Shipside Medbay might be the most dull role. You do chemistry, then hope the FD and Synth don’t do all the fun things planetside for you and the GP is conscious.
Yes, you can find your own roleplay shipside but that isn’t fun and CM’s medical system is kinda interesting and not getting to see it as a shipside Doctor is bad.
Solution: Remove Medbay
Corpsmen get a small supply of IA and nothing else.
Now, there is no larva removal or chemistry shipside.
Marines have to secure the colony Medbay, and Chemistry. From there, Surgeons can perform larva removals + bone fixing as well as making MB, KD and whatever else.
This also gives a backline target for Marines to protect (ASS) and backliners to attack.
“But what about hijack” “What if you lose the Medbay”
Surgeons can perform rudimentary bone fixing + larva removal at LZ / shipside at the expense of permanent delibetating organ damage until they can be healed on a surgery bed.
This solves boring shipside Medbay by deploying everyone, + gives Marines additional objectives to secure.
Even if it served zero function - it’s thematic and makes sense to be on the ship, provided roleplay opportunities and such. Removing it is removing the soul of the Almayer.
Instead of just “removing” things, we should strive to “improve” them.
My suggestion is to make playing a Doctor/Nurse, Chemist or any Med-bay role more “engaging”, that could be done through various systems being visually and technically more engaging, like mini-games within themselves, but yeah would require a lot of code/sprite work to actually be engaging and “fun”.
I remember seeing the “Mine-Sweeper” minigame PR, might not be the best comparison, but it proves you can add those kinds of things.
Meh, sounds like someone that just wants unga full the way and not having to ride back Almayer when fucked up. If you don’t want to return to Almayer either: hope that you didn’t get fucked up hard enough to return, or just yolo suicide on front.
This is a terrible idea. A lot of people find ship side fun and in fact not dull. I do not think people should be forced to deploy to have RP or engage with the game.
Synth is very robust against backliners. It’s very safe for them to take an infected to medical and remove the larva. They don’t really have to secure it, even just a flipped table is enough.
If a field doctor tried that, they’d risk getting turned into mincemeat by a runner or lurker, but a synth is pounce resistant, durable, fast, and can kill a backliner who doesn’t run away. So synths have free reign to remove larva groundside without having a buddy guard them or properly barricading it.
I’ve had numerous different synths refuse to do the no-secure removal. Further, they almost always have guards. Plenty of medics go with them to deliver the patient, or random PFCs who see the HVT and wander around with it.
nerfing synth isnt a solution to every one of CMs problems
also yeah why are we making the game more streamlined???
this is an RP game, i dont think we should be removing more features from it in order to make shipside RP more boring lol
you are making shipside (and by extension every single shipside role) even more dull, do you want to rework every other role so they deploy aswell? why not remove the ship at this point
I think removing the Medbay isn’t the right idea, but I do acknowledge that Medbay needs more to do.
Currently, marines are only really evacuated to remove larvae, everything else they walk off or go to FOB doc; I think to give medical more to do, we need to make it easier to medvac marines.
Add the medvac to both dropships by default, make the cooldown on picking up stretchers lower, and make the stretchers able to take 1-2 hits more before getting destroyed (or add spares in medical storage)
This lets medics and pilots send people up to the Almayer faster, so it’s done more often; right now it’s only worth it because hugged are the high priority and the cooldown is long enough that you can only really get 1-2 before time ends; plus, CAS has to do CAS stuff too, so it’s not just a medvac machine.
This also balances out because it’ll take longer for Marines to redeploy to the front, so it shouldn’t overwhelm xenos; and a medvac on a marine isn’t the end of the world or a failure from the hive’s perspective, it just means that target is away for a while. By the they get back the frontline could have shifted drastically in the hive’s favor
Marines aren’t medevacced because shipside surgery takes too long, the GP will take forever to get around to medevacing you because he doesn’t want to, he won’t land instantly because he wants to shoot things, it’ll take a minute for a Doctor to come to the Normandy, then you wait several minutes to redeploy.
Faster MEDEVAC solves only bits and pieces, planetary Surgery solves all of those.
