realistic surgical system

Instead of open heart surgery or a brain surgery being completed in under a minute by some, how about you need to scrub in each time, have a sterile surgical field, assistants, infections, and surgical procedures that can take up to hours to be finished. Would doctors become more competent that way?

Doctor should become a WL that you would unlock by studying medicine for like 5 years

4 years of studying, then 3 or 7 years of residency before you unlock doctor

Add a WY insurance agent who denies all your surgeries because they’re not essential.

There is (was) a plan to import kenshi(n) med system to CM, which would be closer to getting a M.D. diploma.

I think TGMC has/had this and it made it very funny watching the Corpsmen fumble for their antibiotics and paracetamol after every IB surgery because of it being essentially impossible to have a sterile environment colonyside.

You must have 36,000 hours on nurse to become doctor

remove self-sterilizing tools, if you get nudged during surgery you have a chance to kill, disfigure or tear an artery of your patient. Also you need proper lighting and if a queen stomps within a certain radius you slip and cut the patient.

Jokes aside, bringing back surgical infections would be interesting

I always enjoyed a bit of added process in washing my hands, and wearing proper surgical equipment (or giving them antibacterial if i couldnt) back before it was removed

While yes, this is in acid goop. I’d genuinely consider any proposals thought up in Development on its possible implementation

I’d agree it should be more engaging, we need medical and other roles to be interesting, people don’t understand how important Doctors are. Anything to improve their experience would be a good thing. Although there’s an issue with making it too time consuming and skill-based, which is a difficult thing to balance. Doing something both interesting and not too difficult is a tricky thing.

For me I’d imagine some sort of visual surgery system, where you’d visually cut open a chest on an overlay or fix wounds visually on some separate overlay, but it would require a lot of sprites/complicated code I’m sure.

As much as I love the idea of operating someone with my bare hands and stabbing them with unsterilized knifes…

Yes, surgery is currently very non-engaging. Infections could be a nice touch for in an instance Eschar.

To sterilise I think that

  1. The medic players should be able to know what is sterile currently and what isn’t and
  2. Have a way to sterilise things that is portable, although bulky.

Aditionaly for surgery times I suppose we could have a bonus if people are helping you operate, since it’s usually done in teams in real life.

But for everything that hinders the medics I also think there should also be something to make their life easier, so that it’s not just frustrating.

I do agree with zenith here though:

Being able to see someone’s open ribcage was one of the best and prettiest things I’ve seen in modern PVP, we need more of this.
