Before xenos were noted for metarushing the FOB if marines fumble the front. So devs added no weeding around the LZ to prevent xenos from pushing it early. Although it didnt quite work at first since zerk rav heals from balditos getting slashed so then they added sentries to actually prevent it and this time it actually worked.
People think its fairgame since xenos get blasted by the sentries and they actually need some effort to break them (needs a boiler). Less job for moderators and everyone is happy(?) with how things turned out and theres little to no or no XOOC saying not to metarush now.
I wouldnt link the player report but i propose that “dropping without permission” should have a game mechanic tied to it. Instead of noting people it should notify the MPs/CIC/Department head in their radio if a shipside crew dropped planetside without authorization.
Hell even yet maybe deploy some kind of security MP working joes to assist the MPs into arresting the person (ERT) and they go to cryo after the suspect get arrested.
Another is reverting back old XX names and no ranking system (very unpopular opinion) but im a firm believer that if xenos were anonymized again that it would be virtually impossible for xenos to metagrudge other fellow xenos. So less job for moderators again too.
What do you guys think? and what OOC violations do you think that can be gamiefied?
Dont know if this should be policy feedback so its gonna be in general.
Most of the time if the MPs exist, they eventually notice or get notified by CIC or CMO or someone.
But deploying an MP for a victimless crime, that’s barely a major crime is not something I suspect many CMPs will bother with unless they’re ordered to or have a lot of bored MPs on their hands.
Due to the nature of Field Arrests, things can get messy if they decide to run or bugger off outside of secure areas completely. And giving MPs lee way to just trapes around the ground map willy-nilly after criminals is probably a bad idea.
It’s a lot more convenient just to wait them out on the Almayer and arrest them when they come back up.
But also it’s a note. It’s there to let you know the admins are keeping track of your behaviour so if you constantly do things like deploy without auth.
In all seriousness dropping without permission is like actually a huge round shenanigan. It actively messes with CIC and should only be done with permission and if CIC is actively showing no signs of life or competency of any kind (I should know, I have a note for it, but it was absolutely for the former, and i should have asked admins)
And no xeno tags is kinda lame, it would be like forcing random names and appearances for marines so that people stop getting metagamed. The same arguement
I do find it funny that in marine law 90% of charges are also a rulebreak that will get you in trouble, if thats a rulebreak, why have marine law in the first place right?
That said there was a time where MPs would be working as a in-game admin(to some extent), the caveat is that for whatever reason it was decided that giving military police tools that stunned anyone&everyone for 5 business days would be appropriate. Ares would literally snitch on you in general comms if you broke any window, and your fingerprints would stick out like a sore thumb. Forensics. (not even bringing up the fact how many bad actors showed up to capitalize on such system)
Yeah its kinda counterintuitive. I think this should be more clarified. Whats even the point of MPs if you are just gonna punish them even if they were processed? Like that cannibal doctor thing and the guy acting insane in the maintenance. Why does he even get noted when the MPs are already onto him?? Yeah yada yada roleplay standards.
IIRC we had antag roles but i completely forgot about them. They were very barebones too.
Like maybe just an RNG chance pick a support role like MTs/Doctors or even the mess chef to have a roleplay objective like playing as a “cannibal” or maintenance man who is obsessed with clearing walls or a chef who is actually a priest, gibs permad bodies and make it as an offering in the altar. Anything that spawns emergent RP really.
It really sucks that the people who are trying to make the game somewhat “less boring” shipside is getting punished. Jesus christ. The guy took perma’d bodies in the morgue, didnt grief someone (unless it removes points from techwebs) and somewhat gave the MP something to do (but he got reported)
only for xenos. I didnt really like cliques forming in the xeno faction but maybe its just me being a boomer.
as i said. Maybe give them something else to do shipside. What we’re missing right now is sidequests or roleplay quests for shipside people. Even i am not immune to getting bored as a CT/RO and start doing idiotic shit inside requisitions.
i do think its a symptom of shipside being “boring”. I wouldnt disclose “when” but i was chucking nades south of req for insurance fraud (a marine accidentally primed an HEDP, caused a pipe blowing like scene) and i made it much worse by throwing more until it broke one wall to be a girder. After that i called the CL so that i can claim insurance money. It caused some RP stuff happening with me, the CL, another CT, CE and an MT. Too bad there were no MPs active at that time.
Im sure it would’ve been different if some admeme was watching me.
I think moderators and admins should be less “hand-holdy” when it comes to rulebreaks. John Marine shot John Delta? No need to get the admins on it, just have good ol’ MP justice. John Marine shot John Delta, decapped him, threw him under the Almayer, etc? Then maybe the admin should get in. Mass shooting in req? Admin. Medic deciding to inap OD someone? MPs. John Marine decides to shoot the MPs trying to arrest him? Admins.
It’s insane how OP the MP tools are vs. Marines because a few years ago they were just getting steamrolled constantly by people who decided to resist. Admins would then sleep everyone in the dropship and go “NO RESISTING THE MPS!! THIS IS LRP!!”
Ok, behold, new in-game mechanic to fix “dropping without permission”: nurses and such cannot mechanically enter the dropship, being blocked by invisible walls.
Ok, everything is coded like you propose. I’m some doctor onboard Almayer, kind of bored so I deploy without premission and then go on my merry way to act as another medic. ARES, or whatever automaticly notifies MPs/CIC/Department on their radio. Now what? What happens now?
Will MPs go down looking for me to die to backliners? Alright, lets say they don’t and they did found me somehow, but we are on the frontlines. Will they start shooting their tazers at me while I’m next to other marines fighting xenos? Will they throw a flashbang? Will they run up to me with stunbaton right in the middle of me reviving dead marine? How other marines will react? Rules pretty much clearly state that what MPs do will get them killed due to xeno presence, which gives right to shoot at MPs.
In the worst case scenario you end up with every single deploying MP dying to both xenos and marines. In the best case scenario I get to stay groundside without anybody doing anything to me, while med department is grieffed because they have now one less surgeon (with slot still taken, unlike if you cryoed) to operate on marines just as the wave of injured came.
They will get killed by xenos, or they will get shoot by marines for trying to mess with other friendly human. It would be also fairly LRP and could happen every round. I imagine it would be kind of fun to try to avoid such MP synths planetside. However the biggest issue: Staff will never allow players without synth whitelist to play as synths outside some rare LRP events, or just combat in thunderdome. Good luck gathering enough willing whitelisted participants for that.
You can do it yourself. If you feel metagrudged, just either disable that, or change your tag. Done. I wouldn’t propose this for humans, you can get attached to your human char, but xeno P1-SS, or xeno SH1-T isn’t roleplaying a different character, it is just only an indicator of potential skill, you expect someone with the longest possible tag to be atleast competent enough, unlike some XX.
Those that are already “gamiefied” are the only ones that can.
I enjoy (being) griefing people as (by) MP in absolute nonsensical way possible.
Walking by a broken windows? “Hello private, you’re under arrested for DtGP”. MPs seeing trash people left on the floor at req line? “Hey boy, pick the trash up or insub and DC“. Looking at MP? “Hello private, you’re under arrest for insub”.
Can we just remove MPs now as admemes getting active?
SISTER! You have been charged with DTQP (Damage to Queen property), DAQM (Disrespecting a queen mother), resisting arrest, AWADC (Assault with a deadly claw), insurb, major contrabrand, xenoslaughter, cruelty to smallhosts and crimes against xenokind!
Or make MPs pseudomods that can put a notes on people via computers that is persistent over the rounds. + With round numbers.
Then MPs can ahelp if said criminal been breaking the law too much (dropping planetside)
Just keep it to plat or gold MPs then. And as i said it has the round numbers + their name on it. Its like a transparent note that everyone can see so you can dispute it. Like a criminal record persistent all rounds then disappears after 1 or 2 months. Or even every 10 rounds or so.
Its like being in a probation. If you break it again you get noted/banned by “admemes” this time.
And no xeno tags is kinda lame, it would be like forcing random names and appearances for marines so that people stop getting metagamed. The same arguement
They do this in RMC14 downstream for marines on the xeno-side iirc, where marine appearances are completely randomized while playing as xeno, and it’s honestly pretty terrible. They had a pretty bad metatargeting problem there.
feeling like you’re playing PvE no matter what you do as xeno, it’s a really nice change of pace to see marines players you normally play alongside from the perspective of the opposite team, and randomizing their appearances breaks that immersion. It’s almost like a different gamemode entirely, all for the advantage of not being able to metatarget.
