Description of the incident:

The incident occurred soon after briefing, I was told to come along with a two SOs and CE to arrest the QM with them, as we came in the QM said they would start firing if we attempted to arrest, pulling out their pistol. I waited for any sort of de-escalation too happen and after she said to bring it on I thought she was going to make a move so decided to shoot them down in defense of said SOs, I feel that escalation was proper since I was merely acting within defense and well shot with a legitimate reason that would apply to the real world as rules specify. I do not believe a non-lethal option was possible at that moment. I wasnt told I did wrong by anyone in command and said I did proper thing if that means anything. It just feels I did not over-escalate and maybe I didnt say enough to show my reasonings is all

yeah no that is real, love to trash talk, was part of bit I was doin, didnt think I would actually shoot em, was hoping to rp a lil afterwards with situation haha, had too much fun with it I spose, also yeah the storyline was huge I was hopin to observe, I mean they were talking about gibbing and eating the XO, took chance to observe when they told me to come along, most of what I said was for goofs, but my action was for defense

Howdy TheGoat253,

Reviewing the logs it looks like the aggressive lines Mary Lamb says before you open fire on them are:

  • Use your goddamnn brain, what are you, in the army??
  • No! We’re the fucking marines.
  • Ignore your subhuman r***** CO.
  • And just let me fucking work
  • Or I’m going to start breaking faces.
  • If you’re going to arrest me anyway, I’m just going to start shooting you guys
  • I like those odds.
  • Let’s fucking go, fatboy.

While it could be argued that this was an existential threat to yourself or those around you, it was clear that they were roleplaying their aggression, and were threating those who would try to arrest them. Military police are given HvH tools to allow them to conduct arrests without resorting to lethal force. I do not believe the lines they used made them essentially a ‘valid kill’ for anyone who wanted to take up the offer of their aggression and resort to lethal violence.

I also don’t think that the statements they made would prompt a Private First Class to shoot one of their Gunnery Sergeants in the real world either.

Exceptional circumstances are truly reserved for those moments in which life and limb are under duress. The examples provided in the rules are marines fighting over a seat in the final escape pod as the hive is closing in on them, or defense against a marine trying to subdue you while you are engaged on the frontline. I don’t think that a quartermaster talking smack in requisitions meets similar levels of ‘exceptionalness.’

Ultimately, I stand behind Nessiependragon’s decision. This report is denied.
