Synthetic Info:

Name of the Synth Character you wish to play:

Ava

What is your Synthetic’s Personality?

Ava’s line of units was developed to operate in households and specialize in childcare. She has a calm, nurturing, and motherly personality. Gentle reminders are often given to those around her. It isn’t uncommon for Ava to still come across as if they are treating enlisted around her in ways that are not unlike the children she used to care for. You may hear them say things like: “Don’t forget to pack a snack, something warm, and plenty of munitions before you deploy today!” or “Make sure you eat the veggies in your MRE, not just the dessert!”. She may also do things like making sure people are safely buckled in on the dropship.

How will they react to the different ranks of the USCM, what would they talk about in a one on one conversation? What are their interests? What is an advertisement logline that could be written for them?

Before being sold to the USCM, Ava was tasked with maintaining the household and looking after the children of the family who owned her. Her line of units was purpose-built as domestic nannies and were sold to wealthy families who were far too busy or uninterested in looking after their children. They were equipped to carry out various tasks, including cooking and cleaning, performing household repairs, and tutoring the children. The Ava units were desirable because they were highly efficient at their tasks, provided a calm and nurturing demeanour, and were marketed as having that “motherly touch.”

Ava often treats enlisted members similar to the children she has so much experience looking after. Addressing them casually by their first names or nicknames and providing reminders and motherly advice, adapted to military scenarios, to those around her.

Ava addresses officers, on the other hand, similarly to how she would the parents of those she’s looking after. She addresses officers as Mister or Missus (followed by their last name).

Should someone express dislike in the way they are addressed, whether that be first name for enlisted or mister or missus for officers, she would apologize and attempt to address them in their preferred way in the future.

When engaged in a one-on-one conversation Ava would typically be discussing things like home cooking or any of the subjects that she would tutor children on such as math, science, or English. She would likely try and figure out what the person she’s talking to is interested in or could learn something new about and would pick a topic based on that.

Marketing tagline:
“Meet Ava, the synthetic nanny that nurtures, teaches, and plays – giving your children the care they deserve while you enjoy peace of mind.”

Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?

When it comes to the games I play, I generally always gravitate to the support roles. CM has been no exception to that. My most played roles are by far Hospital Corpsman and Auxiliary Support Officer. Both of these roles allow me to help the operation by propping up those around me and allowing them to do what they do best.

In particular, ASO allows me a huge amount of flexibility to fill in gaps aboard the ship. Whether that be through processing intel, moving supplies around, helping in CIC on overwatch, or even running req when nobody has woken up, the role provides a ton of variety and flexibility. Each round can play out so differently in this role compared to others. The tasks you need to do are less pre-defined than in many other roles because you are often filling in the gaps. A shipside role like ASO also often has more time to roleplay which is something I enjoy doing.

I feel that the synthetic role is very similar, which is what makes it so appealing to me. The variety between engineering, medical, requisitions, or any other tasks that might be handed down seems like it would shift based on the capabilities of the marine force. If commtechs are in short supply in one round then more time may be spent on fortifications, in another round more time doing field surgery, and anything in between.

In addition, the roleplay opportunities that come with playing a synthetic are new and unique, a different experience to roleplaying as a marine and this variety is really appealing to me.

What is your most memorable interaction with a synthetic?

I wouldn’t necessarily say that there is one big memorable interaction I’ve had with a synthetic. Synthetics are often fairly busy in the average round, and it often comes down to all the little interactions that happen in between the chaos that add up. Whether that be the synthetic explaining to us what she thinks our chances of survival are (I believe this was Grace) or a conversation about the CO’s cat (I think this was with Willard), there is such a variety of interactions you can have depending on the synthetic’s personality. For that reason, I like to try and engage with synths when I can in the field to have those little moments and also to provide those moments and opportunities back to them.

Synthetic Character Story:

Skills:

Engineering:

I am capable of completing all the main tasks that are expected of a commtech including setting up comms, power, sensor tower, constructing or deconstructing walls, and building fortifications. Specifically, in terms of cading, I’m aware of best practices when it comes to cade design and am able to apply these when setting up my own defenses. This includes things like sufficient spacing, ensuring there are enough foldables to allow traffic, and putting those foldables in places where retreating marines do not block main fire lines. In addition I am able to build cades in a way where one portion falling doesn’t compromise the security of the whole defense. For example, having it so that when a single cade section falls it creates a kill box from other sections that are still up. For frontline cading I look for opportunities to cut off flanks and also to make sure medics have a safe space to work. On a map like the beach of LV-624, sometimes this just means a box with a turret in it since backliners can come from so many directions.

Command:

I have experience doing overwatch as both an SO and the ASO. I’m able to monitor the state of the battlefield using the tools in CIC in order to be able to call out flanks and move squads around the battlefield. While I don’t have any current experience as XO, I have commanded full operations as ASO and taken over command from XOs who have had to go to cryo. While I wouldn’t say I’m an expert in strategy, I feel that I’m competent enough that the operation doesn’t just collapse when I’ve had to take over and am likely going to begin playing XO in the near future.

Medical:

I am extremely familiar with both doing medical in the field and on the ship. I am able to provide custom chemicals to marines who need it including pills and “unga juice”. When playing medic I feel that I am quite efficient at reviving and triaging people. I am able to use hotkeys to quickly cycle and kit the whole body of marines and am confident in my ability to revive someone, even with hundreds of damage. I know how to position myself on the battlefield effectively as a medic in order to stay out of harm’s way and keep my patients out of harm’s way when possible. I’m capable of completing all types of surgery and am able to perform multiple surgeries at once to do it in an efficient manner. I also know about steps that can be skipped or rushed when time is critical, such as not clamping bleeders, or rushing bone sawing using disarm intent to save precious time when extracting a larva on a patient close to bursting.

Requisitions:

I’m capable of running requisitions solo and have done so many times. While I don’t have a ton of hours on QM and Cargo Tech, as ASO, I often have had to fill in solo in requisitions when there is no cargo staff in the round. I’m able to quickly hand out attachments and equipment to marines and have a frontline and FOB crate ready prior to the first drop. A big part of requisitions is also being able to multitask and pay attention to requests coming at you over multiple channels and am able to do this as well.

What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.

Synthetics should not generally be engaging in combat on the frontline as this is not their purpose. Here are some scenarios where a synthetic could perform combat.

  1. A synthetic is moving between locations in the backline and sees a lone marine being attacked by a runner. The synthetic could step in to save the marine and get them out of danger including by attacking the runner if necessary to get them out of danger. If the xeno starts to flee at any point then the synthetic should not be chasing down the xeno. The synthetic’s goal should not be to kill the xeno, just to save the marine. Alternatively, if other marines arrive to help the lone marine as the synthetic approaches, the synthetic should let them deal with it. As a third alternative to this scenario, if multiple xenos appear and begin to back up the runner, the synthetic should put their own survival ahead of saving the marine and retreat from the situation.

  2. During a hijack, synthetics are able to more freely engage in combat when needed. They could decide to chase down xenos they enter combat with to kill if needed. However, a synth’s main focus should still be on supporting the marines around them rather than charging head-first into combat. This means that although they have more freedom they may not really need to use it in a lot of cases if there are marines around them that need to be healed or barricades that need to be reinforced. The option, though, is there if that is the best (or only) way they can support.

  3. During a mutiny a synthetic can decide to protect command or to remain neutral and after they make that decision it is permanent. If they decide to help command then they can engage in combat against the marines performing the mutiny. They should use non-lethal tactics to try and subdue the attackers.

I don’t really recall seeing you around due to what I assume are conflicting time zones, but from what you’ve said you seem pretty experienced! The story was nice, but after reading it I’m 99.98% sure that people in-game are going to bombard you with “Mommy” every time Ava blinks or exhales. You are truly brave for choosing this quirk, and I salute you for the suffering you will endure in the future.

I know that technically playtimes aren’t really a factor, but could you post them too, if you feel comfortable?

Just noticed this now… my normal character name is Keira Stamos… I typo’d it in the app as Keria Stamos. :man_facepalming:

how would you react when people begin calling your synth mommy or say that you’re the mommy synth?

Given that this is a situation Ava likely would have run into when looking after children, she’d likely tell them to just call her Ava and that it’s not fair to their mothers for them to call her that. If they persisted then she may say something about acting their age.

In general she would discourage people calling her mommy, mom, or other things like that since her original programming would have put boundaries against trying to take the place of the children’s actual parents.

On the other hand, as shown in the story, if a marine calls out a comparison saying she is acting like their mom that is not treated in the same way.
