Synth Quirk Ideas

I’ve been brainstorming some synth quirk ideas, and since I’ve already decided on which one I’ll use in the future, I thought I’d share what I’ve thought of, instead of forgetting them. Feel free to contribute your own ideas (that you don’t intend to use yourself, of course). Some of these could use some further development and more quirk given to them to be made into a full-fledged synth personality.

Banquo - Shakespearean-style synth, name from Macbeth. Would act dramatically, attempting to work in some quotes from plays and speaking at length, in a classic, maybe even monologue style.

Bismarck - Victorian aristocratic style, would be rather pompous and consider higher ranking staff as equally ‘landed’, while the lower ranks would be seen more like servants. Maybe would need to be tuned down a little and not be mean obviously

Dutch / Morgan / etc - Inspired from Red Dead Redemption, wild western outlaw style. Mostly just about the outfit style, not totally sure about how easy it would be to characterize. Code of ethics? ‘I have a plan!’? maybe a slight distaste for authority?

Harrier / Kim - Inspired by Disco Elysium, washed-up detective style. Think, ‘what would the skills be saying’? Investigative, volatile. If you don’t know this game, you should totally watch some videos of it. It’s great.

Passepartout - Inspired by Jules Verne’s Around the World in Eighty Days (but also by Fogg himself), acts very professionally, like a valet, suit and white gloves. Would be stoic and a little reserved, but also adventurous, commenting on features of the map.

More gimmicky ones:
Caladog - Celtic Warrior. Name from M&B Bannerlord, violent, untamed. First synth to not wear a shirt? Lol. Nature-loving, medieval!
Churchill - Based off Winston Churchill. Loves to smoke and drink, delivers speeches, unbreakable resolve.
Connor (obviously would need a new name) - The android Synth sent by cyberlife Seegson (or W-Y). Representative of synthkind, with a dark deviant side.
Danse - Paladin Danse from Fallout 4. Not the best idea I’ve had.

Let me know what you guys think :+1:

Honestly I feel like the overwhelming majority of quirks just don’t actually translate well to the reality of rapid-fire CM gameplay. Synth gameplay is mostly Doctor-Engineer roles on steroids, crack cocaine and lethal doses of fentanyl. It’s like synth gameplay is almost hostile to roleplay.

90% of the time synths are trapped on surgery, which disincentivises smalltalk, or engineering (which does the same thing). Talking to a synth feels like you’re basically knocking out half the batallion’s support capability temporarily and I suspect when synths stop and talk planetside, they feel the same way.

There’s a few people who somehow manage to keep a recognisable character consistently throughout the round, but man. I reckon if we erased any requirement for a synth personality, there just wouldn’t be a noticeable difference.
