Hello, im just wondering since im not really sure when i should use what guns or what thier roles are, like for example when should i use the RA or the M39? When i feel like i may aswell just use the mk2. Also req guns, like the MOU and mk 1, when should i use them?
M41A is your standard rifle. Very good damage and a lot of customizability. You can use it any way you want although it excels at mid range and somewhat close range ( meaning 3-7 tiles distance). All that matters is to hit your shots. Shotgun, well depends on your ammo. Buckshot for close and personal, slugs for anything that can be stunned and flachetes for armored targets usually. M39 can either be used to scare off the enemy or to melt T1s-T2s from some 2 to 3 tiles. It has high fire rate but poor accuracy so you need to find the safest distance to shoot from to not get mauled. You also need to be fast with it or you’ll get caught and die. M4RA is usually a frontline gun if you get agrip and smartscope since it has no wield slowdown and good damage. You’ll need to hit your shots though. MOU is a meme gun that experienced players use to stunlock T2s with slugs and then flame them. I don’t recommend. As for MK1 it’s MK2 with a lot more ammo, worse accuracy and 5 slot GL. You can use it in just about any situation.
use whatever you feel like whenever you feel like it =)
shotgun only shotgun plab pb keep point-blanking buckshot bucksshot buckshot pb pb pb plab keep chunging shotgun m37a2 whispers in my ear kill everyone
You should take the XM51 on any map that has a decent amount of colony walls (and any other map really because of xeno doors) and feel like a superhero controlling the direction and speed of the marine push.
can’t shoot anything but walls with it though
a big part of da fun of this game (especially learning it) is finding these out on your own or through discussion.
if u got any specific situations in mind just ask away what gun would be good there in cm-discussion or last-round-chat on discord. You’ll get some decent responses probly, and get involved in discussion pretty fast.
mou is a very viable and powerful weapon once u get really good with it. Calling it a meme gun is just absolutely incorrect.
Useful for both, but not super indepth. It’s a great chasing gun, great brawling gun, and decent pressure gun. It’s vulnerable to abilities due to its low range. It’s not just great against t1-t2 either, its great against t3s too esp. with ap.
M39 is all about the fact it deals massive dps compared to other options - it’s just that it leaves you more vulnerable and limits positions when fighting - which isn’t bad perse, since most kills start in close range and end in close range, even for a rifle like the mk2.
ofc. theres other factors too but am too tired to write it all. m39 is a good but situational gun.
m4ra is used a lot in backline too. its got value in the sense that movement speed + range means easier to brawl, dodge, and shoot. Its best defensively, since forcing your enemy to move offensively creates opportunity shots which are good for guaranteeing dps. It’s also very useable in close spaces, since enemies have a harder time avoiding shots - and in open spaces, it’s also useful, but harder to use then mk2 outside of semi-close range.
Its got instant wield delay, and is a bread and butter combo with flamer for backlining. mk2 AG RS is also, bread and butter with flamer in backline though.
A great part about the m4ra is its chase potential - just like m39, running and shooting makes it a lot easier to follow an escapee.
Overall theres a lot more depth to these weapons then just the baseline - and thats what makes this game so great. it has an incredible amount of content to explore and master.
By saying meme gun I don’t mean it’s stupid, it is in fact quite funny watching a spitter get slammed into the wall repeatedly with slugs only to be torched by a flamer and die. By meme I mean funny cause every time I watched it used right the result was almost comical.
Since standard issue guns have been covered, might as well talk about restricted req stuff:
- MOU: can be used with flechettes to chomp big pieces of xeno HP in 0.1 seconds, or with slugs to stunlock them
- M79: can shoot nades over people’s heads. I don’t use nades, I have no idea how this gun works
- M2C: in theory this HMG should punish overextended xenos by deploying in their face and giving a short burst. In practice it’s so inaccurate it doesn’t worth it
- M56D: 700 shitfart IFF rounds per drum, used for suppressive fire
- M41AE2 aka HPR: LMG, it’s best application is sneaky attacks on unsuspecting xenos. It’s sprite is not very noticeable, and anything with less than 25 armor will be melted by 10 rounds per second. Can act as a suppression weapon as well. Use with bipod
- M240: everyone knows a flamer. Combo weapon, the killer of crushers and cucker of preds. Good at roasting xenos and marines alike. This weapon is worth a guide of it’s own, but I’m not good enough with it to make one
- MK1: straight upgrade to mk2 due to it’s high ammo capacity, which leads to better inventory management. Just don’t ask for 2-3 AP mags to it
- XM88: an older brother of M4RA. I saw people owning preds with this rifle (and killed one myself), but it’s not that good against xenos, who always run away after taking 1-2 shots (100 damage per hit and juicy sound effects don’t let aliens lose their guard, and suppressor doesn’t help here)
- XM51: good gun that nobody uses because it doesn’t kill things. Deletes thick resin as fast as hivelords build it, excels in annoying warriors, boilers and hivelords by deleting their cover
M41 - Basically does anything you want. It’s very adaptable and reliable. If you have no gun and just pick up a basic M41 off the ground you are OK.
Usage: Basically everything
M4RA - IFF support with B8 scope for fighting in tightly packed groups. Chasing/mid-range brawling since it has no wielded slowdown. Ironically, not good as a sniper/DMR. Basically an M41 that requires better aim and is less adaptable for niche uses.
Usage: Fire Support, chasing, brawling
M37 - Mostly useful because of the stuns with buckshot and slugs. Buckshot is high damage, especially on PB’s, but it’s skill intensive to do well with it. Usually people use this as their sidearm because of how useful the stun + damage is while using an M41 as primary.
Usage: Stun support, brawling, finisher
M39 - Basically an M41 that’s only good when you’re hugging a xeno and using the right attachments. It’s hard to use well, but when it’s used right it’s deadlier than an M41 is. Use it for suicidal chasing and when you don’t want to play longer than 15 minutes.
Usage: Brawling, chasing, dying quickly
M240 Flamethrower - Mostly area denial and psychological weapon. If you hit a xeno with the flame spray it deals decent damage, but if they just walk into the fire on the ground, damage is terrible. Most xeno players are scared of fire. Good xeno players don’t care about being set on fire (unless pyro blue flame), and will set themselves on fire if it means landing a lunge/etc. In practice - set xeno on fire, chase with other weapon out, kill them when they stun themselves and roll on the ground to extinguish the fire.
Usage: Area denial, chasing
M5 Bayonet - Not good as a weapon, but mandatory for basic first aid digging out shrapnel, which if you don’t do this the shrapnel gives you IB, breaks bones, and kills you. It used to also explode your limbs off. Shrapnel is absurd how deadly it is, so a knife is still mandatory in every loadout. Luckily it fits in your boot.
Usage: First aid, throwing at fences to get through fast
Mod88 - If you mixed an M41 with an M39 and made it a pistol it’s basically this. It has AP by default which is uniquely useful to get big aliens to back off. High magazine capacity means you can actually afford to miss with it. Decent accuracy/drop-off so it can be used to complement chasing (e.g. with flamer). Hot swapping to a pistol in a fight is faster than reloading your primary.
Usage: Chasing, panicking, self defense
There’s a lot of other pistols, only a few are arguable sidegrades to the Mod88 (for specific niches). The rest SUCK. Just stick with Mod88 honestly.
Heavy Pulse Rifle - Just an LMG M41. Good when the bipod is deployed, not good otherwise. Best used from cover. Pair with a motion detector, not so you can shoot off screen but to know what direction to face and set up in pre-emptively. Use portable cades to set up better. Instant deploys on most objects like cades, machinery, or windows. Does not have IFF. The holotarget rounds are basically worthless. (You do 25% less damage, so that someone else can do up to 10% more, but only after you hit the xeno at least 10 times - and it’s already run back around a corner.)
Usage: Suppression, covering fire
M41 MK1 - M41 sidegrade: 5 round grenade tube instead of 3; 90 round magazine instead of 40-60. The main advantage is the 90 round magazine - very often you’ll need to reload with a mk2 during a fight. The Mk1 doesn’t have that problem.
Usage: Chasing, fight sustain, ghetto noobtube
XM88 - More of a DMR than the M4RA is. Hard to use well; you never get a clear line of fire with it. Grab NVG’s (FTL/SL) and try to last-hit snipe. Can also be ok brawling/chasing with no wielded slowdown, but requires incredibly good aim to do well.
Usage: Last hit sniping, brawling, chasing
Special line for special guns
M56D - Used to be good, it’s not anymore. I wouldn’t even bother. Just use your M41 you’ll do more work with it from a cadeline than a 56D will. We used to set up firebases with these things but that got nerfed into the ground and then they got a DPS nerf on top to seal the damage done and ensure nobody uses it anymore.
Usage: Gently caressing xenos with nerf darts from an immobile position
M2C Heavy Machinegun - Derpiest most gamey weapon in the marine arsenal imo. It is counterintuitively only good under ~5 tiles range (not even all the way across the screen). Should not be used as a ranged weapon. Deploys almost instantly and deals pretty good damage up close but the huge dropoff and short firing time means it works absolutely nothing like you’d expect from a “heavy machinegun” and is more like a really weirdly designed shotgun (yeah I think that’s DUMB). Very easy to friendly fire and kill marines with this. I hate everything about it. If you want a REAL machinegun, use the HPR with bipod.
Usage: Suicidally gattblasting queen point blank from 80% hp to dead in 3 seconds, Friendly firing marines in the back when they heroically save the queen from being gattblasted by stepping in front of you, shooting a weak killable drone at 7 tiles but the dropoff makes it feel like a gentle caress instead
REQ weapon kits are generally not an upgrade, they are gimick guns.
Even if newer players like to belive otherwise.
- XM88 is shit at first, but rewards you heavily for repeat hits on the same target in quick succesion.
- M56D is for fire support. A LMG with IFF is incredibly powerfull.
- M2C is for high power burst you have to commit to.
- Flamer is for area controll
- M79 is a support tool, able to provide Utility support and dmg support.
The only REQ gun that isnt a quirky gun, is the MK1. But thats because its mostly just a MK2 with a dummy thick mag. (The size is insane, you can only have about 4 and be fine for the round.)
The only other things it changes are burst ammount, and scatter. Well and less attachments but they dont make a gun so eh.
Generally take the M41A If you want to perform well regardless of your skill. As long as you can fire it, you will have an impact.
The M37A2 and M4RA also work well, but require a bit more skill to perform well.
M37A2 for shorter range, and M4RA for longer range.
M39 is itself a bit meh. Generally its one of the best guns in CQC, but suffers from being a side arm, and all the drawbacks that brings. (Means overall not that much dmg in most situations.)
Other then that, thats it really.
Of course there are hyper specific builds that need you to use very specific attachments. But that isnt really important unless your trying to sweat to the lv of writing weapon guides.
For the general player a draw speed change will never be even noticable.
mod88 is the best sidearm all others are shit

I will answer on behalf of @Lmwevil. It is the flare gun.
