What are you reporting?:

Enforcement Action Taken

Description of the incident:

While I had fractured bones out on the front, marines kept pushing me around and it was getting quite annoying. I started to do (show held item - splint) to make it obvious that I was splinting myself and people started to actually walk around me instead of shoving me around. I thought it would be fine to do it a few times just to get the point across, but I went too far as I remember someone kept help intent shoving into me so I did it too many times to try and get them to stop.

That’s when segrain messaged me telling me that I should stop spamming it. I then realized that I messed up and apologized and promised not to do it again. I assumed this was just a warning, so I didn’t think much of it and stopped doing that. However a day or two later I just found out that they put a note on me so I’m trying to do something about it now. The note itself just states what rule I didn’t follow, and doesn’t take into account what actually happened down there.

Logs and note

Additionally, I was not trying to flood the chat with malicious intent. I just wanted people to stop walking into me so I could splint in peace. I feel like the note does not reflect this either.

Not necessarily has to do with this report but I know multiple people have been noted by segrain or others for the same reason (using show held item in a manner they deem excessive) so it would be nice if we could get some actual clarification on that.

Howdy Tropical_Flak,

First let’s discuss the reason why people are asked not to spam the chat. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to run our “fancy-chat” feature which converts multiple rapid inputs of the same action into one line with increasing numbers along the side to indicate it’s being input multiple times (i.e. “Biolock holds up the sledgehammer. Take a closer look. x23”). For those players who do not have “fancy-chat,” the line posts in succession, flooding their chat and making it unreadable.

Now, to discuss the noting. We have an enforcement system which (usually) follows the pattern of: Note->Warning->Escalating bans. Segrain would have actually acted outside of our established protocol by not leaving a record, since that’s how we log what kinds of staff interactions have happened in the past; we can’t track a verbal warning, so we don’t give them. I understand that it can be disheartening to receive something in writing, but it really is just there to alert staff members that you have been asked not to spam before. If you never spam again, that note is basically meaningless.

In summary, Segrain enforced a rule reasonably and did so within our policies. This staff report is denied. If a viewer of this report’s resolution thinks the rule is unjust, they may suggest policy changes in the Policy Feedback section of the forums, but the decision to enforce that rule was not, and is not, in the hands of Segrain.
