again)
  3. Other departments at random (brig, CIC, medbay…)
  4. Has negative effect on synthetics (no idea what effects right now, feel free to come up with ideas)

ASRS Special delivery ==) ASRS elevator brings random high quality crate (MK1, BlackMarket weapons, rare attachments, etc…)

Those are few random ideas I thought of right now. Not taking in account balance or overal impact on the round. Just a few ideas to bounce off from.

Here is one. Groundside meteor storms that last a short period of time. Doesn’t gib the player however it in cases their, likely corpse, body in a breakable rock tile. It can’t happen over space ports, caves, or resin roof.

Here’s another. “Emergency Cryo Vault” each time a round starts there is a small chance to spawn in a small room with three cryostasis beds. If available it will be filled randomly selected with a XO whitelist kitted, a CL with nuclear codes, a CE with 100 steel 50 plasteel construction pouch, a IO with a funny cape and one full large Intel pouch that will be comprised of random Intel on the map, an assortment of different riflemen kits, a Quartermaster with a SG kit (and 20,000$ credits for ship side), a SG, or any random specialist with at least one funny ammo (impact HE magazine for Scout, white flame tank for a pyro, two OT gibbanators for the demo, funny grenade pack for GL, etc… along these lines).

The vault requires two keys, one spawns with XO/CL alongside a fax from WY stating the existence of the vault. One spawns randomly on the colony. So that survivors can’t spawn in a hive death squad pre drop.

Remember the pizza planet delivery ERT? Have the server roll for a 20% chance at minute 40 and at minute 80 for a total of 40% chances of having a pizza delivery shuttle arrive for delivering pizza. It can only roll once per round.

I mean if the pentagon can saturate with orders the pizza huts/domino’s on the area when a military op is about to happen I wouldn’t be suprised if a shuttle with pizza arrived to the almayer to get officers their meals.
It’d be cool if we code in more exclusive features and items for the delivery team.

This idea of mine popped out when I remember seeing cargo always spawning with a pre-filled M3A4 pistol belt, and perhaps its time to put it into use aside from shooting down CMBs.

Only 30% chance of happening every 10-15 minutes of the round, and only announces/happens when the elevator is still down there.

ASRS scans detected foreign signatures infesting the elevator.

List of possible “alive” things appearing in the elevator:
Friendly/Neutral: (65% chance)
Random/Named cat(s). (cannot have Jones The Cat as a random name.)
Mice/Mouse. (the smaller kind of mouse like research’s mouse Doc)
Gecko. (the tiny green lizard from cape river)
Bats. (from caves in maps)

Hostile: (35% chance) (DOES NOT HAPPEN AT ALL BELOW <90 POP)
A swarm of hostile hybrisa-rats. (5 rats, +5 per cargo member for a total of 20) (The rats deal 2-3 damage at attack rate of 2 seconds, so it wont be too lethal)
Wolf Lizard (the one from the jungles in LV-624/Cape River, only 1, and only spawns if there’s 2+ cargotechs) (the ASRS computer also plays a growling noise as a special indication to help)
Electrified Grille (but not invincible)
A very broken mini-turret (is rotated in a random direction when it is spawned, shoots 10-damage bullets every 1 second, 3 tiles-outwards range, starts with 25-60 health, 50 ammo)
A very broken omni-turret (shoots a 15-damage bullet in a random direction every 20, starts with 50-125 hp, 100 ammo, constantly creates noise everytime it shoot)

The only present event is just RP fluff and all the proposed stuff is to directly fuck with marines, or LRP slop like pizza delivery to a military ship during combat operation, not to mention goddamned alien lizard living and then comming out of ASRS bowels.

AI maintaining group, makes CIC diagnose why ARES malfunction and send an ERT to fix it.

I kinda like this, but it would make sense for CTs to stay armored up if super turrets can spawn.

maybe add a super rare chance for a neutral “stowaway” that kinda does his own thing and has to avoid getting caught by MPs, and even more rarely for them to be CLF aligned or something but with no gear so they have to solid snake their way through the ship

I once saw a round where giant spiders were coming out of vents and attacking marines, like in prep.

Oh yeah! Played a round as QM where giant spiders came out of the ASRS, screaming about them was real fun.

Kinda wish that happened more often ( Well not too often.. a 0.5% chance sounds funny enough )

ARES maint tech who can install small upgrades at a minor risk

Stowaway (no antag or agent, just RP as something for MPs to do)

Upgrades for power lifters randomly going up ASRS

Idea: ASRS bringing up corpses randomly or the good ol’ spiders. I miss the spiders.

its difficult to come up with ideas that don’t subvert everything or make one guys life a pain in the ass. Replacing the OT ethanol tank with an alternative ethanol like a mixed drink would be something random that changes nearly nothing. Might also open up the knowledge of the alternatives for the colours a bit.

If you want something that doesn’t harm marines, one event could be the req elevator sometimes giving a black market crate that wasn’t ordered.

Random AK-4047 crate for marines with AP, or something.

It doesn’t have to benefit them either.

From the only one we have we could use as example. RP fluff, not LRP nonsense, or fucking with marines for no reason like APCs breaking. WY raises prices of stuff in vendors, you can complain about the company, or capitalism, or whatever, great start of RP conversation. ASRS shits out crate with a weapon, or APC soiles itself :expressionless_face:

Ares brings up a random number of “Humans” all with the same name and are identical. I picture them being non-hostile but, marines can make an enemy out of anything.

Super easy random event that basically changes nothing. Almayers FTL drive drops out of hyperspace too fast and literally all the lights in the Almayer start broken.

I always wanted more random events generally. Good, Bad and Netural.

I mean we have the system in place for them to happen, more round variation would be nice, even if it’s not in favor of one side Marines/Xenos.

Like Random ERT’s for both sides, Pathogen, Hostile ERT’s or just Helpful ones - just more chaos in general.

Or just more lore friendly shipside events, who knows. Anything is possible.

It would be nice to spice up rounds once in a while without Admin events.
