More specialist types will keep xenos on their toes.
Can you think of any cool new specialist type?
Personally I think maybe a chemical warfare specialist could be interesting. Or a mech/vehicle operator specialist (so for a specialist slot you get a mech or IFV or something.)
Bonus points if it’s not a melee spec. (I totally don’t want more spec options just so I run into scout less when backlining)
has multiple ammo types that either do scaling damage the more xenos it pierces, one that does the highest damage to the first then scales down with more xenos pierced, and then just a regular no pierce shot

Very versitale in terms of what you want to do with one. Piercing xenos and walls, maybe slowing down xenos as an alternative for SADAR spec. Unique interaction with bodypart aiming system where aiming legs slow them down, aiming arms disables abilities and aiming head deals more damage, or something.
What if we give a guy an electrified net and a double barreled shotgun?
Throw the net over the xeno to immobilize them and then just double barrel buckshot to the face.
I think that’s be pretty rad.
Otherwise I’m thinking some sort of electro-magnetic/thermal/science scanner fella where he can give x-ray vision to fellow nearby marines, highlighting where the xenos are - in essence marking them to provide information and/or a damage/accuracy buff against said xeno.
I think chemical warfare would be cool AF but I personally think it’s all specialized bullets from a modified m41a mk1 just so we can have another cool assault weapon to fawn over like the m56c
unironically look at the support weapons/strategems of helldivers 2 for ideas. Each of the specs has an equivalent support weapon, and most of them fill a unique role
I’d like to get a man portable tesla weapon with a matching backpack that slowly charges over time. Hitting a xeno with it slows them and chains to nearby targets, not great damage, but the utility would be insane.
I’ve always wanted a “Breacher” or “Shotgun” Spec. Basically using a modified shotgun of the recently removed breaching shotgun, with different shell types, it would be sick. The idea behind the spec is more so demolition, but not like the Grenadier, your primary would be a special shotgun.
A specialist whose sole purpose is to carry the USCM flag and increase morale, they get a bagpipe, harmonica, drums, a guitar, a bugle and several triangles which they use to grief the server by applying CO tier focus, hold and move buffs to every marine on screen but lacks any weapons and the clap of their ass cheeks continuously alerts xenos so they’re aware of their precise location at any given time while playing the USCM’s marching song on osu! At a 7* difficulty (robust spec players will eventually play the song perfectly), if they stop getting perfects or eat shit, the order buffs will terminate, due to their especially toned and handsome musculature from hard-carrying marines every operation, any xeno that busts from this specialist automatically evolves into the King, granting xenos a free nuke
Now that the breaching shotgun is gone for the most part, I kinda wish for a breaching spec.
They get the breaching shotgun, but buffed to shit, and can stun/kill xenos now. Oh and breaching charges. So like a full on breaching spec, sorta like the CMB riot breachers but balanced around Weapon Specialist strength.
I feel like the simplest to implement would be something like the CMB breacher, balanced around being a weapon specialist. Unsure about the shield, but a powerful shotgun and breaching charges could be fun to use while acting as a pointman.
I’d like an alternate scout spec thats more team and like… logistics focused? Fast laser designator, able to highlight enemies for marines, stronger flares, maybe a unique headset that can contact command without needing to call them via telephone, temporary beacon that can be deployed to give comms to nearby marines for a bit, stuff like that. Main downside would probably be they have something to make them a standout target for xenos…
I know we have the M2C and M56D, but a weapon spec thats an emplacement gunner would be pretty cool. I’d like to see it have some kind of stronger folding barricade that is quick to deploy, and maybe actually is a 3 tile wide barricade on deployment. Obviously limited by mobility, and probably ammo economy.
