Me as a relatively new cm gamer (i starter playing in 2021) want to ask the elder ones about when cm was in its prime and if he got worse,when and why? What fatal change made that server worse? Or maybe its good as it is now? I dunno so tell me your opinions because im curious.

Probably today is the best cm has ever been, but if you consider pop count I would say 2020-2021, start of MOBA, when tank was a thing, we used to have constant 200 player pop, low pop was around 80-120 players. I would say that was the most fun I had with CM.

CM has generally gotten better over the years, so yeah imo the best era of CM is right now.
Anyone looking at the past with nostalgia needs only participate in a legacy rollback event where theyāll realise how dogshit past CM was compared to modern CM, simply because the few gameplay mechanics that were ābetterā get overshadowed by the hundreds of mechanics that are strictly worse.

I think I felt the most positive about CM during the Morrow and early Drathek eras. Right now itās dark times, akin to techwebs.

Hey man. I know this is a bit out of topic but can you tell me a bit what was up with all that techwed stuff? Because when whenever someone metions techwed its always in context of how bad it was and how it nearly sended cm in some sort of dark ages. And if it was as bad as people talks about then why it was present in game for so long?
Isnt techwed was a kind of rts skill tree for both fractions?

Yeah it was tech trees for both sides, with a lot of really weird decisions. First of all, it was never finished, there should be an objective-based system, but instead it was just getting point over time. Secondly, it was poorly balanced, some choices were just better than the others. Also, there was a lot of simple powercreep. There were implants that gave you full nvg, there were stims, there were (for a while) wall-piercing bullets, and so on and so on. It pushed CM in a wrong direction, but thankfully we moved back.
Why it was in the game for so long? Because of arrogance, stubbornness, inertia, antagonism (in both ways), etc. This is how it usually happens. People in power thought they were doing the right thing.

Comms garble will become a non issue in the future since I assume someone will improve on it, but yeah I actually did forget about multi Z. After playing it extensively, it just feels kind of frustrating? Itās clunky, extremely unintuitive and those are things that I donāt think can be fixed whatsoever simply because wellā¦ the game is top down and in real timeā¦
I can definitively say that I enjoy non-multi Z CM maps significantly more than multi Z CM maps now. On some maps itās okay, on others like White Antre where you basically need to keep spamming the look up button itās justā¦ ehhh. Personally, it just doesnāt feel good.
I still think the other new features will outweigh the negatives of multi Z though, so Iām not too fussed. We ditched techwebs after investing a crap ton of time into it because it just didnāt work right, so if multi Z still doesnāt feel good to most people after it truly gets finished , I doubt itāll stay. I donāt think anything is set in stone, the future is malleable and I still think CM will get better on average.

If you can search on discord my name, there are quite few mp4s out of techweb era, one has me as XO rushing Queen with all 3 implants, getting set on fire, and tanking like 8 slashes, getting ahealed from the implant, then proceeding to sit in boiler gas and comming out alive.

MAN, I miss the old CM, the straight shitty lighting CM, the crappy admins CM, the hidden code CM, I hate the new CM, the OP stimās CM, constant PRās CM,
I miss the toxic dchat CM, stronger xenos from age CM, I gotta say at this time I wish I could play that CM.
See, I invented CM, there wasnāt any CM, and now I look and look around and thereās so many CMās.
I used to love CM, I used to love CM, I even posted on the old forums, I thought I was CM.
What if I made a post malding about new CM, called it āI miss the old CMā, man thatād be so CM!
Thatās all it was, CM, we still love CM, and I love you like CM loves CM.
