Remove cryothreads

I have zero idea what benefit they serve, beyond the singular instance of it being Gramps who is likely dead now, given he went into hospice a while ago now. I feel like approved instances of it at most but they should be a rarity

me looking at the general DISCUSSION area on the forums should not be 100 threads of banned or salty players pretending they don’t want to keep coming back to the terminal addiction

example is the above

every fucking thread is a cryothread

Just give them their own seperate category like before, problem solved

If you don’t like them you can just filter them out

Disagree.

They spent at most a sentence or two discussing why they are leaving, I wouldn’t call the majority of them salt posts. Most of them are just sharing memorable players or moments.

While I dont have a copy of what was said in Alexi’s or emiix’s cyropost I remember them being fairly to the point and non antagonistic. I disagree with deleting them but I know thats an issue that isn’t practical to resolve in this thread if at all.

I for the most part don’t see a problem with the large part of the cyroposts made this week. It looks bad on the community yeah, but thats again, a different conversation.

I’d hate for memorable players to just ghost the community. Which some do and that’s their own choice, but yeah.

Also see what I’ve said in whats now become a hijacked thread (sorry birb)

P.S. I was told gramps has passed away, if that clears anything up

they already have a subcategory

this smells like russian government classifying demographic statistics as state secrets

the actual reason why these people are leaving is multiz

My man, some people want to leave with a message, some dont. Nothing wrong with that.

The actual reason people are leaving is the same reason people have been posting cryothreads for decades, its called burn out.

Anyone who decries the VERY limited use of multiz as the herald of the end times of CM is reading the room wrong (a single map and the Almayer). The removal of the tank, or addition of the tank, or changing of the smartgun, or change in bullet rate of fire, or automatic fire, or the rework of the Almayer, or the removal of the Sulaco, or addition of [new map here], or new strains have all been cited as reasons for people to leave.

The truth is people just burn out, and some may latch on to some new concept as a reason for their departure.

Or they were just banned.

reason for burnout is always bad design

we have enough psychological research done that can be applied to make people play the same game for decades, for tens of thousands of hours, and failure to create stimuli to instill addiction displays poor planning and bad gameplay loops

I don’t agree, I think cm is designed well in its main gameplay of shooting benos and playing as benos (I’m not a fan of shipside surgery is my main gripe with the gameplay loop but removing it would create a lot more problems then it fixes)

I think the problem is it’s just, the type of game to make you upset if you play too frequently. But there’s so much unique incredible stuff to appreciate too. There’s good and bad design in every part of the game and it’s not something that can realistically be solved when it’s such an opinionated thing. Every major update is a risk on how people will perceive it and if it will function as intended. And this is a game that has content for thousands of hours of playtime even if you can’t play it nonstop.

People might not be truly connected with others they met here outside the game; i think it’s fine for them to want to part ways peacefully

Many cryoposts in a short period is not a Forever Problem anyways, it happens in waves. Obviously there’s Things going on in game design and the community but lest we forget that school also starts in the next 2 or 3 weeks for many people and so posts saying someone will be away (with good intentions!) even if we see them a few times on thanksgiving or winter break let people know what’s up

Every time I have left for an extended period of time I did not post a thread because I don’t need my ego boosted.

You announcing it right now boosts your ego. You have eliminated all your divine aura by saying this. This is extremely shameful.

As Marcus Aurelius once said: “Whoever has the need to announce something, is mistaken. A man does not need to say anything at all. It is deeds that speak of you more than anything else. I am a Roman Emperor and my words are universally applicable because I am awesome. When I left the Empire in the hands of an unworthy successor, I did not leave with a cryopost. I simply died. I am the motherfucking Emperor and I can do anything I want. IPv4 blows, by the way. Replace that shit immediately!”

Truly, wiser words were never spoken.

Make game not suck and there will be no more cryothreads about leaving.

Ez.

see steelpoint’s comment, nothing is fun forever and people will burn out, latest X hot button issue isn’t going to be The World of Warcraft Killer:tm: kind of issue

Cryothreads definitely don’t really belong for people who are banned to garner sympathy, especially if they broke egregious rules like for example cheating

Fundamentally them being in discussion floods out the actual ability for discourse and is a forum issue even if they remain.

Cryothreads should be moderated definitely but I like em. they feel like a part of the community to do. Just in case you want to say you aren’t playing anymore but appreciated others. Lots of salt usually fr
