Some sentries need a rework

Title. There are some sentries that are… really suboptimal and could use buffs or a rework.

Plasma Sentry

This upgrade is actual hot garbage. I thought it was the blue fire sentry, but nope, that’s the base flamer sentry. It shoots fire that is weaker then blue fire, AND covers the line of sight in smoke, which acts as a diet boiler gas. And this is an UPGRADE to the blue fire sentry. I think the plasma sentry needs a complete rework as a whole, it’s supposed to be an UPGRADE that costs you 15 points, yet it turns the best sentry pick in the game into the worst one. Why.

Mini Flamer Sentry

The main problem with this one is the fire is weaker. Sure it fires faster, but xenos aren’t gonna be constantly rushing a single cadeline. They’ll coordinate together, rest, and repeat. And well the fire is weaker, so the usefulness of the mini flamer sentry is very limited, unless there’s a runner who really loves to bash cades for some reason.

I’m not quite sure how to rework this one, but it’s still werid to me that an upgrade is kilometers worse then its base form (the base flamer sentry).

Shotgun Sentry

CQC sentries are risky, as tier 3s can outdps the sentries and shred them. Hivelords can wall off shotgun sentries easily as well. I think shotgun sentry should have a bit more range and be super scary, like a buckshot shotgun kind of deal and essentially force the hands of tier 3s.

The rest of the sentries I’d say are fine. What are your thoughts?

there will be full sentrygun rework, yes. When? No idea, it will be a lot of work and there is a lot of stuff being worked on already. How, no idea thwomp will figure something out, I imagine sentry to be its own kit similar to brute or satchel charges or the other stuff and it might get coded, be it by me or someone who gets time for it.

Plasma sentry sucks balls yeah, it should leave basically a grenade of fire, rather then just smoke, but then again that could fuck over cades and such if it’s dropped near them.

Mini Flamer, honestly no idea this sentry even exists, never see it used, so no idea really.

Shotgun - Make this Sentry 360 and it’s fixed.

The default flamer sentry is the uncontested king for the flamer family of sentries but the mini flamer has its uses. It’s not bad; it’s just that people done use it

-You can walk through it
-It fires pretty fast
-The fire lasts maybe 2 seconds on the ground
-Deploy/disassemble speed is fast af

All these together make it pretty good for pushes + xenos have to fall back to extinguish themselves because they’re actively burning + not healing (being on fire prevents healing) so its pretty good to keep pressure

Plasma sentry sucks more than a single mother trying to pay rent though, mostly because it shoots a ball of white phosphorus. It used to have a tile of blue flame in the middle of wp tho but even with that it still sucks

After the last plasma sentry thread I used base flamer and Jesus Christ it’s a menace. Support with sandbags, move with the push, and until I got capped it got two kills and stalled out a dozen screeches because it’d nail a Rouny and force the other bugs to go pat it and shield for retreat as it nearly instantly melted.

The main issue with Mini-Flamer sentry is you are sacrificing the extremely powerful stock-flamer sentry to get it, so it feels like you are paying to lose.

The ‘smoke puff the magic dragon’ sentry’s only redeeming use case is putting it behind 3 cadelines in a flank nobody cares about and hooking it up to a beepy laptop, or deep inside a dark corner of FOB to ruin a random burrower’s day (as it cannot turn FOB ammo into a big funny unlike the other flamer sentries)

So alternate sentry idea here. What if they couldn’t get upgraded and remained base sentries, no flame sentries and instead they were reduced in number, buffed in damage against low armor, be a bitch to set up and move and only face one direction. That way they can provide adequate area denial while being vulnerable from the flanks. Along with that thingy where you can’t put many close to each other you’d get soul colonial Marines vibe.

Bruh you’d rather there be an impassable checkpoint that vaporized every xeno to enter? That wasn’t a very helpful response

yes I want us to be able to stack four guns to instantly shred xenos to pieces if they enter the killzone. I want this unironically I think it would be kino and I want to see it in my lifetime (DON’T TALK TO ME ABOUT PVE)
