Currently, XO is able to run down to medical and work chems, and make IMalky, MB, (Etc) and stock it. however, ASO cannot.
it feels far more logical for ASO to be able to work the ‘support’ task and aid in medical, and XO focus on command.
While this might feel ? There are, actual low-pop cases (2am to 8am EST) Where, the XO genuinely is the only person on ship who can make chems, work req, and everything else. low pop is where ASO shines. Lowpop ASO has to actually manage the multiple aspects of its support-oversight role. This change would just shift the chem tasks out of XO (whom is confusing to even have chem making skills to begin with) onto ASO.
Very, but I’ve mostly accepted oddities like this just because CM needs to function on lowpop and it’s vaguely in the XO’s field of responsibilities. More ridiculous things exist in CM than an XO knowing how to do chemistry.
problem is most rounds there isn’t a CO, or the CO is dead, not even accounting for low pop, on such rounds, XO is THE big boss, they can’t really micro manage at all because someone has to lead the op
I feel the ASO should be split back into different roles. They wanted someone that could do all the shipside support shit when instead they should of added an officer to manage the pilots/DCC
My proposal? We kill the ASO, bring back the RO, promote the CE back up to their old rank (Or give some rank scaling to the RO and CE from WO to 1st Lt)
Then add a SMO (Spacecraft Maintenance Officer since Aircraft Maint officer is a real person in the USMC) and the SMO directs DCCs what to do, solve disputes between the pilots. (A good SMO should still let the pilots choose their loadouts, maybe has a role lockout of 10 hours of both GP and DP) but also works with medical, so they can work the chem machines if medical is shortstaffed or do other medical things as well
While also managing intel that comes in, bodies, etc.
