So I got banned for posting a meme video where two tiny, clearly satirical images from Mel Brooks’ “The Producers” (Springtime for Hitler: A Gay Romp With Adolf and Eva at Berchtesgaden) show up for about two seconds. It’s an anti-Nazi comedy made by a Jewish WWII vet who literally spent his life mocking fascists. Pretty obvious context, right?
Instead of anyone asking what it was or just telling me to take it down, I get an instant ban. No DM, no warning, nothing.
That’s the kind of logic that would ban someone for quoting 1984 or stills from Starship troopers and call it a “dog whistle” because they only watch Transformers and Fast & Furious movies.
What makes it, let’s say, “surprising” is that the CM Discord itself has images on official posts showing actual historical fascists, under the name of the person in charge of the discord moderation, and actual images of Nazis modified to be a meme on whitelist announcements. So I guess the rules depend on who’s posting them? That’s inconsistent at best, hypocritical at worst.
And for extra irony, literally minutes before the ban I was in chat talking about how left-wing I am, criticising right-wing politics, and have a history pushing for inclusion in both the game and community. Some of the very rules I pushed for The idea that I’m pushing Nazi stuff is laughable and would have been shown to be that if they did the bare minimums of scrolling up or look at literally the last few messages I wrote in the same discord thread.
Those of me who know me OOCly are already laughing at how ridiculous this is due to how ridiculous it would be to think this is “nazi propaganda” and that I of all people would be engaging it in. (like a turkey supporting Christmas)
The reaction was way over the top and completely lacked communication. A quick message would’ve sorted it in seconds.
But yes, the disabled, disability and inclusion activist who is in a relationship with a person of colour…is secretly working on propaganda for the very people who would delete me and members of my family from existence
Sort the consistency of enforcement and your enforcement policies out because this was clearly poorly handled, if you don’t want to do the bare minimum as a volunteer? Don’t volunteer.
I’ll post the screenshots and video Sunday, as I’m currently going out with my partner for halloween. I’m sure she’ll get a tickle out of how dumb this situation is too.
