Is this against the rules? There is nothing written down that says you cannot do this.
Rule 3 common sense? Then why are multiple people split between yes and no? Horrible take.
Unwritten rules are terrible and I’ve seen this happen multiple times over the years in regards to xeno building. People don’t know what is allowed and what isn’t. How much sticky is too much sticky? How many walls are too many walls? Is it just entirely up to the opinion of staff in the current round? Is it really that difficult to have clear defined guidelines as to how and what xenos can build in the official rule set to avoid confusion?
I don’t like seeing people get punished for something they had no idea about when they had no intention of trying to break rules, grief or even just trying to follow orders. Just something I’ve noticed pop up occasionally that can be easily fixed.
I was under the impression that the only xeno building rule is no walling off corpses, no walling off entire chunks of the map. There was never a clarification on how many walls was too much, but generally it doesn’t matter- If someone has walled off 20% of the caves on LV, then that guy knew that shit was non-kosher. Not a single person would go “Yeah, I don’t think me walling off 20% of the caves is going to get me bwoinked, or get removed via. HE OB”.
I’ve seen full-sticky hives quite commonly, and I was never under the impression it was unlawful to do so. Did someone actually get punished for sticky spam? If so then yeah, it’d be epic if the rules became more concrete.
Regarding common sense- I think this is just iffy, because CM is filled with the worst incompetence imaginable. I can’t play one round without seeing engineers make the most dogshit griefer cades known to man, or some cursed hive where XX-Drone thought 1-tile wide mazes was an incredible idea. I don’t think incompetence on it’s own should ever be punished.
If a hivelord wants to spend 20+ minutes making the hive hell to push with sticky it’s fine as far as I know. It’s not like bravo has any restrictions on how many cades they can place for the FOB.
Well according to some it’s not fine, including mentors/staff. We have members of the community with years played who are on both sides saying yes and no.
Hence the whole point of this thread, if even one person is confused it should be enough to define things and ensure confusion is eliminated, let alone when multiple people are confused.
Well, there is the physical restriction of how much metal one can feasibly gather for the FOB lol.
But yeah, I agree. It’s a good thing that we are quite lax rule-wise when it comes to construction. Adding so many rules to the task is just going to punish newer players who couldn’t know any better, and for not much benefit besides bwoinking that occasional “griefer” who is really just wasting their own time.
By the pure and written content of our rules page, the only restrictions on xenomorph construction are in the case of metagaming, with an explicit example of walling off a marine or xenomorph corpse to prevent their recovery.
Insofar as the rules are then concerned, if you wish to spend your entire round spamming sticky resin, that is your prerogative.
The only point I’d consider something excessive is if someone was just filling in the entire map with walls to block off entire areas of the map. You still need to be able to let marines and xenos traverse an area, the same as how a tower-defence game still needs you to leave an entrance for the enemy to enter into.
However, this is my opinion, not a management ruling.
I got noted for making 5x5 wall in caves as queen (to avoid marines rushing in through a hallway i didnt want them to push), as far as i am aware its up to the staff member if they feel like noting you for “excesive” building (i did it multiple times before i got noted).
I’ll bring this up for a staff discussion. Ideally, this would be best fixed through code, but we don’t live in an ideal world. I’ll get back to y’all.
There are currently no xenomorph building rules that dictate when and where xenomorphs can and cannot build, and thus there are no rules to be enforced on this front. This has not been a paradigm shared amongst the staff team, however, this is now the standard for this rule. Some of us anticipate needing to change this in the future, but we are satisfied to see exactly how the player-base responds in-game to this absence of rule/ mechanical block.
If you have received a note or sanction for ‘spamming’ resin structures, please feel free to reach out to me for a review.
Addendum: There exists an exception in this ruling insofar as objectives are concerned. The maintainer team does not want objectives being excessively walled-off (comms and sensor towers) in the same way it is permissible to wall off other sectors of the map. I will need to explore a way to express that perspective in the rules going forward.
