The Universal Press Conglomerate

A few notes before I begin: This is meant a background to an organization I created and regularly use when I play Free Press Responder, the Universal Press Conglomerate. Nothing in this post is set in stone, and if it seems overly general, that’s kind of the point. Also, I was debating putting this in Character Dossiers, but I decided that it was not a dossier about a character and therefore should go in this category. All that said, let’s begin.

The Universal Press Conglomerate has largely unknown origins. It’s unknown exactly when it was founded as it rarely, if ever, posts news stories directly. It is known that in recent years it has recently begun to take a more active role, especially under the direction of Neroid Sector Editor-in-Chief Alexander van Houten. The fact that the Neroid Sector specifically warrants an Editor-in-Chief implies that the Conglomerate is either a medium-sized organization with roots in other sectors, likely following a decentralized model, or is in fact just the Neroid Sector office and they simply make up the rest.

What is known far better is the nature of the content they seek to publish. Based on the actions of the aforementioned editor-in-chief, they seem to try their utmost to be a fair and unbiased publication, the usual ramifications of that likely why they seem to have a decentralized structure.

Perhaps most perplexingly, they seem to have a habit of attempting to contact any reporters nearby what they are trying to report on, and having no known reporters working directly for them, lending some degree of credence to the theory that it is in fact just Alexander van Houten trying to claim more influence than he really has. Time will likely be the only factor that will result in the truth of the matter coming to light.

In summary, the UPC is, or at least strives to be, a neutral-leaning publication with no known origins and only one known staff member, who cannot disprove that they are faking the rest of the organization.

Right, so there we go. Fairly long post that was more-or-less just me describing a faction in a way that I cannot confirm nor deny is me trying to get more combat correspondents to interact with their fax machine. I’m more than willing to take feedback on this, since I enjoy writing and want to get better at at it.
