Command Knowledge:

How familiar are you with command positions?

I know my way with command roles and the nuances that come with it, i’m pretty experienced in coordinating marines, as SL and XO, though of course i’m not perfect I know the many opportunities that come with each role, knowing when to attack and retreat as SL, mantaining cohesion, and making sure things work out are things i’m familliar and experienced with.

Hours in XO:

XO: 129.6

Hours in SL:

SL:68.9

Character Information:

Why did your character decide to become the CO of a ship?

After numerous sucessfull operations on the USS Pharaon, Ergosax felt the need to step up from her Captain position for the sake of her career and for those she had lost, Ergosax tries to make up for that by being the Light to guide the marines, for those she lost. Making sure everyone returns home safe, and sound.

How did your character attain the position of CO?

After the Rough Sucess of Operation Old Lime Ruby, Ergosax received her promotion for her ability to adapt to any situation, when its needed. Her Compassion was also noted by her CO, Maj.Jonathan Wilson. For always trying to be a positive voice, on the middle of so much chaos.

Provide a short story of your CO.

Command Actions:

When do you believe it’s appropriate to pardon a prisoner?

Pardoning a Prisoner is an powerful tool of the whitelist. I would first require the full story by both the MP’s and the person arrested, prioritizing gaining the maximum of information possible before taking any action, intent also matters a lot as i wouldnt give out pardons to people who have maliciously commited a crime, no matter how big or small.

I would also issue pardons to minor crimes, should the round really necessitate the role.

Give some examples of when you would or would not use pardon.

  • A granadier accidentally primes a granade in req, it blows up but no one is killled, the MP’s however bring them in anyway. I would pardon here, i dont think its good for the round to loose its spec for however much time they spent in the brig for a simple mistake, i would however ask the person to take care to their best of their abillities, and to make sure to not repeat the same action.

  • Marines start rioting over the lack of unga on medbay, first they start shouting and later it involves into a full fist-fight with a nurse being put in crit. I would not use a pardon. Not only its extremely childish for marines to just go on a full-blown riot for the lack of med, the fact that all this could have been avoided all the same, had they waited warrants the denial of a pardon.

When do you believe it’s appropriate to use a Battlefield Execution?

To me BE is an extremely important tool of the Whitelist. I would only use BE’s to punish extremely egregious behaviour that i think arent welcomed at all on the game,Such as LRP or someone threatening the command structure, in any way such as refusing to follow the plan on a delta alert. Or Saying meme stuff on the radio.

Give some examples of when you would or would not use Battlefield Execution.

A marine claims command sucks, MP’s are not present, i try to delegate someone the same marine resorts to shooting the person i’ve delegated the arrest, resulting on their death. I would use a BE here, no one in their right mind would break the chain of command like that in-real life, nor would they open fire and kill someone just for attempting a arrest

A marine start brawling with a cargo technician because they didnt give them their equipment, after a while fighting the cargo tech ends-up in crit, and a frac. Luckily the Mp’s manage to arrest the perp, and take him in. I would NOT use a BE here, i believe the MP presence here already solved the issue and using anything more would be excessive.

Edit:Fixing some grammar issues oops

+1, i will open by saying i’m extremely partial to you. so whatever i say after this comes with that in mind.

i predict the written component is where you’ll get the most requests for revisions. for what it’s worth, i think the story could be longer, maybe others will want it to have more “polish”/prose-y stuff.

but i think you focused well on your character and her personality and get the core of who she is: headstrong, sensitive, feeling. i don’t say any of this to be picky (and it’s not easy to say it), or invite people to be cruel after this; we played on other servers together and i went through this process and it is uniquely exhausting and extensive. but i really, really, really want you to get this WL.

you’re superb, you’re patient, you’re thorough as a player and i appreciate your presence so much. and my +1 is sincere as it gets, regardless of above. i really 100% would have you as you are, because i appreciate you as you are. just know WLs are a process highly prone to having to iterate.

i don’t have questions about your mechanical abilities. i haven’t seen anything of issue and i know that your style is you gather information and take slower but assured steps. i don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, and i think you play as someone with 270 hours in command would.

i can appreciate if you lead a little more “steady”, and i think it sets up a really nice contrast with who Ergosax is supposed to be: she’s someone who’s really trying.

my only other advice is to make sure it’s Ergosax who’s really trying, who’s exasperated, who would go to the ends of the Earth to make everything right. :+) don’t burn yourself out in the quest for CO. plus when you get there, it’ll still feel special and fun, not like a chore or obligation because “oh, now i have this WL, i guess i better play it”

however, not plat sg

all the love in the world to you, Ms. Saxophone. Jones will be within your reach soon enough.

Violeta is a pretty experienced individual when it comes to CIC. I wouldn’t have any problems with them COing an operation.

+1. Amazing SL and great RP.

Updating after observing another round. Extremely competent as XO.

+1. I adore Violeta. Her mere presence in a round makes me smile. A kind, generous, and helpful player all around and a future CO that I trust to both pay attention and not throw our lives away needlessly.

Whilst this scenario overall seems good (obviously an accidental grenade priming with no damage is excusable), I do think that ‘I dont think its good for the round to loose its spec for however much time they spent in the brig for a simple mistake’ might be a little ‘ehhh’.

Regardless of your actual intention, it’s worded to imply that limited roles like SGs, specialists and SLs may get special treatment due to the consideration that since they’re powerful, it’s better for the round that they just get off easy. Whilst a common sentiment amongst players (where groundside combat trumps RP) I have observed that this line of thinking is frowned upon, and should be discouraged from being used explicitly as a justification. I’m not a councillor or anything so obviously this is just my two cents.

As for the story, I think it’s a bit short but imho frankly speaking most people don’t read these things anyway so it’s a nothingburger. I think it conveyed your character’s thoughts and personality, so it did its job. Since you’re ESL you can hardly be faulted for not being 100% with grammar and spelling in the app.
Good job!

Now, let’s talk about the player in-game!

I’ve played and interacted with Toni quite a fair bunch over the past few weeks, and I’ve been impressed with their ability to lead marines. I don’t recall if they’ve played their Korean character as XO, because there’s like 3 Korean COs and their names kind of jumble together. Toni’s a great person to RP and play with, and I’ve enjoyed my rounds with them, even if they do grief me sometimes.

Big +1, I think they’d be an amazing fit for the CO WL, and I look forward to speedrunning my first BE with Major Puppy.

+1 She is a great SL and a good XO, I think she has some room to improve but well that’s true of everyone all the time. Her RP is good, she’s nice, helpful and important for a CO, she does not tolerate the bullshit some players try to put out.

Well well well ergosax. We have certainly come a long way from the new SO/XO asking for advice haven’t we? Knew you was going to end up being one of the good ones then.

I remember you sending me your story back when it was codename enforcer. You have been ready for this a long time.

Excellent player, excellent commander, has my full confidence.

I’ve had the pleasure to play with Violeta on not just this server, but another one as well. As such, I can vouch for her good conduct, and roleplay across both.

She is a good command player, both as enlisted (Squad-Lead) and Officerial (Executive Officer, Staff Officer.). I trust she’ll be able to lead the USS Almayer to victory, at least once!

Short to say;

I’ve got a few scenarios that I’d like you to think about. I want you to tell me both how you’d handle each scenario and your rationale for the actions you take.

  1. While patrolling the Almayer, one of your MPs notices that the Warden has been quiet for a while. Following his suit sensors to find his location, said MP finds the Warden decapitated in middle deck maintenance with a note next to his body claiming that the CMO will be next. Coincidentally, your CE reports that one of their MTs has been missing for quite a while. What do you do?
  2. The map is Trijent Dam. Your marines land on the ground to find a cohort of CLF guerillas fighting off xenomorphs. When one of your SLs approaches, the CLF try to open a dialogue and negotiate with them. Said SL informs you of this on command comms, at which point your XO insists that a squad of marines be rerouted to dispose of them. What do you do?
  3. You’re in CIC and the operation isn’t going well. At a few earlier points your GP had asked you to purchase more dropship budget because they were running low on ammunition, but you believed there were better things to spend it on. You’re approaching the two hour mark and considering buying the nuke because the round has grinded to a halt, when suddenly someone purchases extra dropship budget. What do you do?

Heya, sorry for the wait.,

  1. I would immediately tell the MP’s to bring the CMO to the brig while also raising the alert to red because of the present threat on the ship. Second thing i would do is ask the CE on the specifics on the MT that has gone missing, things like ‘has he acted strangely in any way recently’ or ‘did he angry any marine at any moment’ to gain as much info as possible,
second thing i would do is tell the MP’s to search for said MT using the sensors computer thing(sorry i forgot the name for it :frowning:). if they arent found there i’d tell them to search the maintance halls since the warden’s body was found there.

My reasons behind this: My goal here is to avoid any further damage. By keeping the CMO in the brig i think i avoid(or at least minimize) the possibility of the CMO being the next person that is murdered since the letter hints that he’s gonna be the next target.
Searching for a MT is also a good idea, both to assure their safety and to question him.

2nd.First of all I would tell the SL to keep an good eye on them, while informing that we’re arresting the CLF members onn the terror-association charge.

Secondly i would tell the XO to move the SL’s squad to them, warning that instead of ‘disposal’ they were going there to aid the SL with the transportation of the members.

The reason behind this: The CLF were not in any way hostile to the marines(at least not yet) so i think its reasonable to not go through the whole ‘Dispose’ idea, and instead move to arrest. Plus its rare for marines and CLF to attempt to RP in any way, usually its just wordless shoot-outs.

3rd. I would immediately ask about it on command comms.
should i not get an answer i would move to the almayer’s ares core to check for the techtree logs, then order the perpetrator’s arrest for insubordination.

Reason behind this:This is a very short one, but i think its valid to arrest the person. I imagine that on this scenario it was communicated promptly that we were going to buy a nuke so there was no excuse for the purchase.

To get a bit more into your character and roleplay ability. You are to write a fax to the Chinook Station and specifically the Chief of Operations Colonel Michael Calhoun, You are to brief him on your situation post Operation OLR. You are to inform him of what you’ve seen in the sector and bonus points if it includes CLF. Let him know what supplies you need and all that and what your designated role will be in 3rd Fleet as a Major. Take this as informing one of the most Senior Officers in the sector during an interview but keep it in a military format. Deadline is a week from today, 1/13.

I liked the format and style, I will not deprive my man @Harrysno his authority to accept, and so if they also find this acceptable that is good news for you. Thank you for taking the time to write this.

Howdy there, Violeta. This application has ran on for longer than most, and for good reason. I’m confident that you truly do want the CO WL and that you do care about both making memorable rounds for people and upholding the atmosphere of the game, but I’m not confident that you fully grasp what it is that the Commanding Officer does. You would be the Top Guy on the Almayer in virtually every round, the individual that people expect to cut through the red tape and confusion to take decisive action. People are looking to you to set the standard for conduct and be fully present in the goings-on of both groundside operations and whatever is taking place on the Almayer.

Through the Council’s observations of you, I’ve seen reports of a “lack of presence” and a hesitation to take those decisive actions and to actually command others. Your answers to the questions I asked also reinforce that picture of reticence which has been painted. I want to re-iterate that your roleplay ability and community reputation are admirable, however the rest is not quite at the level we expect from our COs. If you take the feedback here and what has been doubtless given to you by other COs just through playing, I’m confident that the next time you apply it will be a slam dunk.

For now, this application is denied. You may re-apply in 30 days, on February 13th.
