Tewi1 - Moderator Application

Moderator Application - Tewi1

What is your BYOND key?

Tewi1

What is your Discord username?

notfunny.

What characters do you play on CM-SS13?

Bella Lopits, Freya A.W. Gladius

Are you 18 or older?

Yes

Timezone:

GMT-3+

On average, how many hours are you available to moderate in an average week?

Although I might be a person with quite a busy schedule on most of the days of the week. Since I have a job and other obligations I am to fullfill as a person before any sort of recreation or hobby. I’m confident I could moderate atleast 3-2 hours per day of the week.

Qualifications:

Do you have previous experience in game or community moderation?

Notable experiences i have had. Was being a moderator in the foundation 19 server, being a moderator for an Aliens Vs Predator community server. And if it counts I have been a gamemaster for several DND games I have hosted with my friends.

Provide any links to any previous CM-SS13 whitelist, mentor or staff applications:

N/A

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on CM-SS13?

No.

Can you actively engage and communicate with the team through Discord?

Yes. I fairly believe I’m able to. Usually I don’t take long at all to reply unless I’m busy with things concerning my responsibilitys of my life.

Final Details:

Why would you like to join the CM-SS13 staff team?

CMSS13 always has been an important hobby of mine. I think it’s a great community, and it has given me laughs, entertainment, and the opportunity to meet and socialize with wonderful people that share the same interest as me. It has been giving me a lot, and I think I feel I need to give something back to it.

And I would like to return what it gave to me, as in contributing to the community by maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone to keep engaging in. I think it’s important for an overall vibe to be kept for people to not feel as if the game is “no longer fun” or “good.” And I would like to aid with that, just like many of you are doing at the moment.

What makes you a great addition to Staff? (Experienced Tabletop DM, Aliens Lore Buff, Super Organized, etc.?)

I work in a customer complaint position at my workplace IRL, and I’m able to maturely handle and tackle various issues that the person might have without any sort of pressure or loss of confidence generating on me. I’m someone who’s also very fair and doesn’t judge until they have listened to all sides of the story. And I as well think I’m a person who pays a lot of attention to detail and likes keeping things organized.

I happen to be well versed in Aliens lore, having read a lot of the comics that the franchise has released, amongst other media like the technical manual and the Alien RPG. I wouldn’t call myself someone super knowledgeable on everything. But I know massively about the universe’s setting and worldbuilding. Even to some minor aspects to a good degree.

In your opinion, what is the most important quality of a CM-SS13 staff member?

The ability to be patient and understand someone’s true intentions behind their actions. Moderators are to always make it feel as if they truly are paying attention to the player’s words and feelings and not just act as a “judge” who will punish them directly for an infraction they have committed, and there’s no forgiveness anymore. No, doing that would be incorrect, and it would be unfair. As long as the person has not gone too far, one’s secondary duty as a community staff member is to incentivize and encourage people to self-improve so they don’t commit said mistakes in the future. There’s always room for change as long as the person is willing to and isn’t acting in bad faith.

I must note as final input that another quality is not being overly emotional. As that can turn what would have been a proper course of action into something blown off proportion.

Anything else you want to add?

I think medium rare is the best temperature range you can cook a steak at.

Tewi is awesome! They have a solid grasp of how this game and community functions, and a solid head on their shoulders. Not once have I seen them lose their composure over events in game or on the Discord server. It’s clear that they have a lot of love for this game and its community - it stands to reason that they would be an excellent fit for the moderation team.

+1 from me

Tewi1 may be a relatively new addition to the server by CM standards, but from the interactions I’ve had with their characters IC, they’re certainly one of the rare players that takes roleplay seriously and actively engages with it (even if their tracker inevitably ends up in the hive 80% if the time.)

I haven’t seen them crash out, and in addition I think their past experiences make them an absolute no brainer for a staff position.
Having been a mod in 2 seperate servers is nice, but having real experience in customer support is a big plus- God knows the kinds of people you’d have to deal with while remaining professional there.

Overall, big +1!
Goodluck, I think you’ll do well! You have a great resume (for an unpaid volunteer position ), you’re a good player, and I genuinely believe you like the server and want to make it a more enjoyable place.

One end note I have though, is to be a bit mindful of being too overzealous. I have a feeling LRP activity is going to be an ick for you (based off interactions in-game, e.g. briefing with delta :smiling_face_with_tear:), but if you really go after it, you’ll end up noting pretty much everyone besides like 5 consistently HRP truthers. Maybe it’s a good thing to change the server zeitgeist, maybe not- But players do get pretty angry over seemingly innocuous notes, especially if the other staff members usually let it slide.

trust me, no significant leaning either way but pretty much the last paragraph of what Basil said is something I’d reiterate and I notice too

some people do really care about their characters and RP, just…not when we’re job simming also

Edit: I feel like I wasn’t like. Clear or was too critical. I admire the level of RP input you give on Gladius and how good a hold of Alien AW lore and feel you have; she IS an AW through and through in the way Alien would have it. I respect that but I know you’ve had some comments about other people’s RP in dchat (you’re entitled to this!); I just don’t want there to be conflating that 1:1 Alien lore RP is required. People will be off-brand a little but it’s okay. And people will be very swept up into whatever their job roles are without much to show about who their character is, and that’s also okay. It doesn’t mean people haven’t thought it out. Some of the most get-to-it characters in-round have some of the most interesting flavor text and character records.

What do you think about your permaban on PvE CM13?

Greetings! I understand some of the comments I might have made about rp which from my part were ironical but I likely shouldn’t do them either. But thank you for the feedback either way! I don’t want everyone to be HRP or anything, if anything I would expect the minimum from them so they aren’t goofy? Sorta I don’t know how to explain it. But I believe most players in CM are decently good at roleplay and most of them are genuinely fun to interact with. Not everybody might like roleplaying so I understand why others put effort and other’s dont. After all CM is a mixed bag, of liking it for the frags or the atmosphere and universe! And even then there are reasonable scenarios where roleplay can’t be met like groundside etc. At the end of the day everybody’s preferences in regards to their RP level should be respected as long as they don’t go fully LRP.

Greetings Nessie! And I hope you’re enjoying your day.

As for that, excuse my oversight here. I probably should have stated that in my application. Thought I was unsure if bans from other servers needed to be clarificated. But since it counts as an official fork, it was my bad call in forgetting it.

To be honest? I don’t really seem to be “mad” Or “Frustrated” While most people experience a sense of slight anger or discontent when a moderation action of that degree is taken against them. And I do admit I might have felt those feelings at the start. I simply accepted eventually what was done for the reasons they were done.

If anything it wasn’t something done against me it instead was for my own good. But I firmly believe that the person on the other end whenever they get moderated. They should take it as something to use as a learning point. More of so as an opportunity for growth and not something they should feel spite for. It’s a pat in the back that says “Hey there’s limits.”

And this ban which was primarily for the reason of rp-standards. It made me reflect on things I was doing incorrectly. It made me realize that when writing a character while personal creativity might be respected, you have to pay attention to other’s feelings about said character. Which in my case came off as unrealistic and not abiding to the setting cause they had a medical condition that would inmediately disqualify them from service. And also a stutter that was quite prominent.

As of now I’m also writing a rp-guide for pvp in good faith to help some who might be clueless with certain roleplay aspects. Just to clear up some stuff.

It made me realize my flaws that instead of writing “super quirky” Characters with gimmicks so they come off as supposedly well written and interesting. No I shouldn’t be doing that. So I came to the realization that I should write people. Cause that’s what genuinely characters are they’re people in different settings and such. But they should still be realistical to not affect other’s vibes. So those characters aren’t taken as disruptive.

And I wanna genuinely improve and then improve. And my first step is that I wanna show that I can be something that is not a detriment and instead something benefitial that is genuinely helpful to others.

Yeah I sincerely wouldn’t like noting people out of the nowhere for no actual reason I think it wouldn’t be respectful at all. And thank you for the pointer, though I wasn’t planning to be overzealous. I think everybody at their own pace as long they don’t ruin the fun of others. At the end of the day we’re just here to have fun. I appreciate your feedback!

I am going to be completely honest. I do not trust a person to moderate this server if they are permanently banned on another sister server.

Get that permanent ban cleared up and come back. -1 for the present time.

It seems hypocritical to me for a potential mod to note/ban people on this server with them having an active permanent ban on an officer sister server.

Hey there, @Tewi. Thank you for your application.

Aside from your history on PvE server not helping your case, the background check regarding your conduct in the communities you were part of is also leading us to deny this application.

You may reapply in 30 days, but I don’t believe our opinion will change in the near future.
