A lot of salt in CM has been because a death especially as marine meant being out of the game until you either joined as a xeno (60% of the marines have never touch a xeno in their lives) or wait for ERTs and that if you get lucky. I think it is a problem that we don’t have something to do ig after perma death.
Hence I am here to discuss what I would like to see in CM after death. I think it needs to be said from the start, whatever that may be it needs to be automated so that we won’t need an admin every second to supervise it.
My idea is: Afterlife bar. A normal bar with infinite booze except that all in it are dead and hence cannot again die or be hurt (yes you can drink infinite booze). Basically a huge bar with multiple bar tables for highpop where the dead can join to have a drink and pass the time until they get called for ERT or xeno spawn. There’s like 3 bar tables that make a square with chairs around em and in the middle there’s another table with the booze vendors and whatnot, maybe a sink and so forth. Each table will have a player bartender.
Edit: inside the bar there will be no need to keep RP rules since it’ll be practically D-chat
What if we had a sort of gun range for ghosts. You spawn in with all skills maxed and a vendor for each factions guns and 1 vendor with all attachments. This would allow players who get very little play time with specialists or even smartgunner to learn the basic quirks of the weapons. This also means we can get a chance to get used to non-uscm guns for the rare event or ERT.
You could go as far as to make some sort of thunderdome type arena where 2 sides could fight. Maybe each side could get a terminal they could use to vote on what faction they want to be.
TGMC has this, but their server has a smaller playerbase; the only reason CM doesn’t, is because it would lag the server for the alive players. I think this was stated already here by an admin or whoever
Giving people a chance to learn new roles after death would be cool; making a TDOME or something would be great too. I might be speaking out of my ass, but I don’t believe it would lag the server? I mean I saw the current tdome being debated for that reason a long time ago and devs said they confirmed it wasn’t lagging anything.
If this is pulling inspiration from the Cyberpunk Afterlife bar, this could also be a good place to name drinks or create some kind of memento honoring infamous players, their actions, or those who are no longer with us.
I saw someone suggest making a museum/hall of fame somewhere on the ship at some point, don’t know what ever happened with that.
every time you respawn a guy it lags the server
spawning replacement loot lags the server
explosives lag the server
shitcode checks on mob states also lag the server
tdome with 50 people in it will lag the server more than if 50 of these + 50 others played regular cm simultaneously
why? because tdome encourages being a dumbass and dying more as such more respawns happen, lagging the server more
I’ve seen admins fuck around heavily in the thunder dome and I haven’t noticed any lag. we shouldn’t dismiss things for potential lag when you haven’t tested it in practice.
A month or two ago, someone was running PvE marines in tdome. These marines had an extreme amount of ammo in a stack and someone accidentally dropped a flame nade on them.
The server hamster had like a heart attack and the game lagged out hard.
Other than extreme cases though, I don’t think its ever been that bad.
if you are capable of recovering 60 fucking ID tags from the field after the xenos push the front, you deserve to become the scourge of a military cemetary
