What is the cannon proper roleplay response to pred sighting?

I mean I think that would be shoot on sight since cannon marine corp shoots first and asks questions later but what do yall think.

Edit: I am sitting next to a skinned corpse of a fellow marine and right next to it a 2 meter tall creature with a mask covered in their blood is laughing at me. I think it’s a pretty rp response to light it the fuck up.

pull your boot knife out and tell them to fight

Immediately insult them. I think you will find your round enjoyment greatly enhanced as a result

Because you won’t have to suffer through CM for the next hour or two :+1:

Largely knowledge of XX-121 does exist within at least the military from what I remember. So we know to an extent what they take in combat forms and so on just to make round to round combat easier.

Every contact with a Pred is to be treated as first contact. They are the well and true aliens to us in the lore. Everyone who just says, “there are Jamaicans” like everyone automatically knows what that means is LRP and cringe. I get the same feeling as when research asks for permission for “Greenos” like it’s so commonplace an event that Commissioned Officers have slang to refer to Artificial Warforms of an Alien Bioweapon.

This isn’t a new problem though. That’s been that way since 2020 and before.

This. I pray for the day preds are allowed to HPC marines who call them jamaicans.

To answer the main question, if you’re seeing the pred actively murder/skin/stand menacingly next to a bloodied corpse, then yeah it’s probably a reasonable IC action to start unloading, but of course it will be more RP like if you at least say something like “HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT” before you start dumping.

If you see the pred out on their own I think it’s more reasonable to try and question the massive alien from a distance with your gun trained on it.

That’s just my opinion though. The response you give will vary based on the character you’re trying to play of course.

my best advice is to not overthink it, go off of fight or flight.

there is either a towering humanoid or a distorted place of space that vaguely resembles the shape of a tall human. this is like a skinwalker scenario

do you naturally try to keep away or grit your teeth and prepare for the worst. you can attempt conversation if you want to try your luck.

you, as a marine, have no idea what the hell is going on- and neither does your command. your main objective should be to survive.

It is, it’s one of the responses that you’re /meant/ to have and I’m glad you think so. A lot of people just watch preds kill their comrades, skin them, hang them upside down, despine them for a trophy and they just /watch/ because of “If I don’t attack, he won’t attack” mentality that was spread in early 2024.

As others stated in this thread, it is up to you to decide your fate. You could worry about survival

OR

Revenge, that abomination inbred motherfucker just killed your friends. Make them pay.

maybe, probably not

I have two ways of responding:

Either I am

A. Already in combat with XX-121 so I just blast at it assuming its some kind of associated creature, especially considering its just a dot in the darkness 90% of the time.

or

B. I freak the fuck out and start fear RPing the shit out of it. “OH GOD, WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!”.

I prefer the RP route, but if I’m actively in combat sometimes its just not really a super valid option.

My common response to Jamaicans is either *stare or *thumbsup. They get confused and it gives me enough time to run away, which is fun when it works

Alternatively, you can also say: “Wazzup, fellow Jamaican!” and throw him a joint. You know what’s gonna happen next, though

I kill them once I hear them say something racist. I am pro equal opportunity (to be smited by American Lead and also maybe cause some FF in the process) for all alien species.

Don’t say anything right away. When you see a predator you have to shoot at them. Once they cloak that’s when you hit your squad with a, “don’t relax just yet Marines.”

pull out your trusty flamer and lit them up like a Christmas tree, once they are charging at you angrily on fire, you will pull out your MK1 preloaded with an AP magazine and shoot until it looks like a damn strainer, it will try to get away to roll it’s flames away, that’s why you are also carrying an heavy sniper rifle to scope and snipe their ass, once it is struggling to fight and reaches for their funny alien tech on their arm, you will bear hug them and go in for a suplex to shatter their spine

TL;Dr its a 2 meter humanoid that is clearly not human covered in human and xeno blood, damn right I’m going to shoot it

Its a two meter tall alien – while humanity has encountered aliens before (for humaniods, see: Archurians) thats covered in a mix of human and xenomorph blood.

While RPing with the giant alien is good and all (my usual response) hitting it with the Dutch quote and then opening fire is probably the most HRP thing you can do. You’re a rank-and-file Marine, think with your gun and load AP:)

Maybe try and contact the Staff Officer assigned to your squad to see what you’re up against and then ask if you can fire, but thats optional.

Light up predators on sight the moment you see them do anything hostile to colonists or marines

you’re part of a penal battalion and kill xenos on sight for harming your comrades, preds are no different

tfw you’re trying to collect all 8 trillion collectibles and the NPC hits you with ‘Don’t relax just yet marines!’ for the 9th time

Nah, when it cloaks, thats when you hit it with the “Must’ve been the wind” and wander off non-chalantly.

Lock & load

My most recent encounter with a pred was initially that of a fear RP as SG, it standing over the corpse of a revivable Marine it recently killed. I wanted to run away, but it was RPing putting a blade over its skin.

Conflicted between fear RP, and wanting to save this random Marine that I don’t have any relationship with, I tried pleading with it to give me the body, begging even. Was met with laughter and it began the process of skinning/skull taking.

So I was forced to engage it, winning the fight and killing it saving the Marine in the process.

Fear RP is gold.
You are a heavily armed marine, shoot on sight is valid.
Watching a random one on one with a pred and a marine makes little sense (from a personal POV).
