Description of the incident:

Hello

Valery Sokolov is one of my several characters who I have put a decent amount of thought into job preferences and overall personality/attitudes. After spending a lot of time as HM which is by far my favorite role, I wanted to try and take him on a long road play through where the next goal is to do a whole nurse run and then after that DCC which will likely lead to doctor. Medic → Nurse → Flight Med → Doctor. I just figured that would be an interesting semi realistic MRP type of thing to do. Now I’m not going to get into a lot of the issues I think there are with the Nurse role, as I’ve now put about 140 hours into it, but lets just say that yes there is a lot of downtime in the role, and I would put it on par with Maint Tech, or Mess Tech in terms of need/use.

As a very experienced corpsman, now on a hospital rotation, my big shtick is to be the inpatient coordinator/receptionist of the medbay, because patient interaction training is lacking as a combat medic, and as an ex con they don’t trust him as much to do bigger things. I sit there, I watch the crew monitor which is important since the medbay statics don’t form a chair circle around the lobby crew monitor anymore, I open the doors for patients (Which I’m so happy they finally added door buttons to the desk after about 120 hours in this position), and I interact with people who actually come to the front glass and want to have verbal interactions instead of just mechanically unga go medbay unga go back war. I find I have had a lot of very amusing interactions with people who actually seek it. Most of all I play as a lower backbone, where as a Nurse you certainly can’t do enough to help everyone, but if things are going to shit, or doctors are incompetent, I certainly try my best to get things sorted for people and will even send faxes out to high command/provost if things are really bad to try and get some help so marines can finally get medical attention. Rarely I make chems for people late into the round when no one else is making chems, because I’m very slow and not great at it still. I try to respond to all shipside emergencies and mass cas events to the best of my abilities. I try to help evac as much as I can medically, like a corpsman.

Now there are two things the character will begrudgingly do, as he feels they are beneath him, and also “not his department”. That is drag bodies from the dropships. “I don’t work for research” and “I’m not on a morgue shift”. This is a common headbutt but if someone of appropriate rank or position tells him to do it, he will do it. When things are requested I generally don’t jump up to do it because chances are someone else will, but if no one else is, then yes I will do it. Which here in line is part of the problem with Nurse, which is relevant to the issue. Doctors will rip patients out of your hands like you wouldn’t believe, the amount of times I finally have something to do as a nurse usually immediately gets ended by a doctor sprinting over and just YOINK. Alright, back to my desk then I guess. I could be in the middle of trying to fix someone’s IB, the one surgery I actually can do as a nurse and I’ve had a doctor come and rip the patient away mid surgery. To drive the point even further, it seems like a lot of people just immediately go for hacking doors and vending machines to even get past dealing with other people because that “takes too long”.

There is a lot of downtime. There is a LOT of downtime in this role.

Which brings me to, I’m not really understanding why I am just “wasting a slot”. I can only assume some player for some reason got upset for who knows what/why. I don’t know why it’s now a problem after 130-140 hours, I don’t know why it’s a problem on a job role that is relatively unnecessary(arguably low tier easily), kicked aside, and 9/10 times I’m the only nurse or second nurse so it’s not a maxed out role. I play my character in an MRP fashion, I perform actions when I actually have the ability/opening to do so, I interact and try to provide a medbay talking experience that the doctors are usually too busy to provide, and I step up to the plate when things get really crazy.

I received an Admin PM from NessiePendragon, asking if I was still here as it was round end. I replied yes and was told that they had received a report that I did nothing the entire round. I’m already against this as I joined the round somewhere at the 20-35 minute round time range (Very fast round that only last 1:10ish?), and on my path to set my character up with his usual loadout, immediately encountered a dying genetic damaged OT, to which I helped them and set up the cryo tube that still wasn’t set up. I then finished getting my character set up, and started my shift. Interactions were minimal for this round, but I did interact with at least 2-3 other people that I can remember. Certainly not the other OT who kept wheeling his purple tank into the medbay, doing a circle without saying anything and then immediately wheeling back out. But definitely the person who had come out of surgery and then gifted me a bottle of Tequila from the colony for the medbay to keep doing what they’re doing. This already puts it at least two people I interacted with. Nessie had told me beyond doing nothing I apparently did not react to anyone around me. When I informed them that I interacted with at least a few people, they also told me that I only interacted with “1” person at the beginning of the round and that I “didn’t even notice I was hungry” so that I must not be doing anything.

Already I’m being told that my recollection of interactions was wrong, and that it’s somehow an indicator that with the UI mode I use, not noticing the lime green stomach icon in the far corner of my screen turning yellow that I’m not paying attention or actively playing the game. They told me that they “heard” I was doing the same thing previous rounds. Was there any evidence or investigation of this? Or was it just he/she said?

They also informed me that since it was “such a busy medbay round” that I should have been doing things. This brings me back to the Nurse role problem. That entire round was almost nothing but hugged marines, and while it was a LOT of them for such a short round, we also had quite the stack of doctors who were tending to the patients as fast as they could. I can’t do anything for hugged marines, a lot of marines point at me and think I’m a doctor, or that I have the capability to do so, I don’t. So when the halfish section of the round I participate in is nothing but hugged marines, what is the expectation? Doctors are already on the patients, I am opening the medbay doors for people who don’t have access so they can get the patients to the doctor. Was I supposed to somehow do the surgery as well? To me this just really tells me that I shouldn’t be playing a character as I have per MRP requirements, and instead should be playing LRP, with just a name, and only focusing on the absolute mechanics.

This is where I’m flabbergasted and at a loss, because I feel I was railroaded in the questioning, there was very little investigation done, and it seemed like there was a decision made before I was even approached, purely based on a he said/she said and no observation at all; and I was immediately informed I was going to be noted for such. Absolutely at a loss, after being informed I was being noted and told to not waste slots while trying to drive my point further, yes I will agree “Yeah sure dog” is a snarky reply, albeit I feel that’s as light as one can be in this situation beyond just “taking it”. I am willing to take something for that as I fully understand, but seven days for that seems incredibly overzealous.

I have spent a lot of time on this server, and have been playing since 2018, to say that THIS is my FIRST note and ban seems a bit crazy to me. I believe Nessie’s actions should be looked into, as I don’t believe any of this is in the spirit of the server, or it’s health, and I don’t believe the punishments were proper in any way.
