The objectively worse spec in the game, by a longshot, are the sniper specs. Both AMR and base sniper.
Yes, this includes scout being a menace against backliners with the stun to death combo.
Why?
Well, it’s because of how unengaging and uninteractive the sniper specs are as a whole.
At least with pyro and sadar, they HAVE to get close to you to land in some good shots. Pyro takes skill in terms of positioning your fire well, and sadar you have to shoot ap at the perfect time and position to get that juicy hit. Both sadar and pyro are strong AND engaging, and have counterplay. Making them good specs.
But the sniper specs? They take NO skill. There is NO risk to choosing this spec. Want to know why? They can easily camp way in the back due to iff and being able to deal damage from tremendous ranges. They are nearly COMPLETELY safe, as they are far in the back.
The only “counters” are lurkers, runners, and boilers, but they’d have to somehow attack the sniper undetected by the ball of 50 marines. Yeah, good luck. You can argue boiler is a counter, but snipers often position far enough for boilers to not even be able to hit them. Every other xeno, which is mostly designed for cqc, can do NOTHING to a sniper spec whatsoever.
They can target any tier 3 like a crusher or ravager with iff and a lot of damage, but ALSO they can STUN, SLOW YOU DOWN, OR BURN YOU. And you can’t do ANYTHING about that. You are forced to just sit there and cope and be forced to retreat way earlier when trying to even attack marines.
Such an unengaging and unfun spec. Both the sniper specs are GARBAGE.
