Why do you wish to become a Fax Responder?

I wish to become a Fax Responder to help increase the quantity and quality of RP options available to players on the server. Fax Responder in particular strikes my interest in this regard because currently players often don’t fax as they feel they are just faxing into the void. Becoming a Fax Responder would help players feel that the effort they put into aspects of RP, such as faxes do get acknowledged. This would also help give players the feeling that there are other organizations in the setting that they could engage with for RP and not just the players immediately around/on the ship.

What do you consider the purpose of this role?

In my mind, there are two aspects of this role, creating and supporting RP opportunities within a round.

By creating RP opportunities, this is why the Fax Responder can send faxes of their own initiative and not solely respond to faxes they get. At its simplest, this can take the form of asking for an operational update from CIC/CL/MPs. While a simple ask, the act of trying to get the details needed to write the report could make an individual (particularly if asked of someone outside of CIC) aware of potential scenarios they would want to detail or report on.

In a more targeted form, this can take the form of acting the role of editor for the Combat Correspondent and giving them a specific idea for a story, if it seems like they are looking for something to do. It could also take the form of seeing that the CL has sent a standard “awake and standing by,” fax and coming up with something for them to do that is RP focused.

Supporting RP opportunities is the other side of this coin. If, for example, the CL/CC/Etc have sent faxes that makes it seem like they have a clear idea of what they want to do/RP this round then instead of trying to make them change course/do what I thought up, then I would instead act in a way where I support/add to their RP.
For example, if the CC sends in a news article I would then try and play the role of an editor. Providing feedback on the article. This doesn’t always mean I’d just rubber stamp it, I could as editor ask for additional information or edits, but I would never shoot down the idea or tell them to stop their course of action (if it seemed like they were on the verge of a rule break only then would I dissuade them.)

To answer the question that has been asked on every other application and which I assume would be asked anyways:

When the question arises as to whether to use the phone, I would have to make a judgement as to whether I can send an urgent fax as opposed to the phone call and the main determinations in these cases would be:

  1. Is the individual able to quickly notice/action on a new fax?

  2. Is there anyone else I could fax instead?

  3. How time sensitive is this?

So, if we take a scenario of say getting a fax out of the blue from an individual saying they are going to the kill the CL:

  1. Is the individual able to quickly notice/action on a new fax?

a) Is the CL currently sitting at or within eyesight of a fax machine? If yes then send a brief, urgent fax which is clearly/labelled as urgent.

  1. Is there anyone else I could fax instead?

a) If the CL isn’t currently near a fax machine or with the ability to be made aware of/read the fax, are there other options? For example, the CL may be busy having a meeting or otherwise engaged, but if there are numerous MPs sitting around in the brig near the central fax machine can I send them a fax about the threat? This would also serve the benefit of engaging more players into the RP scenario.

  1. How time sensitive is this?

a) If the threat doesn’t seem like it is going to occur imminently (or if I use cameras to investigate it doesn’t look like a serious/in progress threat), then I have more time to send faxes to try and get the message through to someone (CL/MPs/CIC etc.). If, however, it seems like the CL needs to be made aware immediately and that no one would be able to see a fax/action on it in time, then a phone call would be warranted.
