should IOs become enlisted personnel

alright, lately I have been thinking about how IO as a role would fit a little better (at least rp-wise) as a 3-man team of enlisted personnel instead of poopy officers.

not only is their job stupid dangerous, but their authority as actual officers on the field is ignored most of the time, so why not make them enlisted? start them up as sgts, once u get gold you get ssgt, and once u get plat ur a gunny

Should be corporals.

also fun fact: his MOS is the same as the real one.

Yeah, I don’t see how the colonial marines would waste years training an officer just to then assign them as a fresh butter bar to whats arguably one of the most dangerous jobs in the fleet.

Corporal - no medal

sergeant - gold

staffie - plat

Biggest question. Whats the Intelligence Officers new role going to be called?

Intelligence Specialist or analyst of course.

It’s not that their job isn’t inherently dangerous, but the manner in which the game manifests makes their job especially dangerous. In real life, or at least in a more typical encounter for the USCM in the outer colonies, the intel officer’s would not be in such direct contact as they find themselves against the xeno’s. Likely, they would be talking to civilians, seeing if there’s significant CLF support among the populous, figuring out the enemies critical capabilities and critical vulnerabilities, size of CLF forces, terrain analysis, etc.

Intelligence typically does have a retinue for field deployments, but this has been relegated in CM to three guys + sometimes an extra grunt all looking for loose papers. You could perhaps explain it by the lack of support that the outer colony’s get for supplies and manpower, and that the USS Almayer just previously lost a significant amount of both of those things in Operation Tychon Tackle. But regardless, IO’s certainly can and do deploy to the field.

I agree solely to see less people being able to order arrests

this is honestly fair to say but to be real with u it doesnt translate into gameplay. If they become enlisted it would just benefit the role more imo

Excellent idea. I fully support it.

Also it’s just generally silly that staff officers are the same rank as intel “officers”. One is clearly in charge of the other

No. Why change it? IO is nice enough to say.

If you must change it…

I.E… That is… well. Thats what it is i suppose.

(Niche latin joke)

Why not let us pick between officer or enlisted in the role menu? If someone likes the officer part and doesn’t mind being ACO sometimes they can be that, or take a lead position among the IO’s. Divide the role up into two:

Specialist can be the bread and butter Corporal IO who does the grunt work collecting.

Analyst can be a shipside role, to give the ASO some breathing space because damn. This is the one where you can be an officer.

Being the same rank doesn’t mean that neither of you are in charge, your role is more important than your rank. If somebody is in charge of an operation you don’t get to just ignore them because you’re the same rank.

Intelligence Specialist, from what I can tell this is an NCO position. Intel Officers are more geared towards being Staff Officers/Advising the Commander, alongside analyzing intel and planning.

Open up 1 intel officer slot for overwatch of the intel team, and 2 or 3 NCO’s or enlisted for ground ops

Although I honestly just like IO’s as they are and don’t think there’s a pressing need to change anything here.

The corporal, sergeant/staffie bloat is a bit too much
we need to expand the enlisted ranks like why not give them rarely seen enlisted rank which are only on like synth or SEA such as from Gunnery Sergeant to Master Gunnery Sergeant or maybe even go up to Sergeant Major? I think it would give more soul to the role if it were to be switched to be enlisted, then just from a generic corporal to not even getting up to the rank of a golden squad leader, which is gunny

I advise doing those ranks in my opinion.

Staff Sergeant

Gunnery Sergeant

Master Sergeant

Fits more as NCO-SNCO ranks that are doing some special job.
