I feel like people spend so long custom tailoring their favorite loadout only to die in five minutes, myself included, that I felt the urge to try playing a “lore accurate rifleman”
sans the mk1 because i didnt feel like asking req for one, here’s what I got
medium armor (I almost always go light, I didn’t notice too much speed loss as long as I kept on top of my wounds and pain)
pulse rifle, unmodded on my back, with 3 HEDP
ammo belt with regular mags and 1 Ap for special encounters
shoulder holster with an m4a3 and again, only normal mags
MD on my armor, because motion detectors are soul
flare/FAK pouches
I’d say my biggest problem was ammo consumption as I was firing on automatic, but I just had to return to fob every now and again to resupply. I had a great time with this very basic build and I had to focus more on my tactics and positioning than “random bullshit go” so I didnt feel like I wasted my points or req’s stock.
To be honest, attachments aren’t even the most important key to win. I’d say they’re special occasions when you need to do reduce/upgrade some specific paramatere you need. (A good reference would be a SADAR who needs angled grip to start shooting immediately with his rifle once he fires his rocket)
Your best way to kill bugs is positioning and self-awareness, so no-attachment loadout isn’t even that bad imo
That would be true if some attachments weren’t almost all straight upgrades (or downgrades) and sheer quantity of them too. On top of that pretty sure that devs assume all marines have access to all attachements all the time and balance the game by that. Thus not taking all of those no penalty (or pretty low, almost meaningless penalty) means you are gimping yourself out.
A-grip isn’t a good reference, because everyone benefits from A-grip, it has a downside that only matters if you have a holster that can’t fit guns with it (which is never the case unless maybe M39) and a big upside.
Mag harness also falls into that, everyone benefits from that (unless you use your armor storage slot for something else) and that 5% accuracy debuff doesn’t do much.
All of the muzzle attachements that don’t reduce damage too.
All of the rail attachements that aren’t scopes (because those suck for some reason).
Shotgun choke is a step into right direction, or old reworks that were abandoned, we really could use a big attachement rework.
“Oh, load-out? Well, I consider myself a robusto kind o’ lad, I often use MK2 with no attachment. Heck, sometimes I used two M4RA with no attachment and go dual-wielding them like they’re a fecking revolver, with no attachment of course.
What, ya don’t believe me?! BET.”

erm, swap the pouches out for magazine pouches filled with yet more regular mags, what are you gonna live forever? what do you need meds for, you have a medic
