There's nothing quite as quintessential CMSS13 as the charger cade trap, it's the oldest trick in the book

If you want to talk about classic Colonial Marines gameplay, the charger cade trap is peak SS13CM. This shit has been in the meta since chargers were first introduced.

For the new who don’t know: the charger cade trap comes in two variants. First is the premeditated lane trap, you deliberately build a cade in a corridor or area where yyou KNOW the charger has been running through the past 20 minutes. They build up speed thinking they’re about to flatten someone, then BAM, they slam face-first into your barricade and their charge breaks, and they’re in the open getting mag-dumped by your entire team.

Second variant is even more chef’s kiss, the foldable cade bait. This works anywhere that you’ve set up a defensive perimeter. You leave a foldeable cade closed, charger commits to the run at it at full speed, and right as they’re about to make contact you pop that foldable cade open. They run right into the fortification, you close the cade, and they get stuck INSIDE your defenses. At that point it’s a free kill.

I’ve seen this work for literal years across hundreds of rounds and xenos STILL fall for it. Even experienced bug mains get caught sometimes

the beauty of traps and tricks in pvp games is that they often follow a psuedo-version of the wolf-deer population trend. with chargers who dont know about the trick being the deer and the marines utilizing the trick being the wolf

at the start theres nobody who knows about the trick, so you’ll always catch them off guard. chargers start learning/teaching about the trick so then the marines slowly stop using it. by then the amount of chargers who dont know about(or forget) the trick start rising and the trend cycles yet again
