Synthetic Info:
Name of the Synth Character you wish to play:
Sloan
Provide a short description of your synthetic’s backstory
Sloan was primarily used as a Medical Synthetic in one of the various colonies established by W-Y. Unfortunately, loss of personnel due to illness or otherwise old age - led him to being utilized elsewhere in various jobs such as security (being a warden), engineering, and otherwise menial/difficult tasks unable to be maintained by humans 24/7. He has more knowledge in the medical department, but luckily, his databases contained more than enough knowledge to handle other jobs. The reason being of his station aboard the USS Almayer is due to his colony being outdated/abandoned due to monetary losses. W-Y offered the USCM a synthetic. One that is not too terribly outdated, but not new either. A perfect way for W-Y to regain their money, while having the USCM pay very little for a synthetic that could still be very useful for them. Military-grade, am I right?
Describe your synth’s personality without mentioning their skills or previous professions
Sloan would be described as older. Figuratively and literally. He has wrinkled skin, with crows feet as his eyes, exaggerated whenever he smiles. He sports a grey mullet on his head, with a grey long beard donning his face. His eyes are a grey-green. They glint in the sunlight, beaming proudly. He is a father figure, referring to many younger personnel as Son, Sonny, or Dearie. With officers of course, he would say Sir or Ma’am, denoting their respect earned as a Comissioned Officer. He could be described as timely, reliable, and respectable. He might be the father figure that many of these Marines never had in their lives.
On the topic of quirks, I would like to consider Sloan having the “Caring” trait. Similar to Markus from Detriot:Become Human with how he treats his assigned human as his caretaker. I believe too much of a “random haha lol” funny quirk such as being a Dude-Bro for example would not fit in with a military mindset. A normal, agreeable synthetic should be more “the norm” than a quirky one.
How would your synthetic interact with enlisted personnel, officers and civilians? How could you involve your personality into these interactions?
Enlisted - Sonny, Son, or Dearie
Officers - Sir, Ma’am
Civilians - Sonny, Son, or Dearie
Sloan would interact with everybody with respect, as long as they gave him respect back. He might not have the USCM spirit instilled in his programming, but he’s willing to learn. All information asked of him would be responded to in a timely and pleasant manner. If the unit does not know the knowledge at this time, a curt “I don’t know yet, but I’ll find out for you” would be said. Any harsh language or aggressive behavior would be dealt with in as much of non-aggressive a stance as possible. For example, if a private were to say, try to steal Sloan’s boots, he would take a step back, before saying, “Okay, son, enough with the pranks”. If the private were to continue with the act, Sloan would joke, but in a more annoyed tone, such as “You need new boots or something? Mine are pretty worn out. There are plenty of pairs in your prep area”. On the third act of aggression, Sloan would instead contact somebody with more authority than him, such as an SO to try to deal with the situation. I personally always tend to try to solve problems on the lowest level, before moving onto higher measures of deterrence.
Officers are always the people above him, so Sloan would try to do their orders without fail or hesitation, unless something else is a pressing matter. Unlawful orders are obviously to be disobeyed, but alternatives/suggestions could always be carried out. Such an example would be if an SO wanted him to repair comms by himself.
“That’s too dangerous for me Sir, but I’d be willing to do that if you could provide me with a security team of three or more” - would be a good example of this.
Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?
I would want to be a synthetic due to my extensive knowledge of Space Station 13. I’ve played normal SS13 and many other variants. A lot of free time has been sunk into this game as a whole (Proof attached). I have knowledge of many of the basics of CM13 myself, and I believe I would be an excellent fit into this community as a more “Jack-Of-All-Trades” sort of role. Many of my peers would acknowledge me as an excellent roleplayer, inspiration, and leader. I’ve been rusty in my skill to do so, but I would type out paragraph length /me’s in about a minute or two to roleplay back then (Not on CM - too fast paced). I believe if I was to be whitelisted, I could only provide enjoyment to others (and to myself).
What is your most memorable interaction with a synthetic?
At the moment, I believe my most memorable interaction with a synthetic would’ve been when aboard a hijack. At the time, myself and a few other marines were in the comms center trying to repair comms, when this Working Joe came in and repeatedly told us we shouldn’t be here and that he would report us. My character admired the way he really dedicated himself to his purpose as a Working Joe. Another would probably be with Amelia or Ceclia. Unsure on name, only that it was a female with black hair. It was on Chance’s Claim, and we (and a team of marines) were sent to go around the xenos forces to repair sensors. She claimed she wouldnt leave without security, so we provided. We didn’t get too far before getting wiped, but that rule of no security comes to mind. Another similar event was when I needed to move supplies from FOB to frontline cause CIC/REQ misplaced the crate at FOB. Another female synthetic that I can’t remember said that she would assist me in pushing the crate, but I claimed it might be dangerous - she told me not to worry and assited anyways. Sorry I can’t provide more roleplay examples, but this is what I got.
Synthetic Character Story:
“…Sloan…”
“…Sloan…!”
“…SLOAN!”
A bright flash of white shines into Sloan’s eyes as he opens them. His cyborg eyes adjust the retina to and fro, dimming the light. He turns his attention to the voice at hand. It’s one of the Colony Managers. He’s covered in sand dust from being outside. The Manager pulls down a face scarf, adjusting his sand-storm goggles before glaring with annoyed eyes at Sloan. He lights up a cigarette, smoking it as he holds a clipboard at his side. He grumbles to himself, pressing both of his hands into his shirt, adjusting his sickly beer belly and tucking the fat into the belt that barely holds his pants up.
Sloan smiles warmly at the Manager, apologizing, “Sorry Sir. I was just in power-saving mode. What do you need of me Sir?”
The manager grumbles again, before throwing a thumb behind him at the door. “The Weyland guys want to talk to you. They’re aboard a shuttle on Landing Pad 3”
Sloan shuffles slightly from his standing up-right position. He moves towards the door, taking confident steps each way. As soon as he gets to the door, the wind outside the room rushes in, blowing dust everywhere. It’s a sandstorm, but when isn’t it on this Colony? His eyes filter through the particles of sand assaulting his eyes as each grain threatens to damage his robotic components. The colony is quite deserted, with only a few members moving about around with shemaghs and dust goggles protecting themselves. They seem to be packing crates and boxes away. Sloan presses off to his destination, bootprints left in the sand as he treks fearlessly through the sandstorm.
Sloan arrives at Landing Pad 3. He presses an intercom button leading to the loading bay of one of the shuttles. He clears his throat, before saying, “Synthetic Sloan reporting to Weyland-Yutani Corporate”. He waits, but receives no response. As he’s about to press the button again to repeat his sentence, the loading bay opens. A corporate suit walks out, barely dodging the bottom deck of the shuttle with his head. He wears the almost mandatory goggles and shemagh to cover his face, in contrast to his black three-piece suit that’s slowly turning brown due to the sand sticking to it.
“Hey, sorry about that! Please, come in! The sand fucks with the intercom sometimes. I apologize!”
Sloan nods, and moves into the shuttle as the docking bay closes. It doesn’t even wait for him to be clear before it lifts, aiding his ascent into the shuttle.
The Suit gestures towards a makeshift table and two chairs in the cargo bay. The two sit down across from one another. A figure looms in the background, smoking a cigar, clearly eavesdropping on the conversation.
“Hello Sloan, my name is Carter, I’m with Weyland-Yutani, but you already knew that didn’t you?”, he laughs awkwardly.
Sloan returns his signature warm smile and nods at Carter.
“Yes, of course, otherwise I’d just think you were another well-dressed gentlemen!”, he returns the laugh to ease the atmosphere.
Carter takes off his goggles and shemagh, revealing blank spots of where the sand didn’t touch on his face. He doesn’t notice, and continues the conversation.
“Well, I’m here because we’re soon to decommission this colony. It’s not bringing in enough money from all the research, y’see. And instead of decommissioning you as well, we at Weyland-Yutani thought it’d be good for you to move on to…greener pastures!”
Sloan frowns slightly, before returning another smile, “What? You want to take me out behind the barn and Ol’ Yeller me?”, he laughs.
Carter returns another awkward laugh, adjusting his tie, “No no no! Nothing like that Sloan. We thought that we’d actually sell you over to the USCM, y’see. They need synthetics, and we decided it’d be best since they’re in the region, instead of putting you into sleep mode and traveling you to another colony which would be eon’s away.”
Sloan nods in agreement. He crosses one of his legs over the other. “Okay! Sounds like a good plan. When do I start?”
The figure emerges from the shadows behind Carter. It’s a stout, tall man with scars across his face, and an eyepatch on his eye. He smokes a cigar, puffing smoke. He adjusts it, holding it within his teeth as he extends a hand towards Sloan for a shake.
“…You can start now Sloan. Welcome to the Colonial Marines.”, he says gruffly.
Sloan returns the handshake, smiling warmly as he always does. He stands up, before incorrectly saluting the officer indoors and with his left hand.
“Sir, yes sir!”, he says enthusiastically.
The officer frowns slightly, but laughs heartily.
“…We’ll have to teach you more about military customs and courtiesies when we get aboard the Almayer.”
“Always willing and ready to learn, Sir.”
Skills:
How familiar are you in CMs support roles such as medical/engineering/requisitions/command and which of them are you more and less proficient in?
I’m familiar with all roles. My highest roles for all types are: CMO for Medical, Comtech for Engineering, CargoTech for Requisitions, and a Staff Officer for Command. I believe in terms of skill level, I would be from Highest to Lowest: Medical, Command, Engineering, and Requistions. For my weakest skill, Requisitions, I would only need to know how to manage the budget in an efficient manner and not order useless things. Otherwise, I know how to dispense items, where they are, what to order for each spec, and how to send them via coordinates/coordinate with CIC to send pads.
What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.
In a scenario aboard the USS Almayer during hijack, if the Synthetic is cornered and has no way to retreat, the synthetic can perform self defense to disable the aggressor. The synthetic should do his best then to flee once an opportunity is provided.
Another would be in the aid of a human that falls under the USCM. Not necessarily CLF or UPP. In this case, the human has been wounded and has fallen unconscious. If unable to drag said human away or get them to safety within a timely manner, the synthetic can stand their ground and defend said human through means of melee. The Synthetic should not attempt to pursue the threat, but if necessary, only a short distance (I would say 10 paces) before returning to the human to render aid.
Final Info:
Have you been banned in the last month?
No. I have not been banned in the last month.
Do you have anything else you would like to include about your application?
I would also like to brag that I was a fantastic IO with many medals during my service back in 2019,2020. I am also the original creator of Unga Juice, even though many people will not remember that. I had to get canteens myself and make each batch hand by hand.
I want to thank you for reading and for taking the time out of your day to consider me for a Synthetic Whitelist. Have a blessed day.
