An ubGL that is buckshot but it pens target and travels 4 tiles total. Limited ammo to 1 per 20+ marines in each roundstart vender. Req should probably be limited to ordering satchels (no boxes) and cost double what others are equivalently.
Gives GL enjoyers a panic option that isn’t PB HEDP/WP griefing everyone around them while also keeping it rare enough that it doesn’t replace shotguns outright.
This already exists in Aliens lore - its even implemented on PvE.

Its not powercreep at all, it’d be used for the same reason it was developed IRL by the US military, so grenadiers could have a weapon to protect themselves that wasn’t just a sidearm or a grenade launcher. If someone jumps up infront of you, you either would have to grab your 1911 or revolver, or shoot them with a grenade launcher (up close, good luck), you would much rather have a giant shotgun grenade shell loaded in the tube first incase of an ambush, then switch to explosives than get ambushed and not be ready to defend yourself.
there are many ammo types that aren’t available for their balance that in lore should be there, what they are suggesting isnt op but its strong enough, any pen effect is really and the price of ammo is nothing it just means a handful of marines/ios get it before anyone else or even a squad hoards it from req because people would order it, you also have to consider its strength during hijack as well but i do get that it would be nice to have that’s just the problem, also anything in lore that says devastating close-quarters firepower is more likely to be a spec limted or a funny round a spawn event might be given idk.
I feel like locking more strong gear (literally underbarrel shotgun but better and fits in UBGL) behind “Rush req line the moment you wake up” is a bad idea.
Well it’s not a bad idea and is more balenced then it would first seem. Keep in mind that with the GL you will have the load in the shell one at a time after you have been jumped. Nads can only be used at mid range so if you pre loaded them then that make things much harder. That is unless you predict that you will be in CQC beforehand. So you either need to have great reflexs or extremly good prediction.
Concept wise it’s not bad and I think could be made in a balenced way. I would drop the target pen and just make it a larger buckshot shell. As for ammo I would add 2 in the box the GL comes from. Perhaps we could restrict it to only grenader spec. Since their a spec they can have more options for damage.
I mean, unless you need a specific kind of UBGL, then the ones we have currently store either 3 or 5 grenades. So with the MK1, you would essentially be racking up 5 super UBS instead of the usual 5 slightly weaker buckshot.
