This isn’t based on viability and such. Each spec can carry with the right player. This is on which is most fun to play.
Personally? Grenadier.
Super deadly to anything that doesn’t have grenade stun immunity (crusher/queen/king/hedgehog/oppressor have this immunity). Any xeno not immune to grenade stuns just dies if a GL spec who knows what they are doing spots them. Good luck trying to escape.
But GL spec is prone to ffing marines as well, so keep that in mind.
GL spec is the most fun for me, simply because you can get a lot of grenades and shooting them is always fun. GL armor is nice as well, I like the tanky armor (though it does slow you down quite a bit). GL spec even gets unique gloves that protect the hands, and a helmet that can protect against some hugger blows (though useless if you’re deep in capped).
Scout is rather fun as you don’t have to just stick to the main mass and unga like the rest of the specs.
As for the pyro… what can i say my AIM IS DOG SHIT… so just being able to pour out mass amounts of green fire that doesn’t really need good aim is great for me.
Why scout? Well you can be the bane of backliners making sure medics can easily transport dead guys to the fob or for new marines to be safe so they could get to the front without dying.
SHARP? Well T3 stun is really op when combined with SGs or sadar to back up your shots
I like playing scout a lot,
The rifle is incredibly funny for melee - it has the most damage of any melee weapon in the game with a bayonet, you can do it while cloaked, and ESPECIALLY when you get a riot shield on certain maps it’s hilarious. I like playing a melee scout a lot, after a while the same old ‘inc/impact, kill lurker’ combo becomes unfun unless it’s like, a notorious LRC coper.
Pyro is also really fun. Like, genuinely, I feel like I control the entire flow of the battle for both the xenos and marines - and I like that feeling. It’s part of why I play CO a lot too
SADAR if im feeling brave (and a last resort)
Scout for fun (first choice
Sniper if I wanna be alive and on the front
GL to blow up mar- xenos.
SHARP if I wanna use my brain.
SADAR and Pyro always. These two spec roles for me are the most exhilarating and fun, you only get one spec roll a week ish (or more if you’re lucky) and I dont want to “waste” it on a point and click adventure.
There’s something geniuenly interesting about not having IFF and having to position yourself directly infront of the xenomorphs constantly to score kills thats so epic.
If im planning on playing with some pals i’ll play sniper and give them spotter kit to larp.
Pyro because of the complexity of the role. The flame thrower is not only fun to fire but also has so many uses. As pyro i use my fire as extra cades often cutting off flank routes on the main push.
It has gotten so good that xenos will stand on the other side of my flames pointing at me. I am able to go the entire round without dying sometimes and others time i don’t get hurt at all.
I don’t even use a rifle cause there is always a flank to cover in fire or a burning cade wall to make. I carry as much fuel as possible. Nothing is more disspointing then seeing a pyro using a rifle.
SADAR is still the strongest weapon you can use as marine, and Scout lets you go full protag mode and gives the hive a massive headache.
GL is mainly buns and I will NOT be ragebaited into believing otherwise (unless you have a healthy stash of OT nades). You run out of your supply of nades so fast and unless req feels generous you’re not going to get any more. Also against most T3s you’re just suffering, any xeno who gets stunned by a HEDP will just fuck off.
Not saying GL is complete dogshit, but it’s pretty weak IMO.
Pyro seems fun but I haven’t played it that much, and I’m probably playing it wrong. I’m always hesitant to flame because I don’t want to be that guy who stalls the push.
Haven’t tried SHARP at all but I’ve heard mixed reviews
Sniper’s not exactly “fun” to me but I enjoy it the most (it’s also the only spec I actually play). But if I’m just out there to have a goofy time, GL is the way.
SADAR I don’t enjoy much, plus the added amount of downtime waiting to get good shots.
Pyro is boring. Useful and you can instantly see your effect in a round, but so, so boring.
EDIT: I enjoy scout so little that I didn’t even remember to include it
The trick is to flame the side pushs that might only have a few people on them. Also for main pushs flame to the side of the marines. Agian think of flames as cades and use them as such.
Also just use blue flame instead of orange flame as you can get so much you never need the regular stuff.
See what most people don’t understand is pyro is not about getting kill it’s about helping your team. If you want to frag go play sniper but if you want to make a warrior wish he never logged in then play pyro. Not to mention green flame on a queen can prevent her from scream capping. It also prevent her fellow xenos from rushing in.
With good aim you can even do this with orange flame thats why i also take the flamethrower as SL. As SL i once held off half the hive for 20 minutes with only 2 engis and only 2 cades max.
That is why i love pyro. If you play engi or medic you understand this mindset.
GL you just shoot from LZ until you reach hive and when round over you get to see the salt of all the drones hivelords and Queen building in OOC. Your basically the ultimate assault spec just got to shoot when necessary if you shoot too much you run out of hedp and if you shoot too little your going to evac. If you shoot just right you can stun xenos (as well as knock them towards you from nade explosions) for marines to finish off. You also get a cool armour that allows you to ignore noob runners and lurkers that try to cap you on the front. If you get capped there is a small chance the xeno is bald and you’ve just hit the lottery where you HEDP the entire hive
