Survs should spawn already nested by xenos, that way the only thing they can do is RP.
I think the issue pointed out about trijent dam isn’t about it being hard but being the same every time. Not much to run for so there’s no variety. Van works only with a synth(add some headlights and we’re in business though), checkpoint holds become “can we find the checkpoint the drone didn’t slap” which is fine but most folks will gravitate to elevator because it just works.
Take soro for example. There’s metal, booze, guns, armour, shocked doors at a good hold spot. Because of the shockable doors you need a power cell, this makes engineers/synths even more of a HVT for xenos so you’ve got all this stuff to work with that makes the hold fun. Trijent you can just seal yourself within the elevator cadeline and yeet molotovs.
Overall survs are almost where they should be, a few map tweeks here and there and you’re good. After that we just gotta stop people hiding.
I will say that adding more factional survivor groups would be absolutely amazing from my perspective.
What a god! Those xenos were not prepared for a protagonist to walk on in. They had it all, solid guns, goon armour (post nerfed), thermals and a can do attitude. Xenos didn’t stand a chance off weeds against ‘em!
Robust survs are genuinely a sight to behold, if you get one on the team the game changes on a dime. You can see half the xenos there just crumple trying to get away and that one warrior that just says no and fucking leaves.
Survivor is a shit role atm because what makes it fun is the people you’re playing it with. It had a renaissance in early 2022 not because of the huge amount of nerfs the role ate, but because 70% of the surv player base was in a metacord coordinating when to roll and what dumb strat to try this time.
We had dudes like Daboza and Brad doing shit like the centipede and funny doors. What wacky tactic have you seen survs do? The last time I tried to do something out of left field, the other surv with me intentionally left me to die being perma stunned by a sent.
When is the last time you saw survs doing a sleep over hold on LV? Pod hold on science annex? Or a plateau hold outside of the hive on Kutjevo? You literally don’t see anything.
The surv role sucks because there’s no iteration, there’s no attempt at boundary push. More importantly, there’s no community anymore.
Why aren’t dudes holding research as surv on LV? Imagine how easy of a hold that is until the shutters are melted. Why not hold a 2 tile gap of poop water on Trijent? It would be funny af.
Too many dudes are afraid of dying as surv, honestly just make it so you can respawn as a pfc or maint tech or something as surv after like 15-20min and ban locker hiders. This lets dudes actually just play the role and try to experiment without the fear of missing out on the round while also making it so you don’t need to worry about meta info really mattering.
Kind of cheating when the xenos are playing poorly by playing off-weeds, using the borderline OP UPP SMG, plus the thermal + night vision gear.
I mean, I’d play survivor a helluva lot more if I could consistently get thermals, a UPP SMG and xenos playing off weeds.
good music choice
After almost 7 years of playing survivor, now I mostly play survivor if I really like the map, or if my metabuddy is rolling. Funny thing is we’ll do the same things we did in 2019/2020 without a problem. Its got nothing to do with nerfs or anything, but its got everything to do with the playerbase.
I can remember 10+ names of the people who made my experiences back when I was still a bit new to survivor my most memorable experience on CM, and to them I say thank you. Unfortunately, now most of the people are just focused on making it past the 20 minute mark in the hopes that marines are going to defiblirate their dead body.
In extension to what c4xmaniac said, it feels at times for me that nobody wants to play the role with any aspiration anymore, if that makes sense…
I havent seen a Fort Bicep hold, have not seen panic room hold, not seen a Shivas admin hold, or lifeboat to name a few. If you hop on survivor, you are basically guaranteed to be told to go to x or y spot, “optimized” for survival closest to the LZ, with Rwalls, a line of cades, and a booze dispenser and paper.
When I play with my metabuddy, I can do the funny things we used to do many years ago, but unfortunately now those ideas are basically dead for the most part unfortunately. Survivor at this point is just trying to remember old faces who stop by once a blue moon, or play the role with my metabuddy until the role is probably going to be very negatively changed with all this negative reception from a lack of try.
The role is not in a odd place, the playerbase unfortunately is. All the LZ holding being rewarded destroyed the role, untill it was removed and the dozen things nobody did because everyone was busy holding garage or the LZ was buried and deemed “silly” or “out of date”.
Amen bro, they have optimized the fun and soul out of the role. You could give these current surv players the equivalent of a mongoose and a rocket launcher and they’d use it to make a cade line in a corner near the LZ.
I think you could make survivors better if the maps were specifically designed for it without necessarily giving them a crap load of supplies. Let’s say you have a military outpost or prison type area on a map. You can do the standard thing and give it an armory full of riot gear and shotguns, but then I’d go and make all the entrances have blast doors/shutters. Then I’d go and add some deployable sentries.
This may sound like just giving the survivors a fortress, but you can make it so these things are speed bumps on their own. Make it so the blastdoors have a fairly short timer once melted, 2-3 minutes each, and make it so the turrets only have 100 rounds or so and can easily be drained of ammo. But make the prison large enough that survivors have to defend multiple areas and can’t sit in one static location so they’ll have to respond to xenos breaking in.
I think this could be actually fun for xenos because they’ll have something to do because it might be more than "weed area so we can heal faster and drain their ammo for when the T3s and hopefully get them before the marines land nearby. " Currently, survivor holds are fully static and really come down to how much supplies they brought.
God I miss pre-gas Kutjevo
it was actually good (and a little busted)
but now it’s SHIT
Thank fuck it’s gone. It was just depressing being one of maybe 3 xenoes who went and tried to siege what was basically a FOB with 6-7 guys in it, since nobody wants to interact with that hellhole.
I do not think that is ever going to happen. Could be cool.
As a oldy survivor main(who doesn’t survivor anymore) what really killed the role for me was the gutting of engineering, shock dooring is a joke now, walls are like paper consider most natural map walls are just normal walls, and most things(like cabinets) are breakable, I miss the creativity of working with the environment that you don’t really get to experience as a marine because Unga’s want line of sight, and the majority of unga’s ruin a memey engineer setup.
Personally I think xeno breaching gameplay has been made too simple and acid has been made to redundant, but that’s a completely different topic.
as a xeno, to potentially lose your life to survivors and not get the respawn is not worth it IMO.
how’s a 30~45 minute respawn?
If xenos were guaranteed a 5 minute respawn within the first 25~ minutes of the game, assuming they’re not fighting against marines, yeah, maybe as xeno I’d go for survivor… assuming I’m not wasting time I should be spending on building defenses.
I have not played survivor but there’s no “escape” so to speak.
just “don’t die” and if you do… well that was your life.
No de-cryo, no “respawn as xeno.”
So 45 minute xeno respawn, potentially 1 hour human respawn.
Considering, yeah Marines get 1 life, but you are not marine so…
I cannot invest the time needed to PR potential changes for this, so just thoughts… unsure if anyone agrees; going to read the whole thread after replying.
wdym van works only with a synth. just get trucker surv, clf surv, goon surv, miner surv, engi surv.
they all have vehicle skill to operate vans
They don’t have eyes to see where the van is going
Civilian vehicles currently lack headlights which I’m told is a bug. Meaning you can’t navigate the map unless you also get night vision goggles, which I’m not even sure are on a map with civilian trucks/vans. Currently the best you can do is hope you have someone highly robust to stay outside the vehicle and act as it’s light source.
One thing I am very against, is people (such as queens) choosing for others, and not letting people hunt survs especially.
Anyone who says it’s not worth it while playing queen, is using the “new/unskilled players” argument, whereas new players shouldn’t be allowed to do difficult things because they might die. However, that’s just how u learn and get better, by challenging yourself.
It is ultimately the choice of the individual imo, and the impact on the round is a non-issue.
(its also just fun. go fight survs a ton it is fun to fight them even if u flounder.)
If u have died (made mistakes) lots in a complex situation, u eventually get the perspective u need to get better. If u die in a easy situation (made mistakes) over and over, you are gimping yourself and gain no new perspective.
ofc if the simple situation is complex depends on the person playing. But i generally think this idea holds true, with complex things becoming simple and understandable things over time.
Before marines land, almost noone is in queue. You will have a free respawn eventually. Just drone rush and build up the skill to hunt survs, and it’s fun + good practice after that.
Granted, I haven’t played highpop xeno roundstart in months now… so idk how the queues looking. If its anything like it was before tho, it should be perfectly fine to die roundstart.
After all, if you can’t become confident in killing survs which are generally very weak and only potentially carried by their skill and/or cheese, how will you fare against good marine players in general, who have all the resources, supplies, and teammates needed to own u?
Ofcourse, it is still your choice, and that is fine. But noone needs to be afraid of survivors imo. Getting over the fear of survs is a great way to get over the fear of good marines in general tbh.
After all, u gotta know when and how u can win a fight in order to beat a player whos on their game, and fighting survs helps u learn when u can do that, become more consistent at doing that, and work under adrenaline where ur mouse movements might be harder.
